CHAPTER 836: CHAPTER 836: A LETTER FROM THE POPE

Alvis stared at Emily with a conflicted expression on his face.

He sighed deeply and said to Emily, "You took something very precious from my nephew. You better live a very long meaningful life to make it worth it."

"Y-yes, my lord. I will do my best to be useful. I am very much grateful for this second chance at life. And I’m sorry His Eminence was in this state because of me," Emily bowed and immediately apologized.

[I’m sure of what I felt at that time.

So much mana was used in one go even when he should have had that much anymore.

He used a mana core to somehow stop the poison.

And from what they said when I woke up, he used a total of two for me to recover.

Normal magicians spend years of practice to create even one mana core.

Yet he used two on me.

I could never repay him enough no matter what I do.

But I hope I can at least be useful in some way.

I cannot let his mana cores go to waste.]

Emily was riddled with guilt because she was still glad to be alive even despite the expense of two mana cores of probably the greatest magician she had encountered.

She felt guilty because normal magicians might be unable to use magic for a while or become completely unable to use magic after using their mana cores for something.

However, Alwin was far from normal and had more mana cores.

"Hmph.

He’s not in this state because of you.

Two mana cores is nothing.

He still has a lot more.

This happened because he was hard-headed and kept healing even though he’s relying on recovery potions for mana after getting worked to the bone like a transport system," Alvis harrumphed.

’Alwin was the one who volunteered to do the mass teleportation though,’ Arabella wanted to say.

She did not comment though since she knew Alvis simply did not want to make it look like his nephew was so weak as to fall sick just because of using up two mana cores (which is actually something major since some magicians only manage to make one).

[N-nothing? How can that be nothing? For him to use it on a battlefield, I knew he indeed had more. But just how many do they mean when by ’a lot more?’] Emily was stupefied.

Princess Seraphina who had also heard about it and had some knowledge about magic from Jacob and Emily also cannot help but wonder at how powerful Alwin and Alvis truly were.

Emily already knew from Riley that Alwin was ill from recovery potion overdose and pushing himself too hard.

Still, as a magician herself, Emily knew that using up two mana cores yesterday was a major contributory factor.

But since Alvis clearly did not want to admit it, Emily simply said, "R-right. Of course. His Eminence is so powerful after all."

"Of course he is," Alvis folded his arms over his chest. "Oh, the giant tree in the Alba Estate grew from Alwin’s mana and blood. Make sure to take good care of it. I have already asked the prince and two other people but it would be better to tell you two as well."

"Yes, my lord. We will take good care of it," Princess Seraphina and Emily said at the same time.

[That tree is such a mysterious thing.

Even if it was controlled by His Eminence, it was amazing how he was able to make it move so effortlessly as if it was part of his own body.

Jacob said Lord Alvis did as well.

Are these two even human?

The amount of mana they have shown so far is insane.

And both of them looked so ethereal and otherworldly.

Undead which we thought was mere myth was indeed true and appeared so terrifyingly yesterday.

What if other existences truly exist?

What if His Eminence and Lord Alvis are not humans?

They barely look like one.

They both looked like deities.

But would deities bleed?]

Emily was beginning to be suspicious of Alwin and Alvis’ crazy amounts of mana, divine beauty, and enigmatic aura of mystery about them.

[We indeed saw it grow from just a sprout to suddenly a full grown gigantic tree from where His Eminence’s blood dripped. And His Eminence manipulated it to stop the undead and protect us. It’s the first time I saw magic like that. Both Emily and Jacob said they could never do that.]

Princess Seraphina marveled at how it was possible for something like that to happen.

But after witnessing Alwin teleport thousands of people all at once, it was not hard to believe.

Especially after Alvis had caused an earthquake that shook all of Crux and was felt even in the neighboring kingdoms and as far as Riva.

’Oh my. They are beginning to notice things.’

Still, Arabella knew they did not need to worry since no matter what they concluded, they did not know the exact truth about the long-lived races anyway.

There had been rumors among older people that other beings exist but it was usually dismissed or forgotten after some time anyway.

Princess Seraphina and Emily then left and were teleported to Crux by one of the magicians in the tower.

Alvis and Dimo entered Dimo’s room and continued to watch over him.

Meanwhile, Arabella visited the rooms where the rescued Prudencians were.

She made sure everything was going well and checked how her assistants and maids were doing before she returned to the palace for work.

Arabella had just returned to her office when one of Raymond’s assistants delivered a letter for her.

"Your Majesty, you received a letter from the Pope," Raymond’s assistant said.

"The Pope?!" Arabella was surprised.

Why would the Pope send her a letter out of the blue?

Rendell received it and handed it to Riley who did Alwin’s usual task of inspecting and opening letters for her.

Arabella gulped nervously as she waited for the inspection to be over.

She never expected the Pope to write a letter to her since she never contacted him after the last time she saw him in Medeus.
