Rebirth! The Assassin's Revenge
Chapter 151: For What Reason
CHAPTER 151: CHAPTER 151: FOR WHAT REASON
Recently, Gu Ningyue always finds herself reminiscing about past events.
How did she get through those tough times back then?
No matter how she tries, Gu Ningyue seems unable to recall those details.
After getting off the Ferris wheel, Gu Ningyue gently clasped Ling Tianyou’s hand and said softly, "Content, it’s time to go home."
Ling Tianyou glanced at the time, "There’s still a performance later. Don’t you want to watch it?"
Gu Ningyue shook her head, "No, if we go home late, someone will seize the opportunity to criticize us."
Ling Tianyou chuckled softly, "Do you really care about that?"
Gu Ningyue dared to contradict even his words, let alone those of the Gu Family.
"Well, I wouldn’t say I care much." Gu Ningyue laughed a little, "But who wants to spend every day uselessly arguing with them for fun? They don’t give me any money, yet they want to drain my energy? I’m not that bored."
Ling Tianyou looked at the lively crowd ahead, and his lips curled slightly, "You’re right. Let’s go. I’ll take you home."
Upon leaving the amusement park, before Gu Ningyue could get in the car, Ling Tianyou’s phone suddenly rang.
The smile on Ling Tianyou’s face vanished almost instantly, leaving no trace.
Gu Ningyue sat in the passenger seat calmly, unaware of who was on the other end, only hearing Ling Tianyou stiffly say, "I’m driving, let’s set up a time when I get back!"
No knowing what was said next, Ling Tianyou frowned yet his voice sounded somewhat warmer, "Alright, take care. Goodnight."
Gu Ningyue widened her eyes, goodnight?
Having lived with Ling Tianyou for so long, when had she ever seen him say goodnight to anyone on the phone?
Not even to Chi Xingtong, she hadn’t seen him say that!
As the car started, Gu Ningyue, fastening her seatbelt, couldn’t help but ask, "Who was that? A friend?"
Ling Tianyou nodded, "Yes, a friend I haven’t seen in a long time is back."
Something flashed through Gu Ningyue’s mind but she couldn’t grasp it.
After a moment of silence, Gu Ningyue tentatively asked, "Related to business?"
Ling Tianyou nodded again, seeming not to want to dwell on the topic, answering indifferently, "Yes, there are some things to discuss regarding the company."
Seeing Ling Tianyou like this, Gu Ningyue decided to remain quiet.
All the way, she secretly observed Ling Tianyou’s expression; after that call, the light-hearted mood from before had disappeared.
In its place was a heaviness that was hard to describe.
Or perhaps, a subtle worry?
What was he worried about? Could it be something happened in the company?
Upon dropping her off at the Gu Family, Ling Tianyou looked at her arm and said, "Don’t exert yourself too much, progress gradually, and don’t rush."
"Don’t worry! I’ll be careful. You take care too!"
After saying their goodbyes, Gu Ningyue watched Ling Tianyou’s car disappear into the night, and she turned towards the villa.
"Miss, you’re back!" As soon as she entered, the housekeeper said to Gu Ningyue, "The master has been waiting for you in the study for a long time."
Waiting for her? Just a few days and the old fox can’t sit still?
Handing her coat to a nearby servant, Gu Ningyue stepped towards the study, "Knock, knock—Dad, it’s me, Ning Yue!"
Though she was reluctant to call him Dad, there was no choice; he was the birth father of the original owner, and she had to acknowledge that!
"Come in!"
Upon opening the door, Gu Ningyue saw Gu Zheng sitting behind the lamp.
Though nearing fifty, he still appeared quite cultured, which couldn’t hide that he was once a handsome man full of charm.
No wonder the original owner’s mother insisted on marrying him despite family opposition; these romantic words from this face were probably easier to believe than most!
"Sit down!" Gu Zheng looked up at Gu Ningyue, his eyes devoid of emotion, as if staring at a stranger.
With such a father, Gu Ningyue felt a pang of sympathy for the original owner.
"Dad, what do you need me for?"
Gu Zheng got straight to the point, "You’ve been living at home these days, how do you feel? Are you used to it?"
Gu Ningyue curled her lips, the question seemed almost sarcastic.
Living in her own home, why wouldn’t she be used to it?
"Very well! Only Mom’s room—I haven’t figured out how to renovate it yet."
"About that..." Gu Zheng paused, seemingly having long forgotten about it, "I know some designers, I’ll have them come up with a few design plans tomorrow, and then find a reliable renovation company to handle it. It’s not difficult."
Gu Ningyue nodded, "That room was wrecked by Xiao Heng; I want to add a few more pieces of furniture. After all, though Mom is gone, as her daughter, I am still here. I want the room to look like when Mom was still around."
Gu Zheng’s brows furrowed then relaxed, whether impatient with the original owner’s mother or with the daughter in front of him, she couldn’t tell: "Do as you wish, add whatever you want. After all, your mother only left you as her daughter, it’s only right for you to care."
Gu Ningyue sneered inwardly, as if he wasn’t her husband.
"Dad, you’re really generous. I was afraid you wouldn’t agree, so I didn’t dare mention it!" Gu Ningyue spoke insincerely, looking at Gu Zheng with a hint of melancholy, "By the way, I haven’t gone to the hospital recently, is Xiao Heng okay?"
Mentioning Gu Heng, Gu Zheng instantly forgot what he originally wanted to discuss.
His expression grew more somber, like the bleak night outside: "Another month until discharge. Even after that... it’s hopeless."
He never imagined those individuals would investigate so swiftly, giving him no chance to catch his breath.
Ultimately, it’s his son who let down the Gu Family, not only failing to bring any prestige, but also engaging in embarrassing disgraceful acts.
With evidence undeniable, he pulled every string, exhausted every connection, but somehow, not one person dared to extend help.
After brief contemplation, he roughly guessed the reason behind.
Most likely due to Ling Tianyou saying something, causing everyone to avoid him like the plague.
Considering this, Gu Zheng looked at Gu Ningyue, suddenly feeling as if he bore a crushing burden making breathing difficult.
When did his daughter become such a formidable individual?
Gu Ningyue fiddled with her nails, nonchalantly ignoring Gu Zheng’s stare: "Let him stay there a while; maybe he’ll learn his lesson when he gets out!"
After a moment of silence, Gu Zheng couldn’t help but voice his bewilderment: "Ning Yue, why did you come back?"
He couldn’t quite understand why Gu Ningyue had returned.
Could it be due to Gu Wanwan marrying Ye Mingchen, and she still feels dissatisfied?
