Chapter 20: The Shrewd Mrs. Yao
CHAPTER 20: CHAPTER 20: THE SHREWD MRS. YAO
Lyu Juncheng saw his eldest son only picking at the stewed meat, so he reached out and put a few pieces into the twins’ bowls, casually saying to his eldest son, "Eat slowly."
Lyu Xiangyang heard this but didn’t lift his head; instead, he ate even faster. This small action, Lyu Juncheng didn’t notice.
Yao Hui frowned, somewhat displeased, "There isn’t much stewed meat to begin with, keep some consideration for others, you’re really thoughtless."
Lyu Xiangyang found her annoying, retorting, "Why don’t you be more generous and buy more, then there’d be enough to eat."
With a single sentence, Yao Hui disliked Lyu Xiangyang even more, "Xiangyang, what’s wrong with you, how can you talk to your elders like that?"
No matter what Yao Hui said afterwards, Lyu Xiangyang ignored her, but thought to himself: Indeed, everything Er Dan’s mom said is true. Women who want to be someone’s stepmother are never good news.
Yao Hui didn’t understand why Lyu Xiangyang suddenly became so unfriendly towards her, and Lyu Juncheng had no intention of intervening. She originally wanted to say more, but seeing the situation, she gave up.
After the kids had their fill and left the table, only Yao Hui and Lyu Juncheng remained.
Lyu Juncheng felt a bit uneasy, "It’s getting late, you should hurry and eat, then head home so your mom doesn’t worry."
Yao Hui was pondering how to finally tie the knot with her brother-in-law when she heard this and her mood suddenly worsened.
Her mother had been helping her look into potential matches these days, but she wasn’t interested in any. Either there were too many brothers crowding together, or she wasn’t pleased with the appearance of the suitors.
As for Lyu Juncheng’s side, Yao Hui was afraid Yu Xinyan might move in, which would be troublesome.
No matter how shameless she could be, Yao Hui was ultimately a young maiden. She took out the peanuts she hadn’t before, and placed the bottle of wine from under the table onto it, "You’ve worked hard these days, have a drink to unwind and rest early, I’ll take my leave now."
She got up and walked a few steps, then stopped, "Just leave the dishes, I’ll find time to come and clean up tomorrow."
With that, she headed out.
After seeing her leave for real, Lyu Juncheng relaxed completely. The workload at the factory had been heavy these days, and it was indeed exhausting.
He glanced at the bottle of wine and picked it up, intending to just have a small drink before resting, but unexpectedly, he ended up drinking too much.
When Lyu Xiangyang came out, Lyu Juncheng, not yet completely drunk, said to his eldest son, "Make sure your little brother and sister get to bed early."
Being just a child, Lyu Xiangyang didn’t notice anything unusual about Lyu Juncheng. He called his brother and sister out to use the bathroom, then led them back into the room to take off their shoes and get on the bed.
Meanwhile, back home, Yao Hui was unable to fall asleep as her mother gave her a good talking to. Her mom had mentioned that there was another blind date planned for tomorrow, and it seemed like she wouldn’t rest until Yao Hui was married off.
She just couldn’t understand; her mom clearly seemed to favor her brother-in-law as a son-in-law, so why wouldn’t she agree to let her marry him?
In the next room, on the bed, Father Yao turned to Mrs. Yao, "You clearly know what the second girl is thinking, why do you have to go against her? If she married Juncheng, wouldn’t it still be one family?"
Mrs. Yao rolled her eyes at her husband, "What do you know? Being a stepmother is no easy task. If those children turn out well, then fine. But if not, won’t Huihui get blamed?
You didn’t hear Er Dan’s mom next door, Feng Qiaoniang, talking about it. She said that Huihui has had her eye on Juncheng for a while, looking at him differently. If I agree to this, wouldn’t it just prove her right?"
