Reborn as the Villain in a Romance Fantasy
Chapter 172: Ch 172: The base of the Rebellion - Part 1
The base of the rebellion was tense. For the first time in forever, everyone seemed to be present and looking forward to their guest's arrival.
Most people looked nervous and ready to break down, but just as many looked at the door with eager expressions.
"Oi, boss! Are you sure it is right for us to wait here? What if this is a trap that the bastard Minister devised to catch all of us? Won't we all be in trouble if that were to happen?"
One of the people who were waiting around asked in a serious voice. He had been the voice of reason for the rebellion for a long time, so it made sense why he asked this question.
He was just trying to keep everyone safe.
But the rebellion could not count on safety. They needed to act and make this a safe space for everyone.
"Don't worry! It will be fine. Even if there are rumors about this place being the rebellion's hide-out, as long as we don't say anything about it, no one would officially know about it and have the authority to be able to do anything.
As for the reason we all gathered? This is because of how important this situation is to us. We might never get such a huge opportunity to mess with Minister Calam and the Imperial powers again."
The boss spoke in a defiant voice. He was confident about his words, and his subordinates also knew why.
Minister Calam had angered another noble on par with him for the first time.
The young girl, Duke Lockhart's ward, was a charming person. No one knew what she had done to get on the minister's bad side (except for being related to the Duke somehow), but the minister had taken offense and decided to cause trouble for her.
That had pushed the young girl to seek them out. And now was the time for them to meet.
"I don't think this is safe. This still feels like a trap to me. Since you insist on taking a chance, I want to humor you. Just don't regret this in the future."
The voice of reason spoke before he fell quiet. They all waited, and the front door finally opened.
Raziel stepped inside first, and seeing the twelve-year-old boy holding himself up regally made the people straighten their backs and pay attention to him.
But he was not the reason they were all gathered here. They waited for the second person to enter the room, and their eyes widened in shock as soon as they fell on a six-year-old girl who stopped after entering the room before she gave a small bow.
"My name is Layla, the ward of Duke Lockhart. Thank you for accepting my request and meeting me here. Now, shall we get to the important stuff?"
Layla asked in a serious voice, and for a whole minute, no one knew what to do about this situation.
From the rumors and Raziel's words, they knew Layla was young, but no one had expected her to be 'this' young. Just what could a size-year-old realistically do? Most people could not even take them seriously.
"We are doomed! This is the child we have all been betting our future on? If so, we might surrender to the Minister and the Imperial Power now."
Someone spoke, and as if a wave had started because of that, everyone else started to talk and express their disappointment as well.
It left Layla in the middle of these people, and everyone looked at her with a harsh and judging eye.
Had she not been used to it, she might have felt nervous about being the center of attention like this. But because she was used to it and did not mind people looking at her like this, Layla stood straight and showed off an impressive temperament.
She did not lash out at anyone or make unnecessary comments. First, she spotted this rag-tag group's leader and sat beside him.
"Are you surprised to see how young I am? You should not be. The real surprise has yet to start."
Layla informed the older man, but he looked worried as well. He wondered if he had mistakenly asked Layla to come to her.
Seeing his hesitation made Layla sigh before she decided to show off her knowledge and skill.
"Viscount Allen, are you doubting me and my skills? If so, would you like me to give you a demonstration? What kind of thing would you like me to show you?"
Layla asked the man in a mysterious voice. Her question made the Viscount freeze up before he looked worriedly at Layla and her company.
"How did you know about that? I never told anyone who I was."
The Viscount spoke in a harsh and low voice so no one else could hear.
He had made many sacrifices to gain a stronghold in this place. He had buttered up with people he had never thought he would be associated with so he would not be questioned.
And now, a single word from Layla was enough to make all that worthless. The Viscount felt his heart skip a beat, and he almost reached out to grab Layla and punch the kid.
But as soon as that violent thought came into his mind, it disappeared, and the Viscount calmed down.
"Well, you caught me. But I would prefer it if you didn't share what you know about me. I dislike advertising that I am a noble since I hate them all. You do not have to address me as a noble either."
The older man ordered in a firm voice. For someone who was adamant about leaving the nobility, it was given that they would have surrendered their title as well.
But for the Viscount, that was not the case.
It was a matter that made everyone curious, but Layla would not look into it. After all, she already knew what happened to the Viscount and his family.
