CHAPTER 128: CHAPTER 127: QUEST COMPLETE
Axelius lowered his hand and looked at his companions—Nyx was wagging its tail, its body starting to shine faintly with a bluish hue, Crow stretched his wings with soft glowing feathers falling from them like sparks.
Owen bounced a bit where he stood as his slime body began to shimmer, and Gob... Gob stood still, but her whole body glowed a soft red, and when the light faded, her shape was a little taller, her ears sharper, her outfit a bit more armored—and now she had brown messy hair tied back like a wild ponytail.
Axelius raised an eyebrow and pointed, "Ohhh, you got hair, Gob!"
Gob turned red and looked down, holding her cheeks while smiling wide, "Do I look pretty now, Master?"
Axelius blinked twice, confused, and tilted his head before shaking it and laughing, "It’s handsome, not pretty, Gob. You’re a guy, remember?"
Then, Owen sighed deeply from his spot and bounce next to Axelius with a deadpan expression and muttered flatly, "Idiot. Gob’s a girl."
Axelius stopped. His body froze as his mouth slowly opened, and he stared at Gob with pure shock. "What?! You’re a girl this whole time?!"
Owen rolled his eyes and started explaining like it was obvious, "She evolved two years ago and chose to change. Your tamed monsters can pick their path during evolution. Males evolve stronger but dumber but females have better skill growth, better memory, better thinking too. She chose the path of Emberhorn Matron—it’s a rare female class."
Gob nodded proudly, puffing her chest and standing tall, "That’s right! I wanted to protect you all better, so I changed. I’m still Gob, just smarter and prettier now!"
Axelius stared longer, his brain slowly catching up, then rubbed the back of his neck and laughed awkwardly, "Well... I guess that makes sense. No wonder you always acted strange around Millie..."
Gob squeaked and turned away quickly, "D-Don’t bring that up, Master!"
Nyx barked once and Crow cawed like he was laughing too.
As they were walking, Axelius turned his head a bit and looked at Crow sitting quietly on his shoulder and asked with a curious smile, "What about you, Crow? What did you evolve into, hmm?"
Crow gave a proud "Caw!" and flapped his wings before flying up into the air and then, right in front of them, his body began to shine again, feathers shifting as his size started growing bigger and bigger until he was no longer just a shoulder-sized bird but a sleek and sharp-winged creature with white feathers gleaming under the sun.
Axelius’s eyes lit up, excitement bursting in his voice as he stepped forward quickly and pointed, "Whoa! Now we can fly in the sky?! Damn, you’re the best, Crow!"
Without waiting another second, he ran up to Crow and climbed onto his back followed by Gob and owen and Crow didn’t even wobble, just adjusted his wings and lifted him gently with one strong flap, rising into the air as Nyx jumped up and settled in front of Axelius, tongue out and tail wagging.
"And what about you, boy?" Axelius asked as he looked down at Nyx, smiling while holding onto Crow’s feathers. Nyx barked once happily, his skeleton tail wagging hard.
Owen, who was now sitting comfortably on Gob’s head while she floated up with the others using her magic-enhanced boots, looked at Axelius and answered plainly,
"Nyx’s kind doesn’t evolve that much you know He already evolved two years ago. He’s already a shadow prime class."
Axelius smiled wider, not disappointed at all, and leaned down to scratch under Nyx’s chin, making the hound let out a happy growl, "It’s okay, you’re still a good boy, huh? Aren’t you the best? Yes, you are! My little skeleton furball!"
Nyx barked again and leaned into the petting, clearly loving the attention as his tail wagged so fast it looked like a blur, and Owen just sighed and shook slightly where he sat, muttering under his breath, "Favoritism... tsk."
Gob chuckled at that, Axelius then turned his head to look at Owen with a curious look, "And what about you, Owen?"
Owen looked down at his gooey hands, turned himself a bit left and right, then bounced once and said with a little confusion, "I don’t know... nothing really appeared. I don’t feel any different either."
Axelius tilted his head, thinking for a second, but then shrugged with a grin, "Heh, Maybe because your in slime Maximum level."
"Probably tsk, Being a slime is not what i expected." Owen whispered as he felt the air.
Then Axelius looked down at the world below, the forests, the faraway mountain lines, and the clouds above them, his cloak fluttering in the wind, the cool air brushing against his face as Crow flew higher and faster, soaring through the open blue sky—and he spread his arms a little, smiling wider.
After enjoying the skies for a while longer, Axelius finally tapped Crow’s back lightly, and the bird responded by slowly descending toward the forest path again, gliding gently before landing on a patch of clear ground with Nyx hopping down first and Axelius following after him, stretching a little and patting Crow on the neck before saying,
"Good job, buddy," as Crow cawed proudly and shrank back to his shoulder-sized form with a blink of light.
Owen bounced beside him, landing smoothly beside Axelius’s shoulder while muttering, "The egg is probably gone now,"
But Axelius raised his hand to stop him and squinted his eyes, shaking his head confidently, "No, no, no, I hide it earlier... wait—this way."
He started moving quickly through the trees again and the others followed behind him, passing through tall bushes, stepping over roots.
and ignoring the fading scent of the grizzlies that had scattered earlier, until finally they stopped in front of a strange patch of ground covered in leaves, and without waiting he crouched and pushed the leaves aside—and there it was.
A massive egg almost the same size as Nyx resting safely in a shallow nest dug beneath the earth.
Axelius grinned wide, practically glowing as he picked it up, grunting a bit because of the weight but managing to carry it with both arms, "See? Still here! Dang, Skyclaw egg shell sure is hard. No wonder grizzly just suck its mana because they can’t break it. Now, it’s time to go to the guild and make money!"
