The kid near Layla acted like a wild beast that did not know what it was doing and could not bring itself to trust her fully.

It made the Chimera feel adorable but deadly at the same time. A single wrong move and Layla knew that her life would end at this chimera's hand. She was not ready to have her head chewed.

"Hey, listen carefully to me. I know you have more than enough emotional intelligence to understand me. From now on, your name will be Roma, and you will respond to that name. Do I make myself clear?"

Layla asked tensely, and the kid in front of her pretended he could not hear her words. She could feel his ear being turned to the side, and the illusion looked like it was not paying any attention.

However, Layla noticed how the kid turned his eyes toward Layla just enough to tell her that he was watching her and listening to her talk.

*Sigh*

'Don't the newborn chicks imprint on the first thing they see as their mother? Something similar happened to this Chimera in the original work. He imprinted on the Duke and later on Rosette. So why am I an exception?'

Not that Layla wanted a kid to have around or something. She thought it would be a good idea to have the Chimera imprint on her instead of anyone else. But it seemed to be a problem now.

"Let's go. I have decided to take down this place, and the sooner we leave here, the better it will be for all of us."

Layla sighed as she finally reached out to grab the Chimera and drag it out.

The sudden action made the Chimera feel threatened, and it growled softly to be let go. But Layla ignored it and kept dragging it away from the room.

Soon, the Chimera realized that Layla meant no harm and calmed down. But it also kept an eye on her to see what else she would do.

Layla felt the sweat on her head as she felt those eyes glaring daggers into her back. But she kept walking, and she did not fall for this kid's trick.

She reached the exit of the castle before she brought she turned toward the excited dragon on her shoulder.

"Alright, Luna, it is your time to shine. Go and destroy that castle in front of you. I am sure you feel excited to do this as well."

Layla gave the dragon on her shoulder free reign to do whatever she wanted. This made Luna's excitement jump even further before she raised her front two legs, and explosions sounded all across the castle.

The fire broke out soon after, and people tried to run out of the building on time. They coughed as smoke entered their lungs, but they were all safe.

Luna's explosion was not too huge, covering only a portion of the castle. Layla had cast it to distract everyone from what she was doing.

It made the kid standing behind her flinch at the loud noises, but he did not complain.

"Well, our work here is done. It's time to head back now. Roma, do you feel anything? Can you head back home with me now?"

Layla asked the Chimera, who looked a little lost. He opened his mouth to ask Layla a question, but he closed his mouth just the very next second, not wanting to speak anymore.

Seeing the kid behaving like they no longer wanted to speak, Layla let him get comfortable and took him back.

...

"Welcome back, master. Did you succeed in whatever you set out to do? I am sure you had fun while you were out and about."

Mary asked as she sipped her tea and relaxed. She seemed to have no care in the world as she kept her eyes closed, and a serene expression took over her face.

"Well, I won't say that it was a fruitless endeavor. I did manage to get the kid and bring him here. But he is more like a harmless pup and less like a ferocious guard dog I was hoping for."

To say that seeing Roma was a bit of a letdown would be an underestimation on Layla's part. The kid had shocked her enough not ever to want to get involved with him again. But she still brought the kid back home and handed it home.

Every second felt like a struggle when the kid kept going out from her side to pick on most random things. It started with him smelling good and eating it without paying.

Then he tried to fight other kids and dogs before Layal bound him with a spell and decided to teleport back home.

As much as she understood the Chimera's situation, she was tired of being a babysitter for it.

"Mary, he is your responsibility now. Make sure he turns into a respectful human who can pass in human society. I will be counting on you to make it happen."

Layla sighed before she dragged herself back to her bed. She pulled the covers on top of her and went to sleep. She deserved it after the tiring day she had.

Meanwhile, Mary looked stunned and amused at the gift she had been left behind with. The kid, no, the Chimera, looked around the office with a curious expression before his eyes met Mary's, and they stiffened.

He sensed an opponent so strong that he could not help but feel shocked and suspicious of her. He tried to fold himself over so Mary would not see him, but it was too late.

"So, kid, how about we train a little? We can learn much if you stop being stubborn and come with me. I promise I won't be angry too often."

Mary promised, but Chimera's bad feelings intensified when he looked at this female. He was sure that she had the potential to kill him, and unlike the last person he was with, the demon wouldn't hesitate to take a swing at him.
