Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance
Chapter 191: Talking to Gu’s Mother
CHAPTER 191: CHAPTER 191: TALKING TO GU’S MOTHER
Gu Yi rushed for two consecutive days, and the exams finally concluded.
Two days later, Ye Hao was transferred to the regular ward.
The day after the transfer, Li Jianjun brought Ye Honglian and others to visit Ye Hao.
Ye Honglian and Wu Chunmei might have been worried about the kids causing a commotion in the ward, so they left Qiangqiang and Nuonuo at home.
Fang Hong seemed a bit chubbier than before.
"Yiyi, this is a little token from a few of us, you’ve had a hard time recently, huh? We wanted to come by as soon as we heard the news, but my Old Liu said we might only make things more chaotic back then, and ended up not coming. It was only after Li Camp Commander informed us that Ye Hao was transferred to the regular ward that we decided to come. Old Liu and Wang Wei wanted to come too, but they’re busy training soldiers, so they sent us as representatives,"
Ye Honglian explained while putting what they had brought together on the floor. She looked at Gu Yi with some pity, noticing Gu Yi was even thinner than before.
"Thank you, sisters, it’s good that you’re here, why bother bringing these things?"
Gu Yi looked at a basket of eggs on the floor, as well as some items that appeared to be supplements, which surely cost them quite a sum.
Life was hard for everyone now, and bringing so much left Gu Yi feeling a bit apologetic.
"These are just a little thought from everyone, and if you need help with anything, just tell us."
Wu Chunmei joined in to say.
"Thanks a lot, sorry for making you worry."
Gu Yi felt a warmth in her heart, with so much negative energy lately, talking with them made her feel noticeably better.
Meanwhile, Ye Hao and Li Jianjun were also chatting.
"Camp Commander, how are you feeling now?"
Li Jianjun looked at Ye Hao sitting on the hospital bed, sensing he was in good spirits.
"Maybe due to regular training, my physical condition is better, and the doctor said I’m recovering quickly. Is Fang Hong pregnant?"
Ye Hao noticed Fang Hong seemed uncomfortable when they arrived, with Li Jianjun always asking how she was.
Ye Hao guessed it might be the case.
"Yes."
Li Jianjun nodded, unable to hide his joy.
Ye Hao felt quite happy for him too, another happy event for the troops.
If he and Gu Yiyi had gotten married and had a baby, perhaps things wouldn’t be as they are now.
Thinking about it brought a sense of loss to Ye Hao.
But Li Jianjun, immersed in his joy, didn’t notice Ye Hao’s expression.
Li Jianjun kept talking about how Fang Hong’s preferences changed significantly since she got pregnant, and mentioned things to be cautious about.
It was like he was imparting experience to Ye Hao.
Ye Hao wasn’t sure why, but he noted down everything Li Jianjun said.
Ye Honglian and the others were worried staying too long would disturb Ye Hao’s recovery.
After a brief sit, they got up to leave.
"If you need help, please speak up and don’t be too formal with us."
As they left, Ye Honglian pulled Gu Yi’s hand and said.
Wu Chunmei also nodded along.
"Sure, sisters. By the way, if you have time, could you check on the vegetables in my yard? It’s been a while since I’ve been back, I’m not sure if they’ve dried up. If any have grown, please pick them to eat. Ye Hao will probably be in the city after he’s discharged, and he’ll return only when he’s fully recovered."
Gu Yi suddenly thought of the vegetables she planted in the yard; she had completely forgotten. It was perfect to let them eat them, otherwise they’d be wasted. Her family was all in the city, and Ye Hao would surely stay in the city after discharge for better care.
"Don’t worry, we’ve been taking good care of your veggies, they’re growing well. We made some pickles and dried veggies, and when you come back, we’ll give them to you."
Ye Honglian said with a smile.
"Thanks, sisters, do enjoy them. We seldom go back, and can’t eat much."
Gu Yi was relieved the vegetables hadn’t gone to waste.
After they left, the ward returned to silence.
Gu Yi sometimes didn’t know what attitude to adopt towards Ye Hao.
On one hand, she knew it was because he got injured, but on the other hand, the atmosphere often turned awkward when they spoke.
Thus, when alone, Ye Hao would read his books, and Gu Yi would paint her pictures.
They wouldn’t interfere with each other, and both managed well with their own tasks.
After some time, Ye Hao recovered quite well, his wounds scabbed, and the doctor said he could walk around.
The first time Ye Hao stood up, Gu Yi was beside him for support.
Perhaps due to lying on the bed too long, Ye Hao’s legs didn’t cooperate well.
If a doctor hadn’t been nearby, they could have fallen together.
After Ye Hao managed to stand steadily.
Both were drenched in sweat.
They looked at each other, both appearing quite awkward.
They couldn’t help but laugh.
Gu Yi was in a daze watching Ye Hao’s laughter.
Feeling like it had been a long time since Ye Hao smiled at her, suddenly all the hardship and exhaustion felt worth it.
Ye Hao also noticed Gu Yi’s gaze.
Clearing his throat, he looked away.
Ye’s mother came by to bring dinner and stopped Gu Yi.
"Yiyi, your parents called, I just happened to answer it. They said it’s been a long time since you called, and they’re a bit worried, so asked about you. When you get a chance, call them back."
Gu Yiyi realized she hadn’t called home since Ye Hao was hospitalized.
After greeting Ye’s mother, she went to the hospital’s shop to call home.
"Mom, it’s Yiyi."
Upon hearing her mom’s voice, Gu Yi quickly said.
"Yiyi, are you alright? Why haven’t you called home for so long?"
Gu’s mother anxiously asked when she heard Gu Yi’s voice.
"Mom, Ye Hao got hurt during a mission, I’ve been taking care of him, and forgot to call home."
Gu Yi said somewhat sheepishly.
"Got hurt? Is it serious?"
Gu’s mother was worried upon hearing this.
"It’s quite bad, but he’s better now, don’t worry. He’s recovering in the regular ward now and should be discharged soon."
Gu Yi’s words eased Gu’s mother’s mind.
"Are you okay? Make sure to take care of yourself while looking after him. Don’t let him recover while you fall apart."
Gu’s mother knew Gu Yi’s nature; she tended to bear burdens on her own.
With such a big issue concerning Ye Hao, she didn’t even think to ask the family for help.
Gu’s mother thought of Ye Hao lying in the hospital bed and knew Gu Yi must have been frightened too.
A rush of heartache overwhelmed her.
"I’m doing well, rest assured."
Gu Yi deliberately spoke in a light-hearted tone to show she was fine.
But Gu’s mother, being her mom, could still discern a hint of oddness in her voice.
Knowing Gu Yi wouldn’t want to discuss, she didn’t press further.
They chatted a bit more before hanging up.
Gu Yi stepped out of the shop, looked up at the moon, and suddenly felt homesick.
She stood outside for quite a while before she gathered her emotions.
Returning to the ward.
