Shi Lingyan grinned.

Shi Lingyan walked beside her and suddenly asked, "Where are we going now?"

"It’s been a long time since I’ve seen ’T Clean’ and Insect. Let’s go, back home."

Shi Lingyan had no objections. After the two got into the car, Shi Mei felt overwhelmed, when suddenly her phone in her pocket rang—it was Gao Lian.

Picking up the phone, Shi Lingyan also glanced over and vaguely noticed the character "Gao".

His brows and eyes slightly deepened, and he looked at her with a hint of resentment and warning.

Shi Mei couldn’t help but laugh and put the phone on speaker, "Hello."

Gao Lian’s end was somewhat noisy; from the sound of it, he was probably at the police station.

Gao Lian, "Shi Mei, the matter you asked me to check, I’ve found something, but this case is related to two other cases, and it might require you to come to the site to assist with the investigation."

"On-site?"

"Yes, back to Yan City," Gao Lian’s voice carried a bit of seriousness, "I know you’re studying in Imperial City now, but these cases are quite urgent. Could you come back to Yan City?"

Shi Mei glanced at Shi Lingyan, then at the date, "It’s Friday today, yes, I can."

Gao Lian seemed to have exhaled in relief, "Then will you come to Yan City tomorrow? Do you need me to pick you up?"

"No need," Shi Lingyan’s voice had a tinge of sullen displeasure, "My woman, I can take care of her."

There was a moment of surprise on Gao Lian’s end upon hearing another man’s voice, followed quickly by a laugh, "Alright then, you two come tomorrow. It’s good that you’ll be there too; I won’t have to call you then. What time will you arrive?"

"Before noon," Shi Mei said.

"Okay," Gao Lian shrugged, "There’s no one else around you, right? It’s best not to let others find out. Just to be safe, don’t come to the police station tomorrow either. Pick another discreet place."

"Why?" Shi Lingyan’s voice sounded unhappy.

Gao Lian teased, "To steal your spotlight."

Shi Lingyan snickered.

Gao Lian laughed out loud, "For safety, choose a place you frequent that won’t raise suspicion, then just send me the address."

"Sure," Shi Mei replied, "see you tomorrow at noon."

"Right." Gao Lian acknowledged and after saying he had to go attend to something, he hung up.

Shi Mei put her phone aside and saw Shi Lingyan’s face, which looked as if he had been owed a lot of money. Full of playful intent, she leaned forward to touch his face, "Jealous?"

Shi Lingyan leaned into her palm with a low hum.

"Oh my," Shi Mei laughed, pinching his face, "There’s really nothing between Officer Gao and me, why worry so much?"

"I know," Shi Lingyan said indifferently, "It’s nothing."

Shi Mei leaned towards his face, puckering her lips and gave him a light peck, "There you go, let’s drive back now."

Shi Lingyan’s expression turned somewhat awkward, pretending to be angry, "You think you’re placating a child?"

Shi Mei laughed loudly, "Yes, yes, you’re not a child, let’s go."

Shi Lingyan, looking at her smile, couldn’t help but pounce towards her, wrapping his arms around her, his head coming down to nibble on her lips.

Shi Mei blinked, the laughter in her eyes undeniable, as she inclined her face to respond to him.
