Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space
Chapter 445 Divorce
CHAPTER 445: 445 DIVORCE
"Hmm, I’ll wait for you." Qiao Jingyi felt like she could barely move.
Yao Shimin entered his office, surprising Secretary Pan, "Vice Factory Director Yao?"
"Hmm, you continue with your work. I’m just making a call."
Yao Shimin found Hao Shichao’s number, "Secretary Hao, could you help me? Can all the furniture be completed before National Day? I’ve set my wedding for that day."
"Vice Factory Director Yao, that’s really urgent."
"Please, help me out."
"Alright, I’ll arrange it right away."
Being a man, there must be unspeakable reasons for such urgency.
After hanging up the phone, Yao Shimin went to Qian Jun’s office.
"Mr. Qian, I’ll need the car this afternoon; at the latest, I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon."
"Sure, Vice Factory Director Jiang brought it back today."
"Alright, I’m off then."
"In such a hurry?"
"Hmm, I’m going to the city today to get the letter with Jingyi."
Qian Jun watched Yao Shimin hurriedly leave, feeling a bit envious. He thought he should start a family too; it’s not feasible to always be single when everyone around is settling down.
Yao Shimin drove back, bringing two pancakes for Qiao Jingyi, along with a box of scrambled eggs and a serving of millet porridge.
Seeing Qiao Jingyi still asleep, he really wanted to just lie down beside her, but that wouldn’t do; the most important things needed to be done.
"Honey, wake up, time for breakfast."
Seeing her open her eyes and look at him with a dazed expression, he really wanted to embrace her.
"You’re back?"
"Yeah, we’ll drive back and then we can go to school to get the letter today."
"Alright, get me some water, I’ll wash up first."
By the time they finished eating, it was already after ten. They tidied up quickly and drove back to the city.
"It’s late; should we head home first?"
"Jingyi, let’s go to the school first. I won’t feel assured until we get the letter."
Qiao Jingyi was amused by his expression. "Alright, let’s go to the school."
They found the principal. As Qiao Jingyi was a girl, she stammered while explaining their visit.
"Congratulations, Xiao Qiao, no problem. I’ll head back to the office to get you the letter right away."
"Thank you, Principal."
"No need to be formal. It’s normal for a man to get married and a woman to marry."
Yao Shimin took the letter from the principal, smiling and thanking him.
"Comrade, you must treat our Xiao Qiao well in the future. She’s a good girl."
"Principal, don’t worry. I’ll definitely treat her well."
"Principal, I won’t be coming to class this afternoon."
"Hmm, it’s a special day. I’ll give you the day off." The principal was understanding and, fortunately, there were no classes scheduled for Xiao Qiao either.
Yao Shimin was thrilled, eager to head to the civil affairs bureau immediately. However, it was a rest time there, too.
"Sweetheart, let’s go eat."
"I’m not hungry, let’s go home."
"Alright, let’s head home. Are your parents home?"
"They both eat lunch at the cafeteria. Let’s go, if you’re hungry, I’ll cook you noodles."
"Sure, you should eat something too."
"Hmm, let’s go home."
When they got home, "Go lie in my room while I make you noodles."
"I’ll stay with you."
"No need, it won’t take long."
Even though Qiao Jingyi said that, Yao Shimin still followed her.
Each of them had a bowl of noodles. After finishing, Yao Shimin cleaned up the kitchen before returning to the room. Not seeing his wife, he strolled around the courtyard. Hearing the sound of water, he wanted to go in, but the door was locked from the inside, so he had no choice but to wait outside.
When Qiao Jingyi came out and saw Yao Shimin outside, she said, "You should wash up too."
"Alright, you go back inside. It’s too hot out here."
Yao Shimin moved quickly and returned to the room fifteen minutes later. Seeing his wife already lying on the kang, he snuggled up to her promptly.
"Behave yourself."
"I know, we still need to go to the civil affairs bureau this afternoon."
"Let’s ask my mom at her workplace to clarify. I remember my mom saying before that her colleague’s daughter got married but was stressed out because they missed getting the certificate first thing in the morning."
"Is that really necessary?"
"We’ll ask my mom later. If not, we’ll go early tomorrow morning."
Even though Yao Shimin didn’t go all the way, he still held Qiao Jingyi tightly. Kissing and cuddling made him restless too.
At one o’clock, they drove to Mrs. Qiao’s workplace.
"Why are you two here?"
"Mom, we got the introduction letter ready and want to get the certificate this afternoon."
"The certificate?"
"Hmm."
"There’s no certificate issuing in the afternoon, is there?" Mrs. Qiao’s keen eyes scanned her daughter, noticing something different but reassuring herself that the two were already engaged. And since the boy was eager to get the certificate, so be it.
"You two should go home, and go early tomorrow morning to get the certificate."
"Alright, we’ll listen to Mom, then we’ll head back."
"Go ahead." As they left, Mrs. Qiao gave her daughter a glare. Silly girl, how could you let him get away so easily? Really such a silly girl.
"It’s all your fault; my mom just glared at me."
"Yes, yes, it’s all my fault. Let’s go; we’ll head home and you can continue sleeping."
In the afternoon, the two stayed cozy at home, but they prepared dinner before the family returned.
After dinner, "Shimin, stay over tonight and sleep in your older brother’s room. Don’t delay the plan."
"Okay."
At this point, agreeing to anything they said was the best.
"Mom and Dad, I was thinking of setting our wedding date on National Day."
Mr. Qiao frowned, thinking it over, "Alright, you two figure it out. We can’t have a big ceremony now. The date doesn’t really matter, luckily we haven’t informed your aunts and uncles yet."
Mrs. Qiao nodded as well; she guessed her daughter must have slept with him already. At this point, they should marry early to avoid embarrassment if they have a baby sooner than expected.
"I’ll bring you your household registers in a moment."
The old couple lay on the kang without speaking, both guessing what had happened, but unsure of how to address it, yet agreeing sooner was better.
At four in the morning, Mrs. Qiao woke them up and made each a bowl of noodles before letting them drive to wait at the door of the civil affairs bureau.
When they arrived, there was still no one around. Yao Shimin wanted to wait outside, but the mosquitoes were too many, so they stayed in the car.
By five thirty, seeing people biking over in the distance, they hurriedly got out of the car and stood first in line at the door.
The two young people who arrived were unhappy not to be the first, but seeing the couple had come in a car, they knew not to mess with them, so they stood grumpily behind them.
Qiao Jingyi suppressed her laughter, finding the situation quite amusing.
