CHAPTER 269: CHAPTER 213: NEW DISCOVERIES_2

Beibei nodded obediently, "Mom, I’ll be good!"

Yin Qi fought back the tears in her eyes and turned to head upstairs. If she truly couldn’t accept it, she didn’t want this family to be destroyed...

But some things always seem to follow a pattern; once the beginning is set, everything unusual seems to rush out all at once.

Under normal circumstances, Yin Qi wouldn’t pay too much attention to these things. But now, as she pushed open the study door, Han Mingzhe, who was on the phone, paused briefly, muttering only, "Wait for me to handle it," before hastily hanging up.

Who was on the other end of the call? Could it be a woman? Yin Qi couldn’t help but wonder.

Seeing her complex expression, Han Mingzhe quickly stood up to reassure her, "Honey, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Yin Qi shook her head and, with his help, sat down on the sofa. Casually, she looked at Han Mingzhe and asked, "Who was on the phone just now?"

"Assistant Huang! There’s something going on at the company she couldn’t decide on herself. Your face looks so pale—what’s really wrong?" Han Mingzhe offered an offhand explanation, then began to calmly and gently inquire about her well-being.

In the past, Yin Qi would have been moved by this. But in this moment, she didn’t know why—she just couldn’t shake the feeling that Han Mingzhe’s smile seemed utterly forced, so fake and insincere.

"It’s nothing! I’m just feeling a little tired, that’s all. Oh, by the way, who did you play golf with yesterday? Was the other party better than you?"

Yin Qi asked the question while closely watching his expression, her heart in turmoil.

Han Mingzhe’s gaze flickered, his eyes lowering slightly to hide his reaction, before responding with overly confident assurance, "It was Chairman Wang from Xin Heng. You know very well that my golfing skills aren’t something the average person can outmatch!"

Yin Qi smiled gently, as if satisfied with his answer. She lightly pushed his shoulder and said, "Honey, I’m feeling a little thirsty. Could you ask Mrs. Jiang to bring me a cup of warm water?"

"Why don’t you head back to the bedroom for a rest? I’ll bring up the water for you myself." Han Mingzhe said, then grabbed his phone from the desk, turned, and left the study to go downstairs.

Yin Qi stared absentmindedly at his retreating figure. He never let his phone leave his side, and it was always locked with a password. Maybe this was proof the problem had existed for a long time.

She picked up her own phone and dialed Assistant Huang. "Xiao Huang, your President Han asked me to inform you that Chairman Wang’s schedule with Xin Heng can only be postponed to the day after tomorrow."

The assistant seemed stunned, pausing briefly before responding, "Ma’am, did you make a mistake? President Han scheduled the meeting with Chairman Wang for next Thursday!"

"Oh, is that so? Then I must have been mistaken. So sorry about that—just keep things as they are!"

After hanging up the phone, Yin Qi’s face grew even paler. Her steps were unsteady as she walked back to her bedroom, where she sank onto the large bed and stared vacantly at their sweetly smiling wedding photo.

A while later, Han Mingzhe returned to the bedroom with a glass of water. Noticing her odd mood, a flash of impatience crossed his eyes, but it quickly softened into warmth as he spoke, "Honey, here—drink this and then get some good rest!"

Yin Qi fixed him with a piercing gaze. As he was on the verge of losing composure, she suddenly spoke. "Honey, do you love me?"

"Of course! Why would you ask such a silly question?" Han Mingzhe sat down beside her and pulled her into his arms.

Yin Qi murmured softly, "That question is silly, isn’t it? Does that mean I’m foolish too? What did you really do yesterday? I already know—you obviously scheduled with Chairman Wang for next Thursday. Why would you lie to me?"

Han Mingzhe turned her shoulders to face him, earnestly explaining, "Honey, I didn’t mean to deceive you! Da Ming and the guys just wanted to have a guys-only gathering—no wives allowed. And coincidentally, it happened to clash with the kid’s holiday. Honestly, I wasn’t even all that willing!"

"But you know Da Ming—it’s not easy for him to come back, and he’s about to leave again soon. That’s the only reason I didn’t tell you. If you don’t believe me, you can call each of them right now, one by one, and you’ll see for yourself that I’m telling the truth!"

Yin Qi froze. If that was the case, his explanation did make sense. Da Ming was indeed going abroad in a few days. Reflecting on how she had allowed others’ words to make her doubt him, she couldn’t help but feel guilty.

"Honey, I’m sorry! I was just..."

Han Mingzhe gently pressed his hand over her mouth, stopping her from finishing her sentence. He gazed at her lovingly and said, "Honey, don’t say sorry to me. I know it’s because you love me and care about me that you’re feeling this way—restless and uneasy. I understand."

Yin Qi was moved to tears, and Han Mingzhe pulled her down with him. "Honey, I’ve missed you so much! Come here!" he murmured before pressing a fierce kiss to her lips...

Afterward, Yin Qi, completely exhausted, drifted into sleep.
