Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 115: Ch 116: Making Enemies - Part 2
"Are you ready to spill the beans behind who did this? If you are a good boy, I might let you go."
Mary looked at her knocked-out victim with a slightly hooded expression, but as expected, there was no result.
And why would there be when the person she was interrogating had already lost consciousness? And he was not the only one who did so either.
Anyone Mary had touched or tried to interrogate had ended up losing their mind and either wanted to take themselves out or had lost consciousness.
This resulted from a spell cast on these people, but it was too late to reverse the spell when it was discovered.
"We should stop now. Shall we take them all back so that we can get someone to take a look at them?"
Raziel asked as he dropped another person in the pile Mary had interrogated and knocked out.
The senior maid cared for everyone around her alone, and she did not need his help. But the kid still wanted to do something since sitting around like this was useless.
So Raziel had taken it upon himself to gather all the knocked-out people and hold them close.
"Aww, I wanted to play more. But you are right! We should head back now and hand these kids over to the guards. They will take care of them for us."
Mary's cheerful words did not match her blooded hands or did it match her blood-trusty expression.
Raziel wisely chose not to say anything as he followed after her, and they went back.
"Warden, we have more fodder for you. These people tried to attack us and take our orders from us. You can do whatever you want to do to them. Just extract the information behind their contractor."
Mary dropped the dozen or so criminals who attacked her and Raziel.
The warden looked at Mary from behind his unmanaged hair, sighed, and then closed his book with an annoyed expression.
"Fine! I will help you out. But only because it's you, and I don't want to hear you bitch and whine about unfairness later."
The warden stood up, and his decent height suddenly looked massive.
He was a bulky man with a towering frame of over 8 feet. The only things that gave away his inhuman nature were the slight crookedness of his mouth and the extra-large pupils in his eyes.
"Come on, Warden! Put your half-orc strength to use and toss these people in the back. I will be back for them in the morning."
Mary assured before she skipped past him and the other guards.
The warden made a pained noise before he turned to look at Raziel with that expression.
"Are you new, kid? Well, good luck keeping up with her. Mary is too much, even for us wardens, who are all half-humans. I pity you, who is stuck with her, and I also pray for your sanity."
The warden spoke, and Raziel felt a shiver go down his spine for the first time.
But he controlled his expression and did not show it as he nodded and went after Mary quickly.
...
Layla sighed at the broken door in front of her before deciding what to do for the night.
The best action would be to sleep in the guest room while requesting that this food be repaired. But there was a problem - Layla did not know where the guest rooms were.
She had not taken the chance to explore this mansion and the places it had. She had just relied on Mary to show her around for the most part.
"The lack of maids shows that this door was knocked down deliberately. Now, shall I start looking for the one who did this?"
Mary asked as she cracked her knuckles before walking outside the corridor.
She could feel a few energy signals just around the corner, and just as Layla expected it - she found the maid she had been looking for.
"How long have you been here for? Come here and help me out."
Layla called out to the maid, but she was slightly shaking and did not stop in the corridor.
Layla was usually patient, but this was beginning to get on her nerves now.
"I-I am sorry, but Master Henry has banned us from entering that corridor. I-I apologize! I cannot help you here."
The maid was quick to apologize before she bolted from the corridor. She was probably afraid of Mary more than she was sorry about what was happening to Layla.
Layla watched that maid dash the exit with a blank look before her expression smoothened out.
"So, Henry was behind this? I always assumed that harmless pranks like these were not his forte. Was I wrong about him?"
Layla wondered while she entered her room to grab all the essential items she would need for the night before heading out.
She immediately ran into Mary and Raziel. The pair had taken their sweet time but were finally back from the errand sent out to run.
"Young Miss, the door-"
Raziel asked, and Layla sighed.
"I know! Don't ask! I don't know who did this, but I am sure everyone else had a hand. Mary, I need you to show me to a guest room and call for repairs tomorrow. Seal this room even harder tonight and keep an eye on it."
Layla ordered her maid, who understood the assignment.
Reconnecting her door was a small matter, and Layla could have done it herself. But she decided to call a professional to do this for only one reason—to let this news reach the Duke.
As small as this matter was, it was still connected to the Duke's manor and security. The Duke would have no option but to give Layla the authority, or he would investigate himself to find out what had happened.
No matter the outcome, Layla did not care as long as she got the authority she needed.
As for her young age, is it a barrier? She did not think it mattered to the Duke, who only looked at results and nothing more.
