Reborn in the 80s: She Rewrites Life with Radiance
Chapter 199: Disheartened
CHAPTER 199: CHAPTER 199: DISHEARTENED
Gu Yi lay in bed, waiting for her strength to return a bit.
It was as if she had made up her mind about something, as she sat up in bed.
After tidying herself up a bit, she went out toward the entrance of the military base.
"Yiyi, when did you come back? Where are you going?"
Gu Yi hadn’t gone far when she ran into Ye Honglian, who was returning from grocery shopping.
"Sis-in-law, I’m here to get some things. I have to head back to the city now."
Gu Yi said with a smile.
"Why are you leaving in such a hurry? Chun Mei and the others were planning to ask you to treat them when you returned."
Ye Honglian said, seeing Gu Yi’s expression as if she knew nothing.
"Your Ye Hao has now become the battalion commander. We thought if you came, we could have a gathering to celebrate. Didn’t Ye Hao mention it to you?"
Ye Honglian didn’t beat around the bush and spoke directly.
Gu Yi smiled and shook her head.
"He probably just forgot because he’s busy."
She sighed heavily in her heart.
When the regimental commander visited Ye Hao, he mentioned there would be a reward.
Gu Yi had always thought it would be a bonus.
She didn’t expect that Ye Hao would be promoted.
But such a big event, Ye Hao didn’t breathe a word to her.
Is he afraid she’d cling to him if she found out?
"What’s been going on with you two? I heard you had a falling out last time."
Ye Honglian felt that ever since Ye Hao got injured, things had been strange between them.
Gu Yi listened and suddenly felt a pang in her nose.
She also wanted to know what was happening between her and Ye Hao.
Gu Yi hadn’t decided how to answer.
Ye Honglian hurriedly stepped forward, grabbing Gu Yi’s arm and turning her around.
"What’s going on?"
Gu Yi asked, looking at Ye Honglian.
"Look."
Ye Honglian said as she looked ahead.
Gu Yi followed her gaze.
It turned out Yang Lin was chasing after Ye Hao.
Ye Hao appeared a bit impatient but still slowed his pace.
Yang Lin caught up, grabbing Ye Hao’s sleeve.
Ye Hao surprisingly didn’t shake her off.
"What’s the deal with these two? Yiyi, there are rumors in the military about them. Apparently, Yang Lin has been pursuing Ye Hao, but Ye Hao hasn’t agreed for unknown reasons. However, Yang Lin has been coming to the base very frequently recently. You can’t ignore this; otherwise, you’ll be the one losing out."
Ye Honglian said angrily.
Ye Honglian was thinking of reminding Gu Yi when she came to the base to be more aware.
But now, Gu Yi saw with her own eyes, so there’s no need for further words.
"Sis-in-law, thank you for the reminder. If it’s destined to rain, a mother will marry her daughter. There are many things we can’t stop. I have to go now. You know my number; call me next time you are in the city, and I’ll treat you all to a restaurant."
Gu Yi intended to smile at Ye Honglian but only managed a slight twitch of her lips.
After saying this, she didn’t wait for Ye Honglian to respond and quickly headed towards the entrance.
Ye Honglian watched Gu Yi’s hurried figure and then glanced at Ye Hao’s direction. Ye Hao was also walking home, leaving Yang Lin stamping her feet behind.
"What is this called? Did Ye Hao hurt his brain or something, choosing not to want such a good wife?"
Ye Honglian sighed as she carried the groceries home.
"Sis-in-law, buying some vegetables?"
Yang Lin wasn’t embarrassed at all.
She even greeted Ye Honglian.
Ye Honglian responded with a nod.
Without much hassle, she passed by Yang Lin.
Yang Lin snorted at Ye Honglian’s retreating figure.
She had noticed them talking with Gu Yi while watching her direction.
Could they be standing up for Gu Yi?
Besides, she saw Gu Yi standing there just now; Ye Hao definitely did too. When she grabbed his sleeve, he surprisingly didn’t shake her off. Could it be on purpose for Gu Yi to see?
Today, even the heavens were helping her. When she went to the training field to find Ye Hao, a new recruit accidentally got injured during the training.
The medical officer had gone to the village today and wasn’t home, so she went to help.
Unable to find the hemostatic medication at the clinic, Ye Hao said he had some at home, and she followed him to get it.
She purposely spoke those misleading words in front of Gu Yi.
Unexpectedly, though Ye Hao didn’t cooperate, he didn’t refute her either.
Yang Lin thought that her little tricks were already showing effect.
She turned and walked towards Chen Jun’s house, humming a song along the way.
After returning to the city, Gu Yi didn’t go home but went to Good Taste to find Liang Yesheng.
"Gu Yi, what brings you to my place?"
Liang Yesheng was a bit surprised to see Gu Yi.
Since the opening ceremony, they hadn’t met face-to-face, only discussed business over the phone.
"Brother Liang, I have something I need your help with."
Gu Yi staggered a bit as she spoke.
Liang Yesheng quickly helped her, guiding her to sit on a chair.
He poured her a cup of water.
"What’s wrong? You look quite pale."
Liang Yesheng asked, sitting across from Gu Yi.
"Thanks. I’m fine; maybe I just didn’t eat lunch and my blood sugar is low."
Gu Yi said with a smile.
Hearing this, Liang Yesheng hurriedly made her some malted milk and brought some snacks over, handing them to Gu Yi.
"Fortunately, the office has some snacks here; have a bite to perk up."
Though Gu Yi was a bit hungry, she didn’t have much appetite.
After expressing thanks, she drank the malted milk.
"You could have just called if you needed something. Why make a special trip?"
Once Gu Yi ate a little and felt more spirited, Liang Yesheng said.
"It was on the way, so I came by. I want to borrow some money from you, Brother Liang, and repay you from the year-end dividends, if that’s okay?"
Gu Yi said directly.
"Of course, can I ask what the money is for?"
Liang Yesheng was curious what Gu Yi intended to do with the money - had she found a new business opportunity?
"I’m divorcing Ye Hao. I want to buy a house so I can move out."
Gu Yi spoke with certainty, without saying anything like guessing or speculation, showing she’d made up her mind.
Liang Yesheng didn’t expect she’d borrow money for this purpose.
"Alright, how much do you need?"
Liang Yesheng didn’t ask for the reasons, responding directly.
He knew that in this era, getting divorced required a lot of courage, as one had to face various gossip and as a woman, Gu Yi would find it even harder.
If it wasn’t truly unbearable, she wouldn’t take this step.
Since Gu Yi had made up her mind, it meant she had thought things through.
As a friend, he wanted to help as much as he could.
"Brother Liang, thank you, but I need to find a house first to know how much I need."
Gu Yi said with a smile.
"Alright, once you find a house, give me a call. If I don’t have time to bring it to you, I’ll have Yang Lin deliver it."
After expressing gratitude, Gu Yi prepared to leave.
"Wait a moment, let me have the driver take you back. You’re not well, and it’s worrisome. Don’t stress too much over things or people you’re preparing to let go. You have to live better than before to prove your decision is right."
Liang Yesheng quickly stopped Gu Yi.
He guessed Gu Yi’s weariness was because of Ye Hao.
But having decided to let go, there was no need to dwell on it.
"Thank you, Brother Liang, I will remember."
Gu Yi’s thanks came from the bottom of her heart.
Yes, having made the decision, why hold on and not let go?
