CHAPTER 39: CHAPTER 039 EMBEZZLEMENT OF PUBLIC FUNDS

Lucas Payten wished he could find a hole to crawl into!

He had initially chosen Eva for her background and gave up pursuing Sophie Wilson. Who would’ve thought...he was giving up a watermelon for a sesame seed.

He regretted it deeply, and couldn’t care less about Eva, the main culprit!

If it weren’t for Eva using her identity to lure him back then, how could he have given up on Sophie Wilson?

"What can I do?" Lucas Payten changed his expression swiftly, freeing himself from Eva’s grasp, "Hurry up and pack your things and leave."

With that said, Lucas Payten ran back to his office as if something unclean were chasing him from behind.

Now, he could only pray Sophie Wilson wouldn’t take it out on him. As for Eva... it would be good enough if he didn’t deal with her, let alone help her.

The commotion in the company didn’t affect Sophie Wilson in the office. She informed Edward Palmer of the cooperation intentions she had discussed with President Payten, "Now we’re just waiting to finalize the contract and sign it."

Edward Palmer looked at Sophie Wilson in shock; this was a huge deal.

The renovation of the entire community!

How much would the company earn from this deal?

It would almost double the annual business volume.

"Good, good!" Edward Palmer exclaimed excitedly, "Sophie, you’re amazing."

Sophie Wilson smiled and said, "Our branch can’t be outdone by other branches."

"Absolutely, absolutely!" Edward Palmer nodded repeatedly. When the headquarters meeting came, he’d be in the spotlight.

"President Palmer, I suggest you check the financial accounts," Sophie Wilson suddenly proposed, catching Edward Palmer off guard. He quickly said, "Sophie, I never meddle in the company’s accounts."

Sophie Wilson’s status was clear, and Edward Palmer was afraid she might think he was embezzling.

"Of course, I wasn’t referring to you, President Palmer, but..." Sophie Wilson smiled and prompted, "Don’t you think Eva’s expenses... don’t quite match her income?"

"Of course, if the money comes from Eva’s family, then President Palmer, just consider me overthinking."

It was better that Sophie Wilson hadn’t mentioned it, but as she did, Edward Palmer’s face turned dark.

How could he, as her uncle, not know Eva’s family’s financial situation?

"Sophie, wait here for a moment." Edward Palmer left Sophie Wilson as a witness and immediately called the finance office to have the accounts checked.

Soon, the finance manager rushed over with an unpleasant expression, "President Palmer, there’s fifty thousand missing."

Edward Palmer’s face was as black as coal, but the finance manager couldn’t help but continue, "These were all handled by Eva."

Edward Palmer was now so angry he could tear Eva apart. He had allowed her to work at the company as a favor.

And this is how she repaid him?

Skimming money in the branch under his management, to those who knew it was Eva’s doing, but to those who didn’t, it would seem like he had instructed Eva to do so.

"I believe this has nothing to do with President Palmer," Sophie Wilson said with a smile, knowing Edward Palmer was an upright person.
