Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite
Chapter 31 - 30: Drugged
CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 30: DRUGGED
In September, at the new student orientation ceremony of Daoquan University. The school auditorium was filled with people early on, and among the front row seats reserved for new student representatives, Hang Yishao looked distractedly at the speech in his hand. The solemn auditorium practically became his backyard.
"Fei Qing, this is the quality of new students at Daoquan University you talked about," Hang Yishao was quite dissatisfied, as if he was holding a not-so-attractive report card in his hand. No wonder he was displeased, the only son of the Fei Family, who was also one of his friends, Mr. Fei had boasted that the girls at Daoquan University were top-notch in the nation. Yet today, he was utterly disappointed.
Unlike the delicate privileged youth in the front rows, who avoided military training under their family’s protection, looking back, the new students who underwent military training were each as dark as charred steaks, extinguishing Hang Yishao’s desire for raw food with just one glance.
"Why would I deceive you? I even asked the admissions office to prepare a list in advance. There are a few from the art department, their makeup photos look quite decent, just not sure if they are presentable without makeup. Also, there’s someone from your department named Deng Jiani... hey, why hasn’t she shown up yet? It’s time already, why is everyone not here yet?" Fei Qing didn’t care about the school leaders sitting solemnly beside him, as he looked at the largely empty seats of the management department.
"Which one?" Hang Yishao looked back, just about to check people out when his vision was blocked by a wall of flesh.
In the auditorium, although the air conditioning was on full blast, the flesh wall in front of Hang Yishao was still sweating profusely, strenuously blocking his view, and emanating a sour sweat smell that was extremely irritating. To make matters worse, the flesh wall squeezed between Hang Yishao and Fei Qing, causing their big-sized buttocks to sink into the dark red seats, making Hang Yishao and Fei Qing feel like they had shrunk.
"Hello, I am Qiu Zhi." Qiu Zhi kept swaying his body, the stale rice-like smell so pungent that Hang Yishao and Fei Qing lost any interest in discussing beauties.
Taking advantage of the gap when Hang Yishao went up to give his speech, Qiu Zhi murmured in his heart, "Reporting to the leader, successfully infiltrated the enemy base, everything is going smoothly."
On the road to Daoquan University, a school bus had broken down, for some reason, halfway there the water tank leaked, and then the engine also stopped responding.
There were also a group of new students on the bus, who didn’t make it in time to report. Because Daoquan University expanded its admissions, there were new and old dormitories; the new dormitory was situated right next to Kelly Women’s College, and the management department belle, Deng Jiani, was assigned to the new dorm. Usually, she would require a school bus ride back and forth. Early in the morning, she spent two hours dressing up, just waiting to outshine everyone at the new student ceremony.
Seeing the school bus unable to start, the students inside all got off the bus. Among the group wearing school uniforms, Deng Jiani, a beauty from the South, stood out with her 1.7-meter height, her meticulously crafted peach blossom eyes and curvy figure.
"Cold drinks, ice cream cones!" The vendor’s sun hat was worn very low, his voice kept low, frantically pulling out chilled beverages and ice cream cones, tempting the group of "late" students in the sweltering heat, where the autumn tiger still had some influence.
"Give me an ice cream cone," Deng Jiani said while using her hands to shield herself from the strong sunlight, her skin showed no signs of sun exposure, another spoiled girl who used sickness as an excuse to avoid military training.
Compared to Daoquan University, Kelly Women’s College is much more humane, considering the notion that fairness can cover a multitude of sins, they do not require military training.
The ice cream in her mouth spread a creamy vanilla flavor, Deng Jiani quickly ate more than half of it, "New flavor?" The ice cream tasted a bit sour.
"A new yogurt flavor that’s perfect for a beautiful woman like you to eat, beautifying and nourishing." The vendor complimented as he pulled out a chocolate-covered ice cream bar, "Here’s another one for free."
Deng Jiani looked at the tempting, cool dessert and then at her own slender waist, reluctantly said, "No, just give me a bottle of water."
"Alright," the vendor crouched down and fished a brimming bottle of mineral water from the ice bucket, very chilly in his hand.
Seeing no signs of the school bus being fixed, a group of students started walking forward. After being roasted by the sun along the way, Deng Jiani’s makeup was probably more melancholy than the melted ice cream bar.
The driver, with a face covered in grease, had been fixing the engine for half a day without any progress. Exhausted and thirsty, he reached for the ice bucket.
"Wait," the vendor’s voice turned shrill as he took off his oversized sunhat, revealing a pale face. Looking closely, today’s Su Ziceng looked different. She wasn’t there to compete in beauty with Deng Jiani, but to provide timely help. Su Ziceng slapped the driver’s hand away and tossed him an ice cream, sticking out her tongue playfully, "You can’t drink this water. This is for free, it hasn’t expired."
The snack cart rumbled towards Kelly Women’s College, and just beside West Lake, the driver heard distant shouting, "Master, no need to fix it anymore, call ’Sixth District Car Shop’, they’ll fix it for sure."
During the ongoing freshmen inauguration ceremony, the front row of school leaders received an urgent notice: a batch of freshmen from the business department suffered food poisoning, with bouts of vomiting and diarrhea, and had been rushed to the hospital.
When the school leaders and student representatives arrived at Mo City First Hospital, looking at Deng Jiani lying on the bed, pale-faced and disheveled, and Qiu Zhi shivering in the September heat, they deeply understood the saying about the cruelty of a woman’s heart.
"Deng University Department Flower, I didn’t mistreat you. This is an unfortunate ’collective food poisoning’ incident. Ah, it’s a rare occurrence, but you’re just a tad more miserable because you ate both the expired ice cream and laxative-laced mineral water," said Su Ziceng, checking the message from Qiu Zhi, a mole by her lips forming a dimple.
Quickly, Su Ziceng pushed the snack cart into the bushes by the roadside. It seemed she missed the inauguration ceremony at Kelly Women’s School; she needed to find the freshman registration desk and the dormitory fast.
The dense trees and vines along the way only partially blocked the intense heat. As she wiped her sweat, Su Ziceng looked around for someone to ask for directions. Kelly Women’s School, appearing small, was actually an old-style maze. Wandering around, she remained just within the outer layers of the towering green trees.
Due to the inauguration ceremony, there was not a single student along the way. After asking a security guard, he carelessly pointed her toward a signpost. Once she stood in front of the signpost, the previous dimple quickly turned into a grim swirl. Su Ziceng, complete directionally challenged, was utterly baffled.
The map of Kelly Women’s School was actually quite detailed, clearly listing the names of each building, forming a pattern reminiscent of a Bagua. Beyond that, Su Ziceng couldn’t understand it; all the inscriptions were in a foreign language. Having been in the sun for too long, Su Ziceng just felt dizzy and vaguely felt that her fate wouldn’t be much better than Deng Jiani’s.
Kelly Women’s School, truly a bizarre place.
