Reborn as a Tough Army Wife
Chapter 570 - 565: When Two Bitches Meet
CHAPTER 570: CHAPTER 565: WHEN TWO BITCHES MEET
"Are we still going to the hospital you mentioned?" Xu He was desperately trying to stall, "This is the train station, isn’t it a bit far from that hospital?"
"It’s not that far by car, and other hospitals might not be any nearer," Zhou Yunmei said, glancing at Xu He with suspicion, "Xu He, with all this evasiveness, are you hiding something from me?"
Feeling guilty, Xu He was startled by Zhou Yunmei’s words and instinctively replied, "What could I possibly hide from you? Fine, let’s go. I’ll just wash my face and brush my teeth, and we can head to the hospital."
After speaking, Xu He deliberately dallied, taking almost half an hour just to brush her teeth and wash her face, thinking about how she could avoid the examination at all costs. The best scenario would be to drag it out until they had to catch the train and wouldn’t have time to go to the hospital.
Finally, Zhou Yunmei completely lost her patience and dragged Xu He out of the door, carrying her belongings.
Zhou Yunmei was indeed clever. She was actually not familiar with the provincial city at all, and she had no clue which direction the hospital was in. However, she had earlier asked the staff at the guesthouse, and they told her to take the bus, involving a few transfers which she found confusing. So, she just hailed one of those tricycle motorcycles and quickly reached the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, while Zhou Yunmei went to register, Xu He excused herself, saying she felt unwell and needed to rest for a bit.
Xu He’s face was somewhat pale due to her overwhelming anxiety about the imminent check-up. Zhou Yunmei, seeing her genuinely appearing unwell, nodded and let her go, saying she would come to find her later.
But Xu He was not in the mood to rest at all. As soon as Zhou Yunmei wasn’t paying attention, Xu He went to ask where the gynecology department was, planning to see if she could bribe a doctor or something.
However, when Xu He approached a doctor to explain her intention, they immediately had a nurse escort her out.
This kind of matter, if exposed, would make the doctor liable for misconduct, and of course, they wouldn’t help her out without reason. It didn’t matter that Xu He hadn’t actually offered any money to secretly bribe the doctor; even if she had, the doctor didn’t know her and would definitely not assist her.
But as it happened, Xu He was in luck. While she was talking to the doctors about her request, Bai Jing just so happened to be in a room inside undergoing an examination.
Bai Jing was a nurse at this hospital and naturally knew all the doctors there. Furthermore, her aunt, Doctor Zhou, was the chief physician of this department, so Bai Jing was familiar with all the doctors in the gynecology department.
Bai Jing’s due date was next month, and she had come for a prenatal check-up today. When she heard Xu He speaking to the doctors outside, she instantly found it odd that someone would make such a request.
But after her examination was completed and she came out to see Xu He, there was a flash in her eyes.
Bai Jing hadn’t had any interaction with Xu He, but she had seen her before because she knew Luo Zhiming. She had seen Luo Zhiming with Xu He, yet she also knew that Luo Zhiming’s previous wife was Fang Xiu. It seemed that Xu He had come into the picture mid-way, probably akin to a homewrecker, so Bai Jing immediately judged Xu He as not a good person.
Furthermore, Xu He sneaking around, making such illicit requests to doctors, only solidified the impression that Xu He was definitely not a good person.
However, anyone not good for the Luo Family was good for Bai Jing.
She had always harbored resentment toward Fang Pingying, had mixed feelings of love and hate for Luo Zhiyong, and was lividly jealous about Fang Xiu being with Zhou Guangsheng. Bai Jing blamed everything on Luo Zhiyong and Fang Pingying, so she wouldn’t miss any opportunity to stir trouble for the Luo Family and bring problems to Luo Zhiyong and his clan.
She glanced at Xu He standing by the door, then called in a doctor she was on good terms with and whispered a few words, expressing that Xu He was her friend and asking the doctor to do her a favor and proceed as Xu He had requested.
Moreover, she added that Xu He was a country girl and would definitely not come here to give birth, so if the doctor made a mistake about a month of the due date it wouldn’t be a big deal and wouldn’t be something they’d be held accountable for.
Bai Jing said this and also slipped some money to the doctor.
Back then, the estimated due dates of pregnancies weren’t as precise as in later times. Being off by a month wasn’t something anyone would fuss about; it was quite normal for babies to be born prematurely or a bit late.
Having accepted Bai Jing’s favor, the doctor naturally didn’t mind playing the good Samaritan.
After making arrangements with the doctor, Bai Jing walked to the door, called Xu He over to a more secluded spot, and smilingly said to Xu He, "I can help you with your problem."
Xu He didn’t know Bai Jing at first and wouldn’t have followed her, but when she saw Bai Jing chatting and laughing familiarly with the doctor inside, she harbored a glimmer of hope that perhaps Bai Jing could help her.
Even though she felt that such thinking was illogical, she was desperate for any help she could find. She was ready to do anything if someone offered assistance.
Thus, she followed Bai Jing quite easily.
However, she was still somewhat cautious at heart. Upon hearing Bai Jing’s words, she asked with a wary face, "Who are you?"
Bai Jing replied indifferently, "Because of Luo Zhiyong, I’ve come to know Luo Zhiming. I’m aware you’re Luo Zhiming’s wife."
"Do you really want to help me?" Xu He, hearing her mention the names of the Luo Brothers, was convinced that Bai Jing knew them, but she still found it hard to believe that she could be so lucky to have stumbled upon such a good Samaritan.
Bai Jing smiled at her and said softly, "Don’t worry. I’m a nurse at this hospital. Your issue isn’t a big deal. Just one word from me, and I can solve it for you."
Hearing this, Xu He was overjoyed and nodded repeatedly.
But Xu He still had some wits about her. She knew there was no such thing as a free lunch in this world. Bai Jing couldn’t possibly help her for no reason. After her initial joy, she voiced her suspicion, "So, what do you want from me?"
"What do you think you could give me?" retorted Bai Jing with a mocking smile upon hearing the question. "I just feel sympathy since we’re both women and maintaining a household isn’t easy, so I thought I’d help you out."
Of course, Bai Jing wouldn’t help Xu He for nothing, but at the moment she couldn’t think of what Xu He could do for her. She merely knew that having Xu He owe her a favor might come in handy in the future.
Her dealings with Fang Pingying and Luo Zhiyong were far from over; Xu He could be useful sooner or later.
Xu He felt somewhat embarrassed by Bai Jing’s sarcastic words, her face immediately blushed, "I..."
After all, having spent some time in the city, Xu He could tell someone’s status, and it was clear that Bai Jing, even though pregnant, was meticulously dressed and carried herself with grace, obviously not on the same social level. Why would someone like Bai Jing covet anything from her?
