Rebirth: The Ascent of a Socialite
Chapter 51 - 50: Top-Notch Lecturer
CHAPTER 51: CHAPTER 50: TOP-NOTCH LECTURER
All the horses were left to one side, and the female students dressed in Kelly jockey suits all gathered in one direction.
The towering figure standing by the horse arena stood out among dozens of heads, with Pello at the center of the students, listening to the greetings rising and falling and responding to each one.
"Who’s that?" Deng Jiani glanced over and asked a classmate beside her who was equally excited. The equestrian class differed from normal cultural courses as it was a school-wide elective and a new cross-school course opened this year. They say that when it came to course enrollment, the spots were almost fought over to the last, and many boys even signed up for the class in the hopes of interacting with the girls from Kelly Women’s College, but unfortunately, they all failed to secure a spot.
"Kelly Women’s School’s top-notch lecturer - Perlo. I heard he’s only twenty-four, single, unmarried, and mixed-race," watching the department belle, who typically carried herself with haughty airs, also seem to be moved by mortal desires, the girl next to her quickly followed up with an answer and then hurriedly squeezed into the crowd. Good catches like Hang Yishao had already been touched by her, and heaven forbid she monopolized the top-notch lecturer as well.
"Who is he?" Hang Yishao was asking Fei Qing the same question. He had heard about the cross-school program from Kelly Women’s School and had attended a few of Kelly teachers’ open classes. Their teaching level was quite good, and their methods were fresh, only to find that their teachers were a bit dull in appearance - mostly middle-aged uncles and aunts. Suddenly a young lecturer of hall fame caliber appeared, which was quite unexpected.
"Weizhi Perlo, the lecturer from Kelly Women’s School who’s a hit with a thousand students," Fei Qing had a data gathering capability much stronger than the average student, and the female students from Kelly Women’s School were also one of his major targets for romance. Hence, he was well-informed about any potential obstacles from Kelly. "This guy really makes me grit my teeth," compared to Hang Yishao’s casual inquiry, Fei Qing was much more heated.
About half of the female students at Kelly Women’s School had a crush on Perlo, and of the rest, either the age was not appropriate or they were lesbians. The trend of women loving women was strong within the school, and Fei Qing watched his list of romantic conquests shrink by a significant margin, which got on his nerves.
"He’s not all that impressive," Hang Yishao looked at Perlo being surrounded by a crowd, a face of refinement, and almost of similar height to him. His face was indeed handsome, but too bad he was just a poor teacher. Hang Yishao patted Fei Qing’s shoulder nonchalantly, and Deng Jiani quickly averted her gaze, giving him a yearning look as if her eyes could only see Hang Yishao.
Also unaffected by Perlo were the likes of Chang Chi. She wasn’t a fan of outdoor activities, but upon hearing that Hang Yishao had chosen the equestrian class, she followed suit and registered for it as well.
The group of girls Chan Chi was with had just been pacified by Perlo, and the basics of the horse riding class had already been taught by another teacher. The students had learned the very basics of mounting and taming horses, and today’s main task was to lead the horses around; put simply, one student would lead the horse while another would ride it, and they would walk back and forth several times in the leading arena to get familiar with the horse’s behavior.
The horses from Kelly Women’s School were mostly docile and, when soothed a little, could be well controlled. Although all these students were novices, as long as they were patient and meticulous, leading the horses wouldn’t pose a problem.
The pairing of students for horse walking was based on voluntariness, and most of the students at Kelly Women’s College spontaneously teamed up in pairs. The only two male students, Hang Yishao and Fei Qing, were quite popular, especially Hang Yishao, who received admiring looks from most of the female students. However, Hang Yishao, after scanning the field, decisively led a horse over to Deng Jiani, which inflated her sense of triumph even further. In this batch of students from Kelly Women’s College, the most outstanding female student, known as Mo City’s top socialite Wen Maixue, was unfortunately mostly absent from campus due to her family’s charity work, leaving Deng Jiani undoubtedly the most exceptional choice on the field, excluding Wen Maixue.
Seeing Deng Jiani riding the horse with her back straight as a peacock fanning its feathers, Chang Chi’s heart boiled with rage. She walked over to Fei Qing with a resentful glare.
Fei Qing was also somewhat disappointed; none of the girls in the equestrian class were as beautiful as Yan Wuxu, which diminished his interest in pursuing anyone. He glanced at Chang Chi, who had a cold expression, and could only reluctantly lead a horse over, settling for someone familiar to walk the horse with.
With a total of seventy students in the class sharing thirty-five horses, there was coincidentally one female student who had requested leave, leaving one female student without a partner. After the horses were all led away, this girl was both surprised and excited, looking expectantly at Pello with wide eyes. Little did she know, Pello simply gestured to the stable hand, and her horse was quickly led out as well. The girl had no choice but to reluctantly mount the horse and ride off.
In the horse walking area, the students proceeded in an orderly manner. Hang Yishao’s hand rested on Deng Jiani’s riding boots as he boldly stroked upwards. Deng Jiani chided him softly, then bent down to whisper sweet nothings in his ear.
Following them, Fei Qing was gazing at the sky, heaving sighs of longing and wondering why Yan Wuxu hadn’t come to class. He had clearly heard that she had also selected the equestrian course. Could it be that she was not in this class? Behind him, Chang Chi watched with fury in her eyes, gripping the horse whip so tightly it was taut, wishing she could spur her horse to trample that detestable Deng Jiani to a pulp.
"I heard that you’ve been managing the Su Family’s industry lately," Fei Qing remarked idly, after counting enough clouds in the sky, trying to make small talk.
The relationship between Su Qingzhang and Chang Mei was an open secret in Mo City; everyone knew that, by virtue of her mother’s status, Chang Chi was favored by Su Qingzhang even more than his own daughter, Su Ziceng.
Speaking of the Su Family was akin to touching on Chang Chi’s pride and joy. Though she might be momentarily frustrated in love, she was sailing smoothly in her career. Once she took over the Su Family’s business, who would dare to cross her? Not even Su Ziceng herself would be able to act without paying heed to Chang Chi. With these thoughts in mind, a hint of pride appeared on Chang Chi’s face, and she couldn’t help but boast, "It’s all thanks to my godfather. He recently acquired a new auction house and didn’t have the right person to manage it, so he handed it over to my mom. She thinks I should gain some experience and is considering giving it to me to handle."
Fei Qing offered his congratulations, but inside he looked down on her. With Chang Chi’s affected mannerisms, no wonder Hang Yishao was unimpressed. No matter how much he favored her, blood was thicker than water, and in the end, Su Qingzhang would surely pass down the family business to Su Ziceng.
Chang Chi kept talking about Su Qingzhang’s affection for her and her mother. The pager at her waist beeped continuously, and she turned it off in irritation—it was that number again. For several weeks now, a strange number had been persistently calling her, and it was utterly annoying.
