With a soft rush of energy, Yaeger placed her pale, slender hands into the surface of the water. A surge of vibrant green life energy began flowing from her palms, steadily infusing into the water.
Angelica’s eyes widened as a faint green glow spread through the buckets. Her surprise was brief—she had come to expect miracles from Yaeger.
‘She’s putting in so much effort for people who have nothing to do with her. Princess really is noble… truly amazing.'
In her mind, Yaeger now resembled one of the legendary goddesses she had once heard about in stories.
‘Those rumors must all be false. There’s no way someone like her could be cruel or cold-hearted.'
“All done.” Yaeger pulled her hands back and let out a quiet breath.
The two buckets now glowed softly with a verdant light, radiating a gentle warmth that refreshed the spirit.
“So beautiful…” Angelica, despite bracing herself for something incredible, was still overwhelmed by what she saw.
“They’ll remain stable for about two hours. Not bad.” Yaeger nodded, then placed her hand into the third bucket and repeated the process. With the previous effort as reference, the process went much faster this time. In under fifteen seconds, the third bucket was fully charged with energy.
“Bring them in.”
“Got it!” Angelica nodded, hurried out the door, and called for Micha and the others.
The moment they saw the glowing buckets, their mouths fell open in disbelief. “This is holy water! It has to be!” Micha exclaimed, unable to contain his excitement. The two priests immediately dropped to their knees, eyes turned upward in reverent awe.
“Praise the Goddess! Thank Her for this miracle!”
Angelica couldn’t help feeling a little sour at their words. ‘What does this have to do with the Goddess?'
Yaeger, however, didn’t seem to mind. “Drink it and see for yourselves.” She filled two glasses with the glowing water and set them down before them.
Without the slightest hesitation, both clergymen stood and eagerly downed the contents of their glasses.
‘Religious types really are a handful,’ Yaeger thought, watching them respond with such blind faith. It was clear they would blindly trust anything they believed was tied to their faith.
‘The Church of Light and the Holy Empire from the Central Continent are both troublesome. Luckily, I don’t have to confront them just yet.' Yaeger let out a quiet sigh of relief and turned her attention back to the priests.
Thin trails of black mist began rising from their bodies as the Star Spots on their skin gradually faded. The purification process was clearly slower than when she applied acupuncture directly.
After about a minute, the virus had been completely purged from the two clergymen, whose symptoms were relatively mild.
“It’s a miracle! No, a divine miracle!”
“I’m cured! Truly cured! Praise the Goddess!”
The two looked at one another, their faces glowing with a mixture of shock and pure joy.
Once they had calmed down a bit, Yaeger stepped forward and spoke.
“Take these buckets downstairs and distribute the water to the patients. Then bring back at least a dozen more.”
“Understood, Lord Angel,” Micha replied with reverence.
After they left with the buckets, Angelica quietly shut the door and turned the lock. “Princess, I feel really sorry for you.” She turned and pouted as she looked at Yaeger.
“It’s nothing. I don’t mind,” Yaeger said, waving her hand dismissively. What really mattered to her was whether she could eventually take over the entire Empire. Everything else was secondary.
‘No one is going to ruin my XP farm.' Her generosity was just a calculated move for her own benefit. If the whole field was barren, what was the point in owning the land?
If Angelica ever realized her true motives, she might… No, even if she did know, Angelica probably wouldn’t mind.
Inside the church… Micha, the priest, displayed his talent for persuasion. With flowery praises to the Goddess and claims of divine blessing, he nearly had everyone convinced.
When the patients saw that he was completely healed and free of Star Spots, all doubt vanished. Cheers broke out, and a near-riot erupted as people scrambled to get their share of the holy water.
Thankfully, Micha’s presence carried weight. With a firm command, the crowd fell silent. The previously cured clergymen relaxed at the sight, their concerns beginning to fade. They had worried the crowd might turn violent, leading to disaster.
“Now, behold the divine miracle. Praise the Goddess!” Micha raised his arms and proclaimed with zeal. As soon as he spoke, one of the clergy helped a gravely ill patient up and gave him the glowing water to drink.
The room fell silent. Every pair of eyes moved from Micha to the patient, waiting for the miracle to happen.
The man swallowed deeply, his throat rising and falling with each gulp. The water passed down smoothly, its warmth spreading through his body. A wave of cleansing energy surged through him, purging the infection from within.
Moments later… Wisps of black mist seeped from his skin as the Star Spots began to vanish.
“A divine miracle!”
“It really is a miracle!”
No one knew who cried out first, but soon the room echoed with shouts of astonishment and praise. All the hopelessness and dread from earlier vanished in an instant. Every heart overflowed with awe and excitement, their eyes ignited by newfound hope.
“Praise the Goddess!”
“Praise the Goddess!”
Their voices repeated in waves, filling the church with overwhelming devotion and fervor.
“As expected… they’re dangerous,” Yaeger murmured to herself while watching from a distance.
“What’s dangerous, Princess?” Angelica asked, blinking in confusion.
“The virus. That’s what I meant,” Yaeger replied quickly, covering the truth.
“That’s true. It almost destroyed our village,” Angelica agreed with a solemn nod.
“Let’s head upstairs. The priests can take care of things down here now.”
With that, Yaeger turned and walked away from the main hall. Angelica followed right behind her.
Fifteen minutes later, every last trace of the virus had been eradicated from the more than three hundred patients. The suffocating despair that once filled the church was gone, replaced by joyous celebration.
“Lord Angel…” Micha stepped into the clergy’s quarters, ready to speak, but Yaeger cut him off.
“We’re not finished. I still need your help with the aftermath of the plague.”
“You have my full cooperation,” Micha said, containing his excitement.
“Take these fifteen buckets. Let five be used for drinking, and use the rest to disinfect anything the infected may have touched.”
Yaeger wasn’t sure how long the virus could survive outside the body, and there was no reliable way to test it. So she took the safest route—precaution and containment.
‘Once they drink the water, reinfection is almost impossible. Outsiders are the real risk now.'
“Even though the plague is ending, keep the village closed for a few more days. Don’t let anyone from outside in,” Yaeger advised.
“Yes, Lord Angel. I’ll see to it immediately,” Micha responded with conviction.
‘Let’s hope nothing goes wrong.' A quiet sense of foreboding stirred in Yaeger’s chest.
