CHAPTER 834: CHAPTER 834: CONSUMED FOR PENITENCE

[I see... He has the air of a king. He must be the ruler of one of the territories here. To think there are places that would love to have twins like us in every birth and still consider it a blessing.]

Princess Seraphina was touched once again by Alvis’ words since he visibly genuinely liked the idea of having twins.

The princess was also able to tell from Alvis aura and demeanor that he was likely a ruler of a territory.

Arabella smiled and introduced Alvis, "He is Lord Alvis, His Eminence’s uncle."

[I see. No wonder they looked alike very much. But I thought they were simply siblings. Perhaps, there was a huge age gap between him and His Eminence’s father.]

Princess Seraphina and Emily found it hard to believe that Alvis was Alwin’s uncle.

Alvis had shown his face when he arrived at Crux so they needed an identity for him. However, it would be hard to make up another family and with such a powerful magician too so they just went with the truth that he was Alwin’s family.

As for Alvis’ title or territory, they chose to keep it a mystery.

After all, everyone who becomes the Master of the Magic Tower always had their family background a mystery.

Since this tower was made, all other previous masters of this tower never had their background revealed. Simply that, they always served the emperor and protected Valeria with their magic.

"Thank you very much for your words, Lord Alvis. It’s the first time I heard someone say it’s a blessing to have twins," Princess Seraphina said respectfully.

"Then I hope it makes you happy that I meant my words fully," Alvis responded.

[Their kingdom didn’t seem overpopulated to me for them to make up such beliefs about having twins.]

"It does, my lord," Princess Seraphina smiled.

Now that the war is over, as they have agreed upon, Prince Sebastian would be declared as the new ruler of Crux but as a Duke.

Princess Seraphina would be given her own territory in Crux and be given the title of Countess. She would also officially be an advisor to the Duke.

And with the two of them working for Crux’ future, the beliefs about twins being unlucky would soon change as Crux also evolves for the better.

"Oh, and my deepest gratitude to your lordship for protecting and saving our people from the undead and for healing our wounded," Princess Seraphina recalled the update from her brother.

"I just did it since Alwin’s barrier was protecting your side. And I just did it while avenging him."

’Uhm, Alwin’s not dead,’ Arabella wanted to say but shut it.

Since it was something he simply did out of anger, Alvis passed off his actions as if it was nothing important.

But in fact, it was something so major that made their victory in the war even faster and with lesser casualties among their allies.

The magicians who went to Duke Alba and Marquess Heron’s estates would have been heavily wounded if Alvis did not arrive.

And Alwin would have had to receive a lot more mana from Rendell and had to return there to prevent casualties while Zion retrieves weapons from Estrella to eliminate the undead.

The fight would have taken longer and it could have led to casualties but Alvis’ arrival turned everything in Valeria’s favor.

Just the earthquake he terrified and demoralized their enemies upon realization it originated from where he stood.

Alvis also caught the necromancers all on his own since he wanted to make them pay for making Alwin go this far.

However, the ones who shot the arrows to Alwin were already killed by the knights during the fight.

If those people were still alive, they would have chosen death rather than facing Alvis and Alwin’s other elders’ wrath.

Arabella could already imagine them hanging upside down while getting interrogated about where those arrows came from.

No, they would have been surely treated far worse judging at how all the Estrellians’ eyes darkened at the thought of Alwin getting injured for the first time.

They were all particular about finding where those arrows came from so magicians and knights were still scouring Crux together and checking all the workshops in Crux that specialized in weaponry.

It was because the arrows were anti-magic and were even mixed with poison that could kill even powerful long-lived races that almost had immunity to all poisons like Alwin.

If Alwin was not raised the way Ferdinand did, he could have died from that poison even with all his mana.

"Ah right, Princess. You know your own kingdom better than us," Alvis said to Princess Seraphina.

He showed one of the poisoned anti-magic arrows he had picked up from the battlefield.

"This poisoned arrow, do you recognize where it could have been made?" Alvis asked.

"Why are you touching it with your bare hand?" Arabella gasped. She was worried about the poison.

Blanca’s hand was burnt just from touching it and was poisoned by it too but Alwin was able to heal that bit since the poison did not spread yet.

[Wouldn’t he get poisoned too?!]

Even Princess Seraphina and Emily had turned pale at the sight since Emily had touched it as well when one hit her.

"Ah, please worry not, Your Majesty," Alvis smiled at Arabella but it didn’t reach his eyes.

Instead, there was deep sadness and sense of loss as he recalled all the comrades he had lost from this same poison.

"I’ve built enough resistance. I had been consuming the same poison used in this arrow for years in penitence for all the comrades I have lost from this. I have sworn to protect my kin from this and yet my own nephew and the others were almost hurt by this too," Alvis’ grip at the arrow tightened.

"C-consumed?!!" Arabella heard something even more shocking.

Arabella recalled Alwin’s behavior at times and wondered, ’Does this kind of extreme behavior run in the family?’

Princess Seraphina and Emily were not able to control their expressions as well and were gawking at Alvis, wondering how he was still alive.
