Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 112: Ch 113: So, what do you want? - Part 1
A week passed without Layla having realized it.
The work from her new store, her studies, and her duties kept her busy enough that she had no time to think of anything else to do.
In the meantime, she needed to unpack and care for a lot, and her attention span had deteriorated in a few days.
"Mary, can you send me the sales report from our store? How is it doing?"
Layla asked in a tired voice as she did some paperwork. After this, she needed to complete her school assignments and do more research.
This would not have been so time-consuming if she had a fixed place to browse all the information. But there is no shared archive at the moment.
People were too afraid that others would steal their ideas and make them their own to think of and implement such a thing.
"Our shop is doing amazing right now. There were a few hiccups at the start since many people did not like our equal approach, but it has been lessening these days. We will have all our local customers sorted out in a few days."
Mary's words brought some peace to Layla's mind. At least one place was out of trouble for now.
"Good! That makes me feel relieved. Now, we shall move on to the next topic that we need to focus on - the orphanage. Did you hear anything back from the temple?"
Layla asked as she continued to fill out her paperwork.
It was deadly boring, and she wanted to hand it over to someone else. However, since Magic checked the paperwork for authenticity, Layla could not have anyone else fill it out.
Otherwise, the contract magic on the parchment would become void, and no one could use it anytime soon.
"Don't worry about that, Miss Layla. I have sent Raizel to the temple to get the required permit. I am sure he will be back any second now."
Mary assured Layla, but for some reason, her words made Layla frown. There was a weird restlessness inside Layla that she could not explain about.
"You sent Raziel? Can you go after him and bring him back? Somehow, I have a bad feeling about what will happen."
Layla would have liked her weird feeling to be just a coincidence. But she had a sudden feeling that it was not the case.
Mary looked a little taken aback by Layla's request, but as ever, the demon decided not to ask questions, and she left.
"Of course, miss! Your wish is my command. I will go and bring Raziel back as soon as I can."
Mary left quietly, and Layla rubbed her forehead in a pained manner.
She felt she was about to get entangled in something troublesome, but Layla could not remember why.
"I should finish my paperwork as quickly as possible. I also have that combat exam coming up. I better cram for it and learn the terrain for it."
Layla opened the book but could not concentrate for the rest of the lesson.
In the end, Layla slams her book close and decides to take care of things later. She just needed to calm her nervous self right at the moment.
...
"Hurry up and catch that kid! He has those important documents we need. Once we have him, we will become rich."
Raziel's persuader yelled as he picked up his pace. Along with that man, a few more people came after him, making Raziel bite his lip in agitation.
He was half-minded about confronting these people and caring for them, but Raziel hesitated. He did not want to cause any trouble for his owner.
He hid the documents and waited until the small group passed him.
He did not come out until he was sure it was safe to do so. Then, he walked a few steps and took a secret path.
But just as he was about halfway through, he felt a presence heading his way.
Raziel tightened his grip on the knife he was holding, and he got ready to attack his opponent as he saw their silhouette.
But it turned out that there was no need for Raziel to be this alert since his would-be attacker was Mary.
"You were late, so young miss sent me to come and get you. Since you decided to take this secret route, I assume that someone was chasing after you? I did not realize someone had the guts to come after us like this. I have to say that I am impressed.
So, do you know who those people were and what they wanted from you?"
Mary asked as she looked at the kid in front of her.
"They wanted these documents with permissions. The attackers did not say much; they just made demands and asked me to hand over whatever papers I had on my person."
Raziel pointed out that he had brought those papers out as well. They were sealed for now, meaning that Raziel had managed to keep them safe.
"I see! It looks like someone leaked our information from the temple's side. In that case, you should head back now. I will catch up with those attackers and make them confess what they know. I am sure those people would entertain me a lot."
Mary's smile was scary, and Raziel took a few steps back to avoid getting scared.
"Have a good time and be careful. I will go and guard our young miss in the meantime."
Raziel promised before quickly running back toward the Duke's castle where Layla was. Mary waited for him to leave before her eyes moved toward her next target, hidden in the shadows.
"You might as well come out now. Hiding after being found is not a good idea. I might do something that would make you regret your actions."
Mary warned, and the hidden man finally stepped outside his hiding zone. He had a mask on his face, and his clothes also looked funny.
But that was not what attracted Mary's attention.
"You are a demon and a high-rank one at that. So, what do you want from my master's papers?"
