Rebirth: Divorcing the Billionaire
Chapter 186 - 184: Let Him Escape Disaster
CHAPTER 186: CHAPTER 184: LET HIM ESCAPE DISASTER
"If I’m not playing games, am I supposed to play with *you*? Talk about an attention seeker! Seeing you jump around frantically like a monkey, anyone who didn’t know would think *your* husband was lying in there," Jian Xi sneered.
When it came to verbal sparring, Jiang Qimeng was no match for Jian Xi, not even if she got on her knees and licked her boots.
Red with anger, her cheeks puffed out like a pufferfish, Jiang Qimeng turned to Si Yuhuan with a whine. "Look at her! What is she saying? What kind of attitude is that?"
"Enough. What’s all this noise about?" Si Yuhuan said as he pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag, his expression distant and cold.
His attitude irked Jiang Qimeng even more. Unable to lash out, she could only huff and move to the side.
She sneakily took out her phone and sent a message to someone.
[What the hell are you scheming? I’m telling you, some of the world’s top doctors are here. If this move with Si Junyan fails, we’re all done for.]
Jiang Qimeng was like an ant on a hot griddle, feigning calm but terrified.
The reply was just two words: [Wait.]
[Wait for what?]
Just as she sent the message, the door suddenly swung open.
She immediately pressed the delete key.
Quickly regaining her composure, she ran over. "How is he? Is Junyan okay?"
Jian Sirun removed his mask and flicked his wrist, his expression full of disgust. "He won’t die."
"What do you mean he won’t die?" Jiang Qimeng scoffed, pointing at him. "If you don’t know how to treat patients, then don’t say such discouraging things! How is he really?"
SLAP—
Jian Xi’s slap echoed across the room.
All was silent.
Jiang Qimeng cupped her face. She’d lost count of how many times Jian Xi had slapped her.
"Jian Xi..." she uttered through clenched teeth.
Jian Xi pointed at her, her aura intimidating. "You better watch your mouth! Fourth Brother is here because I called him. I can ignore your insults to me, but if you dare say one more disrespectful word to him, try me and see if I don’t tear your mouth apart!"
She was domineering, like a rabbit about to go berserk and bite, her eyes red and practically shooting fire.
Without Si Yuhuan’s protection, and seeing Jian Sirun—a man who looked like he’d devour someone bones and all—standing beside Jian Xi, Jiang Qimeng whimpered. She didn’t dare to speak, shrinking behind Si Yuhuan.
Jian Sirun stripped off his rubber gloves, tossed them to the floor, and coolly turned to shield Jian Xi. "Alright, Little Sister. Getting angry with worthless people isn’t worth the toll on your health."
Jiang Qimeng was half-dead from anger. Aren’t doctors supposed to be sharp-tongued? These Jians, each one speaks more offensively than the last! How am I a ’worthless person’?!
Old Master Si came out and nodded to Jian Sirun. "Thank you for your hard work."
"The Si and Jian families have been friends for generations; this is something we should do regardless. Moreover, saving lives is a doctor’s calling. Si Junyan won’t die, but he will need a good while to recuperate," Jian Sirun explained.
Si Yuhuan inwardly sighed in relief. Thankfully, Jian Sirun wasn’t a talkative person. He hadn’t revealed the divorce from Jian Xi, successfully keeping it from Grandfather. Somehow, this meant Si Yuhuan now owed him two favors.
"I will arrange for someone to escort you back," Si Yuhuan offered as he personally saw Jian Sirun out.
Jian Xi was also ready to follow them out when Jiang Qimeng grabbed her.
"Weren’t you just sarcastically implying that Junyan was faking it in there for attention, to make Grandfather and Yuhan worry? Now you’re trying to leave without any explanation?"
Jian Xi raised an eyebrow. "So what do you want?"
Jiang Qimeng made an unreasonable demand. "Wait for Junyan to wake up, apologize to him, and then turn yourself in at the police station."
"Are you sleepwalking, or is your cerebellum underdeveloped? Spouting such childish nonsense, aren’t you afraid I’ll laugh at you for being an idiot?" Jian Xi shook off her hand. "Without evidence, I can sue you for slander. Catch the thief with the loot, as they say. You claim I arranged for Si Junyan to be harmed, nearly killing him. Where’s your proof?!"
"Just go to the police station, and there will certainly be evidence." Jiang Qimeng was relentless.
Jian Sirun frowned. He was always engrossed in his research abroad and had only heard about how much his Little Sister suffered under the Jian family, never witnessing it himself. Just a few days ago, he’d seen Si Yuhuan treating Little Sister passably well and never imagined this mistress could be so brazenly arrogant.
The dose a few days ago wasn’t strong enough. If it had managed to kill Si Yuhuan, he doubted Jiang Qimeng would still be flaunting herself here.
It served him right for being soft-hearted and giving Little Sister the antidote!
Just as he was about to step forward on behalf of Jian Xi, Si Yuhuan beat him to it.
"Qimeng, go inside and take care of Junyan." His tone was a command, not a suggestion, already laced with impatience.
Jiang Qimeng was unwilling, but Old Master Si also said, "Miss Jiang, if you wish to remain in the hospital, you’d best be obedient."
"Alright, Grandfather, I’ll listen to you."
Jiang Qimeng turned and left resentfully. She refused to believe it. Once she had irrefutable proof to present to Old Master Si, could Si Yuhuan still shield Jian Xi? Would Grandfather still like her?
Si Yuhuan glanced back at Jian Xi. "Did you do it?"
Jian Xi lifted her chin. "It has nothing to do with me."
She desperately wanted to curse him out, but her good upbringing made her hold back.
Si Yuhuan nodded. "I’ll have someone look into it and give you, and Si Junyan, an explanation. Regardless, Fourth Brother worked hard tonight."
At least he said something human, Jian Xi thought.
Jian Sirun adjusted his glasses, his voice low and inscrutable. "Si Yuhuan, I hope you won’t let my sister suffer any grievances. Otherwise... you should know the consequences..."
His gaze fell upon Old Master Si.
Si Yuhuan’s eyes narrowed slightly. A blatant threat. For the first time in his life, he was threatened into silence.
Si Yuhuan forced a smile. "I’m not that muddle-headed."
Not muddle-headed? Jian Xi scoffed internally. In your last life, you were practically muddled to death! Completely played by Jiang Qimeng, obeying her every whim. I’ve never seen such a sycophant!
Jian Xi left, arm in arm with Jian Sirun. Si Yuhuan lifted his hand but eventually let it fall.
Old Master Si watched the two leave, sighing repeatedly. He’d helped as much as he could; he was powerless to do more. Why did his grandson seem a bit weak? Did the situation require a stronger catalyst?
"Let’s go see Junyan first."
Si Yuhuan pushed Old Master Si’s wheelchair, taking him inside.
「...」
The moment Jian Xi stepped outside, she immediately asked Jian Sirun, "Fourth Brother, what’s really going on?"
The information she had received indicated Si Junyan had bribed the doctors and wasn’t seriously injured. She was also certain that Si Junyan, who cherished his life so dearly, would never let himself get truly hurt. So how could an accident like this have happened?
She had been prepared for a satisfying confrontation, but now it was all for naught, which greatly annoyed her.
Jian Sirun was also baffled. "His injuries don’t look fake. There’s one particularly fatal wound near his trachea. It’s impossible to determine if it was self-inflicted because he was already receiving a blood transfusion when I went in."
"Forget it, let him escape this time. It’s no big deal. Since he enjoys getting injured so much, he can just stay in there and recover properly. I have plenty of ways to deal with him."
Jian Xi chuckled and looked back at Jian Sirun. "Fourth Brother, you’ll help me, right?"
Jian Sirun tapped Jian Xi’s forehead. "They’re already on guard against you. They’ve assigned their own hired medical staff. I can’t interfere at all in there. What else can you do?"
