Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite
Chapter 244 - 67: Bloodstained Bonds
CHAPTER 244: CHAPTER 67: BLOODSTAINED BONDS
"How could she not be in the car," Chang Mei fumed in secret, clearly having instructed her henchmen to sabotage the car before Yan Wuxu got in, but somehow that damn girl still managed to escape.
Seeing no trace of sorrow in Chang Mei’s expression, Su Ziceng was even more convinced she was a ruthless woman. "Is the accident report out?" Su Ziceng knew that although Ah Xiang was somewhat greedy, his driving skills must be flawless since Chang Mei had hired him as a driver.
"The driver’s body contained no alcohol, and there were no skid marks at the scene of the accident," the police station had already issued a preliminary analysis report of the accident.
"Let me handle the rest," Chang Mei didn’t want Su Ziceng to be too involved in this matter, "The Su Family will take care of Ah Xiang’s family expenses."
To simply dismiss a life with money was indeed Chang Mei’s typical way of doing things. Su Ziceng was very dissatisfied with Chang Mei’s approach, but she did not show it; after asking a few simple questions, she left the police station.
Mrs. Yan, upon receiving Su Ziceng’s call, immediately dialed the number Yan Wuxu had left behind, "Xiao Xu, Ziceng has already called, what’s going on with you, why make me lie and deceive Ziceng?" Mrs. Yan had previously received a call from Yan Wuxu, asking her to definitely keep it from Su Ziceng.
"It’s nothing, Mom. I had a little argument with Qing Chang and felt a bit upset, so I went out to play for a few days. For now, just help me keep Ziceng reassured," Yan Wuxu lay in the hospital bed, now dressed in clean clothes, and no longer bore the dead gray color on her face.
This was a private hospital that Fei Qing had found; the environment was excellent, and the doctors were acquaintances of the Fei Family. They often helped the Fei family with their affairs, performing surgeries like abortions quite often. So when a flustered Fei Qing rushed Yan Wuxu in, the head doctor grasped the situation and without much questioning—even without registering a name—admitted her.
Above the IV stand, saline dripped silently. Yan Wuxu’s hand lay outstretched, watching her purple-veined wrists soak in the saline. She curled her legs, coiling her body into a ball, and then placed her hand on the phone in the ward. Her fingers trembling, she dialed a number.
"Qing Chang," Yan Wuxu tried to control her voice, hesitating over whether or not to tell Su Qingzhang.
"I heard you were going home to stay for a few days; it’s good for you to go back. We need to make a trip abroad these next few days," Su Qingzhang, after hearing what Chang Mei had passed on, wasn’t too worried—it was just a driver who had died, and finding a new one would be easy.
"Who are you going with? Chang Mei again, that bitch!" Yan Wuxu clutched at the white sheets, causing the IV stand to make noise due to her violent movements; the saline bottle swayed nonstop, and the continuous saline drops collided within the dropper. It had to be Chang Mei, definitely Chang Mei. Yan Wuxu bit her lips hard, almost drawing blood.
After leaving the Subi Auction House, the accident occurred. That car had always been used by her and Ziceng; only Chang Mei would want to put them both in mortal danger. Ziceng was lucky, having escaped, but her dear baby, her unfortunate baby, did not make it. The boy who was supposed to bring her limitless wealth and status was gone.
"Can you please stop being irrational, think not only of yourself but also of the child," Su Qingzhang pinched the bridge of his nose—the child had not been easy to conceive. The embarrassment of freezing his sperm in the United States was still fresh in his memory. He had been the butt of jokes among his acquaintances when he married Yan Wuxu. If not to soothe Yan Wuxu’s mood, he would not have, at his age, gone to the United States to endure those foreign troubles—a humbling experience he did not wish to repeat. "That’s all, don’t call me again for no reason; I’ll contact you."
The phone hung up, and Yan Wuxu’s hands released the bedding, revealing a wrinkled mess. From the disconnected line came a cold dripping sound.
"He doesn’t love me at all," Yan Wuxu touched the phone receiver, as though a mother caressing her child, "He married me only because I resemble Ye Taina; even in his dreams, he calls out only Ye Taina’s name." During those days in the United States, she thought he loved her, until that day, after she successfully conceived.
That night, as she flowed in and out of sleep, Yan Wuxu heard Su Qingzhang’s sleep-talking: "Tina, I’m about to have a child, one who looks like you and also like me."
"It’s better this way," Yan Wuxu said unconsciously: "I don’t want a child that looks like Ye Taina, he would rob the love Qing Chang has for me. In this world, no one can take away Su Qingzhang and the Su Family. Not Ye Taina, not Chang Mei, not Chang Chi... and not Ziceng."
Outside the window of the private hospital was an infinite expanse of the ocean, where the sun was setting on the other side of the sea, splitting the waters into several different colors: muddy yellow, sunset gold, and broken blood red.
Amid the stark whiteness of the ward and the view outside the window, Yan Wuxu clung to herself in solitude, in a world where she was the only one who could protect herself.
The door was opened, and Fei Qing walked in. He looked at Yan Wuxu with a sense of guilt; he was unaware that Yan Wuxu was still carrying a child. If he had known, he would not have recklessly chased after the car.
"Fei Qing, you owe me..." Yan Wuxu’s head rested on the pillow, her entire body bathed in the blood-like sunset. (To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to vote for monthly tickets and recommendation tickets at Qidian (qidian.com). Your support is my greatest motivation.)
