Capítulo 779: Chapter 779: Preserving Her Innocence
Tang Li turned her head upon noticing something and saw Song Baiyan.
He was standing at the doorway, hands pocketed, taking in everything in the living room. She didn’t know how long he had been there, but it was very likely that he witnessed her and Song Jingtian shirking responsibility off onto each other.
Tang Li nonchalantly turned her gaze away and continued wiping the mulberry leaves.
There was a playful smile on the corner of Song Baiyan’s mouth that made her feel embarrassed.
She admitted that she did not have the thickest skin, and always felt awkward coming over to Tan Palace late at night.
Furthermore, she hadn’t notified him of her visit tonight.
She hadn’t specifically messaged Song Baiyan about her return to the Capital from Shangbu, nor had they been in contact these past two days. Seeing each other now carried the air of reuniting after an absence.
When Song Baiyan came in, Tang Li finished wiping the mulberry leaves and began feeding them to the silkworms.
Xiao Minglan asked Song Baiyan, who was sitting on the sofa, “Did we interrupt your document review by suddenly calling you here?”
“I’ve mostly finished dealing with them.”
After speaking, Song Baiyan looked towards Tang Li, who was sitting in front of the coffee table.
With just one glance, Xiao Minglan caught it.
Xiao Minglan put down the fruit knife and started a new topic, “Didn’t the wife of the Legislative Affairs Director give birth to twins yesterday? You’re his superior, so you should probably acknowledge it.”
Song Baiyan nodded, “In a few days, I’ll have them bring the kids over.”
Xiao Minglan was just giving a reminder, and how it was to be executed would be Song Baiyan’s concern as the leader. She too, as part of his staff, had to put in some thought.
Tang Li did not interrupt their conversation.
On the contrary, Song Jingtian ran up to Song Baiyan, the small figure leaning against the armrest of the sofa, “Big brother, just now Tang Li whispered to me that she really likes these silkworm babies. Let’s let her take them all home!”
Tang Li: “…?!!”
Xiao Minglan saw through the little one’s intentions, “The silkworms you are raising, you refused to let anyone touch them before, and now you’re eager to offload them?”
“It’s not offloading, just letting Tang Li help me take care of them for a while.”
Song Jingtian scratched his cheek, defending himself, “I have to start school at the end of the month; I’m sure I’ll need time to adjust to the new school, so I need to prepare in advance. In the following days, it’s best not to wake up in the middle of the night to feed the silkworm babies. Tang Li can take care of them, and if I miss the silkworms, she can bring them back to Tan Palace.”
Then he heard his big brother ask, “You’re going to school, but doesn’t Tang Li have to study and work too?”
The little guy was momentarily speechless.
Tang Li timidly raised her hand, “I can help you with half of them.”
Half, that would still leave around a hundred.
Song Jingtian was not completely satisfied but had no other choice. He feared that if he bargained further, his big brother wouldn’t let Tang Li help at all. He clasped his little chubby hands together and reluctantly glanced at Tang Li, “Then you take care of 105, and I’ll take care of 100.”
Tang Li agreed, giving an “OK” sign with her hand.
Song Baiyan watched them divide up the silkworms, a deeper smile on his face. Even though Tang Li was a grown-up, in some ways, she was still childlike. The adult’s set of rules was, perhaps, still too early to apply to her.
The little guy, fearing Tang Li might back out, had already gone off to find boxes.
Now, only three people were left in the living room.
Song Baiyan finally asked Tang Li, “Why didn’t you mention you were coming to Tan Palace in advance?”
“I was afraid you’d be busy, so I called Aunt Min.”
In front of Xiao Minglan, Tang Li’s responses were all very proper.
It wasn’t long before Song Jingtian came back with a paper box.
As he helped Tang Li pick out silkworms, he counted 15 as 10, and later, taking advantage of the adults’ inattention, he dumped the rest of the silkworms into the paper box and covered them with thick mulberry leaves.
