CHAPTER 315: CHAPTER 315: SUCH A BIG GREEN HAT (2)_1
The Shen family mansion was ablaze with light. Wanqian sat on the sofa with a gloomy face, exuding a chill air, her complexion livid as she breathed heavily.
Shen Jia had originally been sitting beside her, wanting to approach Wanqian and say a few words, but seeing her current state, she obediently sat on another sofa instead.
Duan Mei and Shen Congming exchanged glances. Sensing the oppressive atmosphere in the living room, they wisely remained silent, their gazes occasionally sweeping outside.
For an entire day and night, Shen Cheng had not returned. Wanqian’s complexion had been terrible last night, and today it was even worse, ashen as she sat listlessly in the living room, having waited for Shen Cheng the whole day.
All day, Shen Cheng hadn’t gone to the company, and his mobile phone was turned off. The air around Wanqian seemed to grow colder. Whenever she recalled how Shen Cheng had abandoned her with Yang Cilang last night and departed alone, an inexplicable pain twisted in her heart.
After doing so much for Shen Cheng, how could he treat her this way? How could he treat her this way? Every time she thought about Shen Cheng treating her like this, her heart ached with a twisting pain.
"Sister Wanqian, perhaps Shen Cheng has an urgent matter. Otherwise, you should go to sleep first. Waiting like this isn’t a solution," Shen Jia urged, noticing the icy aura radiating from Wanqian and having received a pointed look from her parents.
"An urgent matter? What urgent matter could he possibly have?" Wanqian roared, springing to her feet and glaring furiously at Shen Jia.
"Wanqian, you need to understand, men have social obligations. You’ve been with him for years; you should be considerate," Shen Congming interjected, trying to calm the enraged Wanqian. Men, after all, which one doesn’t stray? Which man can be content with just one woman? Shen Cheng isn’t home now, so he must have grown tired of the same woman. It’s quite normal to want a change of pace occasionally,
he thought. Wanqian doesn’t need to act like it’s the end of the world. Besides, with her exceptional beauty, even if Shen Cheng wanted a change, he wouldn’t want to lose her.
"Social obligations? Considerate? Haven’t I been considerate enough?" Wanqian bellowed. "After everything I’ve done for him, he still treats me like this? How dare he treat me like this?" With a CRASH, a glass on the coffee table shattered.
"Wanqian," Shen Congming continued, "as a woman, especially one behind a successful man, it’s quite normal for him to have business engagements. Besides, you used to accompany Shen Cheng to these events frequently. Don’t you have even that little bit of tolerance?"
"Yes, Wanqian," Duan Mei chimed in, warmly taking Wanqian’s hand and gently urging her to sit down. "As women, we should be understanding toward men, letting them go out to earn money. We just need to stay at home, dress up nicely, enjoy our lives, and look after the home. Besides, isn’t that how all women manage?" As she spoke, she whispered soothingly in Wanqian’s ear.
"Wanqian, men are all like that; which one doesn’t have flings on the side? We should just turn a blind eye. You don’t need to take them so seriously. Moreover, we’ve watched Shen Cheng grow up; his character is top-notch. This is all just our speculation; perhaps he really has encountered something important," Duan Mei continued softly.
"Exactly, Sister Wanqian! Maybe Brother Shen Cheng is tied up with something important, and that’s why his phone is off," Shen Jia quickly chimed in.
"Yes, Wanqian," Duan Mei added, "after a man has been busy outside all day, he hopes to come home to a smiling wife, not a volcano. Besides, Shen Cheng has been sensible since he was a child; it must be something important."
"What important matter could he possibly have? Hmph." Wanqian’s anger slowly subsided. Duan Mei is right, I shouldn’t be this angry, she thought, yet the stone in her heart still made her feel stifled.
"Well, you never know," Shen Congming said. "You aren’t aware, but recently, the company has been working itself to the bone on the cooperation project with Mr. Yang Cilang. And today, Mr. Yang was beaten so badly he ended up in the hospital. I heard he broke several bones."
"Such a major incident, and no one told me?" Wanqian had been stewing at home all day, but hearing Shen Congming’s words, her anger eased somewhat. Maybe Shen Cheng really did have something important to handle, and that’s why he hasn’t been home all day,
she mused.
"I did mention it, but you weren’t listening," Shen Congming replied. "Men have their own affairs to manage. You can’t expect Shen Cheng to be with you every single moment, can you? It’s getting late; go upstairs and rest."
"Yes, Wanqian, go upstairs and rest," Duan Mei urged gently. "Believe me, once Shen Cheng finishes his business, he’ll come home. Sulking here won’t help if he actually has something troubling him."
"Sister Wanqian, let’s go upstairs and rest," Shen Jia said, taking Wanqian’s arm and starting to lead her upstairs.
HONK HONK HONK... The sound of a car horn echoed, followed by a SQUEAL of tires as a silver sports car shot straight into the garage.
Wanqian, who had been on her way upstairs, froze. A glimmer of joy flashed across her face. Shen Cheng is back! Then, remembering how he had abandoned her last night, the smile vanished, and her expression turned stern once more.
"Brother Shen Cheng is back! Sister Wanqian, I was right, wasn’t I?" Shen Jia exclaimed, quickly releasing Wanqian’s arm and hurrying towards the entrance.
"Mr. Shen, you’ve had too much to drink," a soft, feminine voice suddenly echoed in the hall, sounding exceptionally grating to the ear.
Wanqian trembled violently, her expression growing even more unsightly. The faces of Shen Jia and her family also darkened.
So Shen Cheng wasn’t busy after all? He went to find another woman? The realization struck Wanqian.
"I’m not drunk! Come on, let’s have another drink! More!" Shen Cheng slurred.
"Mr. Shen, you’re home now. Behave yourself a little," the woman cooed, playfully pushing away the Shen Cheng who was clinging to her.
"Luoluo, I *am* being very serious! How am I misbehaving? Come, give me a kiss." Shen Cheng then planted a hard kiss on the face of the woman called Luoluo.
"Mr. Shen, everyone’s watching! How can I possibly face them now?" Luoluo demurred, ducking into Shen Cheng’s embrace. She looked up at him shyly, but as her gaze swept over Wanqian’s furious face, a triumphant glint sparked in her eyes, and she raised her eyebrows proudly.
"Let them look! If it comes to that, you’ll just stay with me. I guarantee you’ll live a life of luxury," Shen Cheng declared with a hearty laugh, kissing her face again.
