Rebirth: Solely Cherished by the Devoted Commander
Chapter 32: Saving Lives
CHAPTER 32: CHAPTER 32: SAVING LIVES
The woman laughed angrily, "No problem with you two being in bed together? I’ve caught you in the act, and you still shamelessly deny it, disgraceful!"
The other woman’s voice was soft and weak, "Da Bao, help me out, will you? Sister-in-law is angry, and we really don’t have that kind of relationship!"
"Shut it, fox spirit! How dare you call him Da Bao? You’ve already gotten into bed with him, what else is there to deny? I’ll tear that fox spirit face of yours!" Guihua’s voice changed, filled with class hatred and national animosity towards this woman.
Another round of banging sounds, and the woman screamed, "Don’t hit me, please spare me, sister-in-law, I’ll quit my job now and leave, okay?"
Everyone shouted, "The fox spirit is trying to run!"
Guihua also screamed not to let her escape, but Sun Chan was worried about the pregnant woman’s nervousness—what if something happened? Just as she opened the door, she heard Guihua’s miserable cry, followed by a thud as something fell to the floor, and someone shouted.
"Ah! There’s blood, what should we do now?
The husband was also terrified, "Wife, Guihua!"
Something indeed happened! Sun Chan opened the door to see a woman in her twenties sitting on the ground, painfully clutching her stomach. Her face was haggard, her clothes were nice, and the man beside her, dressed in a suit, appeared to belong to such a scene.
He anxiously supported her arm, "Guihua! Get up, let’s go to the hospital."
Guihua screamed in tears, "Wang Dabao, that woman did this to me! Aren’t you human?"
Wang Dabao slapped himself hard, and his face swelled in an instant, "I was really wrong, but let’s talk about this later. Saving you is the priority now."
As he helped Guihua up, he saw the blood on the floor, his vision went black, and he loosened his hold. If it weren’t for Sun Chan and another woman going over to support her, Guihua would have fallen again.
Wang Dabao leaned against the wall, struggling to speak, "I can’t see blood, Guihua, you just go to the maternity hospital! I’ll wait for you there!" After saying that, he ran off quickly.
Someone burst out cursing, "What kind of person is this? His own wife is giving birth, and he just runs off without a care!"
Most people just watched the commotion, but when it came to actually dealing with it, they couldn’t do it, so gradually they all left.
Only Sun Chan and the woman who helped earlier stayed. Sun Chan saw that at the door of the room where Wang Dabao had just come out, there was a quilt thrown, and she quickly grabbed it, letting the woman support Guihua outside.
"Get to the hospital first!" Guihua cried out in pain with every step, tears continuously streaming down.
"I really regret it! Why did I have a child with someone like this? My life is so bitter..."
Sun Chan supported her waist, comforting her, "It’s okay, big sister, you’ll be fine. Don’t think about anything now, think about your child, you need to be strong. Deep breaths, deep breaths!"
Fortunately, having read something about maternity care before, she comforted her as the book suggested.
The other woman helped hail a tricycle, saying she had to catch a train and left.
Only Sun Chan accompanied the pregnant woman to the hospital. She placed the quilt on the tricycle, let Guihua lie on it, and held her hand to calm her down.
She smiled at Guihua, "In our village, the women say seeing blood first before childbirth is a good sign, you’ll give birth soon, don’t worry. Deep breaths, don’t overthink."
"Thank you, girl, I really... ahh!" She screamed in pain again, her body constantly twitching.
Sun Chan comforted her, feeling very anxious herself, she wasn’t a doctor, what if a life was lost?
Luckily, they arrived at the hospital quickly. Sun Chan paid the fare, but the driver didn’t take the money, "Just get her inside quickly, don’t waste time."
"Thank you, uncle!" Sun Chan supported her as they entered the hospital until a few nurses helped Guihua into the delivery room, where she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Then a nurse approached her to pay the fee.
Sun Chan frowned, "Has her husband not come yet?" How can he be so uncaring?
"I don’t know. You should pay the fee first."
She didn’t have much money on hand, but she didn’t hesitate, as it was a matter of life and death, and paid forty yuan for hospitalization. After waiting outside for a while, there was still no sign of anyone coming.
Wang Dabao was nowhere to be found. Guihua’s screams from the delivery room made Sun Chan feel waves of sadness, and she suddenly thought of her own mother.
Zhao Xiuxia said she was thrown to the side of a well, probably to drown her, but the perpetrator couldn’t bear it and left her there.
Why did my mom have me if she didn’t like me or want me?
In her past life, Sun Chan often thought about her origins and hoped that one day her biological mother would come to take her away from her suffering, but it never happened even after a lifetime. In this life, she’s given up hope. Maybe her biological mother had long forgotten about her.
But now this unfamiliar pregnant woman made her think about these things again. Sun Chan wiped her eyes and sighed.
Why can’t I just let go? The mystery of her origins was a lifelong heartache spanning two lifetimes.
"Wah!" The baby’s cries brought her back to reality, indicating the baby was born. Sun Chan quickly went over.
The doctor came out, "It’s a boy, both the baby and the mother are safe, but the mother lost a lot of blood and will take some time to wake up. The baby is being placed in an incubator for now."
"Thank you!" Sun Chan sighed in relief, things were finally okay.
Just then, rushed footsteps echoed in the hallway—Wang Dabao arrived, carrying some items: a thermos, a towel, a blanket, and an insulated jug, presumably containing soup or porridge. He was sweating profusely, having been out for so long to take care of these tasks.
Wang Dabao gasped, "How is it? Is my wife okay?"
Seeing he first expressed concern for his wife, Sun Chan’s impression of him improved slightly, though she still spoke coolly, "She’s still sleeping, gave birth to a boy."
Wang Dabao jumped up joyfully, then spun around in circles with his things, "Great! Miss, thank you so much! I really don’t know what to say, my wife has it so tough!"
Sun Chan said nothing, this man still had a bit of conscience.
Guihua remained unconscious on the bed, her face pale as paper. The baby had been taken away by the nurses.
Wang Dabao, indeed a person of the world, was well-mannered, first obtaining the bill and reimbursing the hospitalization fee Sun Chan had paid, then repeatedly thanking her.
Sun Chan said, "It’s no problem for me; just take good care of your wife." She said and proceeded to take her leave.
