Reborn as the bastard son of a Duke
Chapter 60: Mid-term Exams (3)
CHAPTER 60: CHAPTER 60: MID-TERM EXAMS (3)
Not long after professor Seraphim came back and stood at the podium once again.
"Now it’s time for your second exam." She said.
Seraphim then placed the remote she used before on her desk, her calm gaze was sweeping across through the whole class.
"Okay, since you now understand what is the structure of these exams." She said, "We’ll be starting the second phase of this exam, the mana application."
The air in the whole room was starting to change with several other instructors began to enter the classroom, they all were B-rank awakened and they were there all here as the assistant’s.
One of the other instructors waved his hand, that’s when a dome made of light was forming around the class.
This server as an isolation space which created ten glowing zones, they were marked by sigils made of circles on the floor.
Each of these sigils had unique elements that were carved into it, this was tailored to the elements they had.
"Each of you will enter a sigil, and it will resonate with your elemental affinity," Seraphim instructed them. "What your about to do is channel your mana and you have to maintain the stability for as long as possible. You must use control, precision, and quality that’s the key to this phase."
Seraphim looked at the whole room once more, a bit more assertive now. "If you lose your focus, then the mana backlash you’ll get will be painful."
That statement made them gulp, especially Duke who had beads of sweat forming.
And that’s when the test began.
Finn what the one to step forward first and his hands were crackling with lightning mana.
Those sparks were dancing around him, and they formed into a web if energy as he started to grit his teeth while trying to stabilize those volatile arcs.
The glow of blue would expand resulting with a thunderclap echoing through the whole dome.
Seraphim just rose her brows slightly. "Hm, Good control. A bit rough, but it has a strong output."
The next one to come was Grace, having dual affinities for both wind and fire made the space around her to swirl with strong waves.
She then spun her hands outward, this was started to form into a tornado that was wreathing with flames.
Her control wavered just for a moment, the wind would nearly snuff her whole fire out, but grace clenched her jaw focusing more intently and this brought them into harmony once again.
"Hm, she has promising synergy." The other instructors nodded.
Followed next was Selena, her lightning and water mana began to form around here like ribbons.
She the traced her fingers through the air, this created a shimmering sphere which discharged bolts of electricity into the water vapor that was around her.
"Okay now that’s just showing off." Duke gave a low whistle.
Selena just smirked and didn’t even look at him. "Like you’ll be able to do better."
Even was next, she was gracefully stepping onto her own circle. Her elements being ice and wind, they were resonating beautifully around her.
The frost was spiraling around her feet and she guided it upward. It was like an elegant and crystalline storm. The control she had was clean and gentle.
That’s when the first dispersed softly just like falling petals, this earned approving murmurs.
Brad came next, unlike other he was displaying absolute power. The ground beneath him was cracking and fiery energy and earth started to collide, this formed a layer of magma-like rock.
This was his raw power that was making the barrier tremble, but it still lacked refinement.
"Overwhelming power, but it’s still unstable. You need control, Brad." Seraphim said and she noted something down on her clipboard.
Ivy stepped in next silently. Flames and darkness was starting to pour out her like they were living shadows, her twi elements were starting to intertwine to a sinister like beauty.
Her fire wasn’t burning bright, instead it was smoldering cold and also heavy. Having an obsidian like color. Some of the wary instructors just took a step back.
"That’s quite the unique manifestation," Murmured Seraphim.
Duke was calm, he had confident and a bit nervous. And he brought forth his light and water mana.
It flowed like a silver river, which was smooth and unwavering. This combination was radiant, it let out a soft purifying glow which was spreading throughout the whole area.
"You have good balance unlike your personality." Seraphim said softly. ’As expected he has good instincts when it comes to mana’ she thought to herself.
Selena just rolled eyes. "Hmph, that’s good I guess."
Duke said with a playful grin. "Jealousy doesn’t suit you sis."
The last one to come to the test was Adam.
When he stepped onto his own sigil, the temperature in the room started to shift.
The other instructors were instinctively tense, though they couldn’t tell why. They knew he wasn’t normal to begin with.
Unlike the others his mana was calm and perfectly restrained mostly due to the power of his physique that gave him a stable flow of mana.
Yet it was still carrying a sense of depth and intense pressure that was making the air feel even heavier.
He started to whisper around his breath. "Let’s crank this up a little."
That sigil that was beneath him would expand unnaturally, it was bending as the edges around it had faint distortions that were rippling through the air.
The temperature there was near freezing but there wasn’t any frost forming, he was in control of his own mana.
Adam extended one hand and that was when space warped Infront of him. An ice shard would appear that was suspended mid-air, it was floating in perfect stillness.
The other instructors were speechless, but Seraphim had a proud look on her face.
Her lips would curve faintly. "Good level of precision..." She murmured. "We always knew you were something, but this much refinement isn’t what you’d except from a C rank even one at the peak of it."
Grace just scowled, she crossed her arms. "He’s always so composed... I hate that."
Eve just giggled. "Haha, you say that. But I saw you were mesmerized by his performance. I guess you got closer through those spars you both had."
Grace just turned away with a huff, her face burned slightly red. "Hmph!"
And with that the second exam ended, Seraphim just clapped her hands once.
"Good work everyone, that’s the end of the test. You all have shown a lot of improvement since you first arrived here. And now..." She paused a bit, building up he tension. "You should prepare yourselves for the final phase. You are going into a gate for the first time, I know your used to dungeons but like I said before gates are different."
That whole room would fall silent.
"Everyone rest well today," she said. "Because tomorrow, you’ll be facing against class A in the gate exploration. And remember this, a gates difficulty changes its nature. You should be ready for anything."
They then began to disperse, all of them were a bit tired from the tests.
Their had expressions that was a mix of excitement and also anxiety.
Adam though, remained still just for a moment. His gaze a bit distant and his mana slowly settled.
"I feel like somethings changing inside me... but I don’t know what."
He dismissed his thoughts and also started walking, but this feeling was still around that something big was about to happened but he couldn’t understand it yet.
Adam immediately went back to his room after that and was busy preparing for things for the gate exploration tomorrow, he had an uneasy filling so he decided to e prepared as much as he can.
"Phew I should check my status now, Status."
Over the past four months Adam grew stronger and participated in guild missions and earned a lot of Xp and system points he was just saving them up.

"My stats have increased drastically, and I have ammased a total of sp points."
Adam was around of his current progress, he was at the peak of C rank and can feels like he can go to the next rank soon since the mana within him has built up so much.
It was also due to unlocking a new trait of his dragon god physique a few months back, his body was overflowing with mana but still couldn’t access the rest that’s why there was a ’[+???]’ next to his total mana.
"Tomorrow, this will be enough preparations for tomorrow I won’t use my system points yet cause who knows what will happen tomorrow at the gate." Adam said that to himself.
He had an uneasy feeling ever since the mid-term exams started, it was his dragon instincts telling him that something wasn’t right.
And soon he’ll know, just how right he was.
