CHAPTER 503: CHAPTER 303: DAD AND MOM ARRIVE (PART 2)

The couple nodded and tiptoed to the bedside, seeing their daughter’s rosy complexion and long breaths, they were finally able to relax. Wen Xin sat by the bed, staring at her daughter and wiping away tears.

Luo Zhenggang gestured towards the door and walked out. Ye Xuan hurriedly followed, closing the door behind them, and asked with confusion, "Uncle, why did you and aunt come?"

"Ye’er’s Instructor called Wen Xin, and she panicked, so I came with her," Luo Zhenggang said with a smile, patting Ye Xuan on the shoulder, "Thank you for taking care of Ye’er."

"It’s only right. Uncle, are you going back tomorrow morning?" No wonder he agreed to take care of Luo Ye; so this was the plan. Ye Xuan inwardly grumbled about Hang Menglin sticking her nose into things.

"I have a meeting tomorrow morning and booked a five o’clock flight. Wen Xin didn’t dare to worry the elderly, so she didn’t inform the Wen Family. Ye, please continue to look after her."

"Uncle, rest assured."

Luo Zhenggang checked the time, "It’s getting late, you go get some rest. Tonight, your aunt and I will take care of Ye’er."

"I’m not tired." Ye Xuan pulled out his car keys, "Uncle, my car is parked in the courtyard, you should rest in it if necessary. I’ll come to you when Ye’er wakes up."

"Ye, I haven’t paid enough attention to Ye’er in the past, now, I just want to do everything I can to make up for it. Thank you." Luo Zhenggang refused Ye Xuan’s kindness and turned back into the ward.

After a moment of thought, Ye Xuan went to the doctor’s office, and soon returned with two reclining chairs, placing them at the edge of the room, speaking in a low voice, "Uncle, aunt, you rest for a while, I’ll keep watch."

Wen Xin cast a brief glance at Ye Xuan, remaining seated without moving. Luo Zhenggang waved at Ye Xuan with his hand, signaling him to rest. With no other choice, Ye Xuan had to leave the ward, as it would be inappropriate to stay any longer.

When the nurse came in to change the IV drip, Luo Ye woke up. Before she could fully regain consciousness, she heard her mother’s voice softly calling by her ear, "Ye’er, does it hurt?"

"Mom?" Luo Ye rubbed her eyes, confirming again, "Is it really Mom?"

"Yes, it’s Mom who’s here." Wen Xin touched her daughter’s forehead, "Don’t be afraid, Ye’er, mom and dad are here with you."

The young nurse chuckled, "Auntie, your daughter is very brave. From the surgery until now, she hasn’t cried out in pain once!"

Luo Zhenggang popped his head in, "I knew Ye’er was the bravest. I didn’t want you to call me a bad old man, so I came along with your mom too, thoughtful enough, right?"

"Dad..." Luo Ye looked embarrassed, "I was just joking. Dad, you’re going back early tomorrow, right?"

Luo Zhenggang nodded, "There’s a meeting at nine tomorrow morning; I’ll catch the plane at five."

"Dad, I was wrong." Luo Ye looked guilty.

"Silly girl, even if you hadn’t called me a bad old man, I would have come. I haven’t paid enough attention to you since you were little. At a time like this, of course, Dad has to step up. Can’t let your mom hog all the affection."

"No matter how you try, Ye’er is closer to me," Wen Xin teased her husband with a look, then turned to her daughter, "Ye’er, am I right?"

Luo Ye just smiled without speaking, refusing to answer her mom’s question, but after thinking for a moment, she asked, "Has Brother Ye gone home?"

"Not yet." Ye Xuan quickly stepped in.

Luo Zhenggang and Wen Xin both had a look of bemused helplessness—the couple had inadvertently become the villain, driving someone to the door.

Luo Ye looked at Ye Xuan for confirmation, "Brother Ye, get a good rest tonight, let my parents work hard. After my dad leaves tomorrow, you can take turns with my mom, okay?"

"Alright, I’ll rest in the car and go to see off uncle in the morning." Without waiting for Luo Zhenggang to refuse, Ye Xuan’s gaze turned towards him, "Uncle, that’s settled then."

"Dad, listen to him," said Luo Ye with a weak smile, "Let’s leave it at that."

Luo Zhenggang waved his hand, "These two kids talk in the same tone now; alright, that’s settled!"

After Ye Xuan left, Luo Ye chatted with her parents for a while before falling fast asleep again. The couple looked at their daughter’s small face tenderly, their eyes full of reluctance.

"This girl, she’s fighting with her life for this family." Wen Xin wiped the corner of her eyes, murmuring softly, "You hide many things from me, but it doesn’t mean I don’t feel it. Zhenggang, promise me, you’ll look after our daughter."

"I know." Luo Zhenggang patted his wife’s hand, his eyes also becoming moist. This illness was a minor thing, but the reason why his daughter was fighting so hard, he understood all too well.

He couldn’t understand where his daughter’s keen intuition came from, but he was certain that she chose this path both to repay a debt and to protect her family.

Her small and fragile shoulders had shouldered the burdens not meant for her too soon. At her age, she should have been playfully dependant on her parents, yet she had to do many things that even adults find difficult.

Fortunately, the daughter had met someone early on who could protect her. From his observation, he should be a man on whom his daughter could rely for life. He only hoped that the Ye Family would accept her and treat her well!

...

The next morning, Ye Xuan drove Luo Zhenggang to the airport.

"Ye, uncle has a favor to ask of you," Luo Zhenggang hesitated, then finally spoke up.

"Uncle, just tell me anything you need."

"When Ye’er was small, I didn’t fulfill my role as a father. Her mother lives in regret, and love was sparse. When we came to our senses, it turned out she was the one protecting us. Now, our biggest wish is for her to have a happy future.

I’m quite pleased with you, but while we trust your promise, we can’t help worrying about potential obstacles from your family. I hope, if you feel that the barriers are insurmountable, you’d tell Ye’er early, to give her time to prepare mentally. Can you do that?"

"Uncle, I understand your feelings," Ye Xuan sincerely looked at Luo Zhenggang, "I promise, I’ll make her happy."

"With your word, I am at ease," Luo Zhenggang breathed a sigh of relief, "If Wen Xin makes things difficult for you, please bear with it a bit more. She’s also just worried about Ye’er."

"I know."
