CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: WHETHER YOU LIVE OR DIE IS UP TO YOUR LUCK
Taking advantage of the man’s unguarded moment, Yunyi struck him from behind with a knife.
As the man turned around, she delivered another slice to his waist. Then she shouted to the man previously pursued by these attackers, "Quick, run!"
The man clearly hadn’t expected Yunyi to be so formidable, not only saving herself but also coming to his aid.
But he wasn’t the selfish sort to abandon his rescuer and flee alone.
Enduring the intense pain in his arm, he drew a short knife from the side of his leather boot and lunged at the leader who was about to strike Yunyi.
Now attacked from front and back, the leader kicked at the knife in the man’s hand, while Yunyi seized the opportunity to land another cut. As she withdrew her knife, she darted to the opposite side.
She grabbed the man she had rescued, "Don’t just stand there, let’s go!"
Just behind them was an alley, and without a second thought, Yunyi pulled him and dashed into it.
They had only run a few dozen meters before the remaining pursuers were hot on their heels. Yunyi grew anxious. Being caught by these people today could lead to endless trouble.
The pursuers were relentless. As Yunyi rounded a bend in the alley, she inadvertently spotted a gap diagonally ahead, one that had been left between two houses during their construction.
A thought sparked in her mind, and before the injured man could react, she shoved him into the gap. "I really don’t know who you’ve offended," she said, "but now I’m dragged into your mess."
She pushed him further inside briskly. "This is as far as I can help you. Whether you live or die is now up to your luck."
As their pursuers were about to turn the corner, Yunyi took off running. By the time they saw her, she had already turned another corner.
Due to the distance and the darkness in the alley, the pursuers couldn’t clearly see how many people had turned the corner ahead.
Yunyi intentionally led them far astray before darting into her hidden space at another alley entrance.
The group, having lost their target, couldn’t believe it.
They circled the area several times without finding anyone, cursing and grumbling for quite a while before leaving.
But these people were cunning, coming back to check several times before they finally gave up.
The man hidden in the gap between the two houses was extremely anxious. Unfortunately, weakened by his injuries, he was powerless to do anything.
Fortunately, not long after Yunyi led the men away, his people found him.
Before he could utter any instructions, he passed out from excessive blood loss.
In her hidden space, Yunyi saw that the men wouldn’t return and finally emerged, quickly leaving the area.
The people she had just encountered were none of her concern, and she wouldn’t dwell on them. Even if they manage to trace me, let them try to follow me to the countryside. That won’t be easy.
However, she would not forget the Shen Family’s attempt on her life. Tonight, I must teach Old Master Shen a lesson.
She caught the last bus and reached the vicinity of the Shen Family compound.
Following the address given by Gu Peiyan, she easily located the Shen Family home and didn’t linger at the front gate.
It wasn’t too late, and she didn’t want to cause unnecessary trouble. After all, the Shen Family was no small household; she had already seen people constantly coming and going in the courtyard.
After familiarizing herself with the surroundings, she found a secluded spot near the courtyard’s back gate. There, she entered her hidden space to rest and prepare for what was to come.
Inside the Shen Family’s outer study, Old Master Shen was practicing his calligraphy. After finishing his last stroke, he turned to the person standing below him and asked, "Any news yet?"
