CHAPTER 60: A WEEK OUT

I ended up bringing her back to the room with me but it resulted with the two of us sitting down near the window. It was a little awkward at first but I already got my rest for the night anyway.

I’d rather be up to make sure she doesn’t do anything suspicious too so this will just be the way for a few days. I was on guard when it came to Liora at first and even Shimada so this is just the procedure.

"I never really stayed at the inn here, it’s quite nice." Mizuki whispers softly.

"It’s a lot nicer than I would’ve thought for a town with no place on the map or the fact that it’s at the bottom of a crazy mountain." Artemis whispers back.

A lot of the stalls along the road seemed to be pretty nice as well but everyone was tired so it wasn’t worth stopping yet. Maybe on the way back through we can check them out, I’m not entirely sure though.

Theos has to be about a week or just a little over it away from us by now. The travel has been quite extensive but maybe I’m just getting ahead of myself here.

The next morning.

Sunlight began to light up the room slowly as Artemis and Mizuki waited for the others to wake up. It would be a brief explanation to everyone so that no one would get hurt in the process.

But he was already thinking about that most of the night after he brought her into the party. She didn’t really give off any sort of bad vibes so he was trusting his instincts on this one.

"Uhhh another new beauty!" Shimada shouts after catching a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eyes.

And it seems that Shimada is up before the others— Not like it’ll matter since he shouted which probably woke everyone else up to begin with.

I knew he wouldn’t have an issue with it since he loves women period but I’m more worried about how Amelia, Cynthia, and Liora will take it. They were all starting to get use to having one another in this party, or well I guess it would be Liora that they were getting use to.

Artemis goes through the introductions and introduces her to the party, most of the reactions seem to be pretty understanding for now. Liora was the only one who seems to be a little guarded about it compared to the others.

Cynthia and Amelia were weird for a moment before realizing that she could be a useful addition to the team.

I think it went a lot better than I could’ve imagined that they would take it, but now the important part.... We need to get back to traveling so that we can make it to Theos.

I’ve got no idea if Isabel will be there or not since she’s still got two other kingdoms that she can fall back on. That also doesn’t include any other towns, villages, or hideouts that they may have.

"With all that out of the way we should get going." Amelia suggests with a bit of excitement in her voice.

"I agree, we’ve got about a week left. Wasting time here isn’t the play." Cynthia chimes in.

It seems I didn’t even have to say anything to them since everyone is in agreement about what we’re doing now.

Thump. Thump. Artemis can hear his heart beating as if it picked up at an incredible pace all of a sudden. Banging like drums in his ears, something felt off.

Everything around him froze in place before it suddenly changes into the same field he’s seen in the dreams. The goddess was sitting in the distance, drinking her tea as usual.

"Didn’t think this was something I could do, right?" She asks before taking a sip.

This did catch me off guard since I haven’t seen her in quite some time but this also feels like something she would do. Artemis makes his way over to her and takes a seat like usual.

"It surprised me but what’s the point of this?" Artemis responds with a bit of confusion in his voice.

"So you are forgetting about your old life after all, I wasn’t wrong in thinking that." She says while completely ignoring his question.

This is about what I expected of her... She did something similar to this the last time I tried asking her something. If it’s not what she wants to talk about she’ll just ignore it as if I didn’t say anything.

Artemis just shakes his head before speaking. "I might be forgetting memories about my previous life but it’s fine, I don’t mind." Artemis replies with a calmness in his voice.

I’ve come to terms with the thought of forgetting everything that happened in my previous life. Even if it’s a slow burn of my memories, it might be for the best at the end of the day.

I’m living a completely different life here than I would’ve been living in my previous life. The world’s are also drastically different from one another so why would I bother focusing on it?

I died, simple as that.

"I like to think that’s what makes you special. You come from a completely different world with a different era of living than ours." She goes on as she continues to sip her tea.

Honestly I don’t think it matters to talk about my past life or to even consider anything with it. Even if this world is brutal, I’d rather be here in the long run.

"I won’t go on about it but Theos isn’t much further, don’t break the promise. Not that I care about a promise that you made." She says with a bit of a smile across her face.

"How do you know about that?" Artemis asks with more of a serious tone to his voice.

Everything disappears in an instant as he finds himself back in the room with the others. They all seem to be getting ready to go as he stares blankly at the wall.

That was quite the surprise, why would she do that all of a sudden?
