Reborn as the Failed Lord with my Resource Gathering System.
Chapter 188: Let me bear your child.
CHAPTER 188: LET ME BEAR YOUR CHILD.
Dorian sat at the edge of the bed, a small table in front of him where he had placed a wide sheet of parchment, meant to be the blueprint he was currently working on.
Toward the side, very close to him, Lili was assisting him in her human form, meticulously arranging the stack of papers so he wouldn’t lose track of anything.
Still, despite Lili being obviously closer to him, nothing bothered him more than Revina.
She was still kneeling at his side, her gaze fully focused on him with an intensity that was both flattering and unnerving. She was so still, so unwavering, that Dorian was certain she hadn’t blinked in a couple of minutes.
He wanted to ask so badly—or at least pick up a conversation to avoid the awkwardness already growing thick in the air—but every time he tried to say something, Raphael would give him yet another complex instruction pertaining to the blueprint he was putting together.
Just when it seemed like things could not get anymore awkward, Revina finally decided to break the silence with a question of her own.
"Dragon Monarch. Would you like to have a baby with me?" she asked, as calmly as though she had asked for a cup of water or help with a trivial matter.
The question had Dorian completely spooked, causing him to immediately snap his head in her direction. Judging from the serene, expectant look on her face, he was certain she was dead serious.
"I think I misheard you. Could you repeat that?"
"I said I would like to have your baby."
Hearing it a second time proved he didn’t mishear the first. It was truly what she said, and she was damn near serious about it.
Dorian managed to still keep the fake, crumbling smile on his face, his mind a total whirl in that moment.
[Notice: Your heart is racing more than usual.]
He ignored the system.
"Why would you want me to do that? Isn’t it normal for you to get married to another, more powerful noble as a King in order for your kingdom to grow?"
Revina tilted her head to the side, genuinely confused. "What other noble could be more powerful than you, Dragon Monarch?"
Dorian flinched a bit at the question.
Now that he thought of it, what was the possibility that he was truly the strongest person in the entire kingdom, not to speak of the whole world?
He sighed.
There was no use fighting it.
He knew a day would come where she would ask something identical to this; he just didn’t think it would be this soon, or be about him giving her a child specifically.
"Why exactly do you want me to be the one bearing your child? And you better not give me some BS like it’s because I am the Dragon Monarch. Only the person you truly love should be the one you give a child to."
Still carrying her usual look, she replied, "But I do love you. As an elf, I can tell when I have found my soulmate. You are that soulmate, Dragon Monarch."
She continued, her voice dropping lower, more serious.
"As for your other question... I fear that the witch will be coming back for you once she has recovered from the injury I gave her. If I am able to bear your child, I will give birth to the Child of Becoming, a being capable of controlling the gods—which of course includes the witch herself."
Dorian’s expression turned serious. He should have figured it would be something that would lead to this.
"What is the Child of Becoming? And how certain are you that you would be the one to birth it?"
He had a lot of questions, but starting with this was the most logical.
Revina lowered her gaze as she responded.
"My father told me the history. And of the history, he always mentioned the Child of Beginning, a child born from the seed of the Dragon Monarch. It was said every woman wanted to bear his child, but he would always tell them the Child of Beginning could appear in any of them if he were to sleep with them. He said he never wanted them to feel pain, as he felt they were too quick to bear the burden."
’This Dragon Monarch guy sounds like something straight out of Greek mythology or something,’ Dorian thought to himself, assessing every word she spoke.
[My knowledge on the Dragon Monarch is limited right now. Would you like me to perform a deep search? It would take a couple of days to access.]
Dorian sighed internally. ’Sure. That will be helpful.’
Right after, Revina’s voice echoed again. "I am not sure if I will be the one to bear the Child of Becoming. But the enemy is near, far nearer than we think. I wish for us to take care of this matter before all else."
Dorian stared at her for a while. Her seriousness was quite alarming.
"If it’s to bear my child, then I do not oppose that. But it can’t be now. Until I have completed my task in the Red District and I already have the Duke title to myself, I cannot do anything of the sort."
A smile formed on Revina’s face. "You mean it?" She leaned forward, obviously excited.
"Of course. You’re quite beautiful. Why would I miss the chance to have sex with you? Especially since I can just make you my wife in the process."
Revina’s eyes glowed with joy almost instantly, her face turning mildly red. To think just a few moments ago, Dorian was questioning her as to why she would want to marry him, and now he was saying this?
It took a moment for Lili to catch up to the conversation, having been diligently organizing papers just seconds before.
When the implications of what Dorian had just agreed to fully registered, she dropped the stack of blueprints onto the table with a loud thwack.
"Master, you cheater."
"The hell?! I did-"
Before he could talk, Lili lifted the papers once more from the table and stretched them close to his face, effectively blocking his view of Revina.
"You left me to do all the work by myself! You cheater!"
