Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 327: Lindon
CHAPTER 327: LINDON
Alwin prevented Jacob from making a mana explosion when he was about to be executed. He had cast a spell in advance which prevented Jacob from using magic. This was why the trial and execution went well without any incidents.
With the execution over, Arabella and Ferdinand returned to the mansion, as Alwin went after the soul who escaped.
There was a ton of work to do so while catching up with work, they waited for Alwin to return. But even after two days, he did not come back. He had not contacted Ferdinand or Riley either.
Arabella was beginning to get worried. Meanwhile, her husband was all chill about it. Perhaps it was because he believed in Alwin’s abilities and trusted him.
But Alwin still had most of his limiters, what he could do here was still limited. What if there were other magicians waiting to ambush him?
"Ferdinand, do you think Alwin is alright? This is the longest he didn’t return quickly," she eyed her husband, and he simply smiled. Alwin usually only took hours or less.
"Don’t worry about him. That boy has a lot of pride. If that was indeed the soul that occupied Hayden, Alwin would not allow him to escape again. Alwin won’t return until he catches whoever it was," her husband assured her.
Ferdinand explained that Alwin had intentionally allowed the soul to leave Jacob’s body so he could follow where he would go. It was to learn his origins and know if he had a master or other allies. He must have gone quite far which was why Alwin wasn’t back yet.
’Right. Alwin doesn’t want to disappoint Ferdinand. He would only return with results.’
It was funny though how Ferdinand still thinks of Alwin as a brat or a boy quite often, but he gets jealous of him. Or was it because Alwin was still young that he gets jealous of him?
After another day, Alwin finally returned.
Arabella was wide-eyed when she noticed parts of Alwin’s clothes were singed and some were torn.
"Alwin! Are you alright? Did you get hurt? Did he have other allies?" Arabella scrutinized Alwin just in case.
Alwin seemed perfectly fine though, aside from his singed and torn clothes. He used magic to patch it up. He did not notice the condition of his clothes until Arabella pointed it out.
[She’s worried about me? I’m not that weak. Even if I get injured, I can heal myself.] Alwin was touched though since it had been a while since someone worried about his safety.
’Had all his elders forgotten he could still get hurt even if he’s a young talent with overwhelming abilities?’ Arabella once again wondered how they raised Alwin all these years.
"I’m fine, Your Majesty. We did have a fight for quite a bit, but I successfully caught him," Alwin had imprisoned the soul who had been in Hayden and Jacob’s bodies.
"I see. That’s a relief. And well done on catching him," Arabella beamed.
Alwin simply nodded. But he was acting somewhat embarrassed at getting praised in front of Ferdinand.
Her husband hadn’t praised Alwin much, so he was getting shy and likewise nervous about getting a word of praise in his presence.
[I wish, I was the one who chased after that soul. She would have been worried about me and that smile could have been directed at me.] Ferdinand sulked. He did not even notice Alwin’s reaction to being praised.
’Oh my, I smile at him a lot these days and we had just been intimate last night. Yet he’s still sulking because I gave Alwin a bit of praise,’ Arabella noted giving her husband more words of praise when she gets the chance to compliment him.
"Dear, you were right. There was nothing to worry about," Arabella stopped fussing over Alwin and redirected her attention to her sulking husband. She looped an arm around one of his to tell him she wasn’t forgetting about him at all.
Ferdinand finally smiled and asked Alwin for his report.
Alwin explained that the entity he chased was called Lindon.
After leaving Jacob’s body, Lindon escaped westward. He traveled from one kingdom to another until he reached the ports near the borders of Eliora and Fynnia. He took a rest there and then went to Fynnia the following day.
Alwin followed Lindon all the way to Fynnia and discovered the latter’s base. It was in a kingdom beside the heart of Fynnia.
He also learned that Lindon was a magician who specialized in arcane magic. He had reached the point that he was able to leave his body for long periods of time and only had to return when he needed to.
Lindon was already 86 which was why he usually left his body and occupied someone else’s. He leaves his senile body in the safety of his home. He still looked in his forties due to magic, but Lindon was keeping his body at home for safety purposes.
Lindon was living alone in his home, but Alwin was able to find traces of other people having visited his place. He had more accomplices.
Or rather, Lindon was merely following orders from someone else. Alwin found burnt letters at the fireplace and restored them. Lindon was receiving instructions regarding what to do.
Likely after Lindon reported what happened in Safiro, he received a letter telling him to leave Safiro alone in the meantime and eliminate the cause of why they had to stop gathering magic ores.
This meant Arabella was also Lindon’s target because she caused the situation in Safiro from changing. It was why Lindon found more people that had a grudge against her and used them to try to eliminate her.
Jacob was perfect for him since they also aimed to kill her. He didn’t need to kill Jacob to be able to occupy his body since their goals aligned. Hayden must have been against Lindon’s plans, so he eliminated the former before occupying his body.
