CHAPTER 266: HIS FIRST LOVE

"I ran away that night. And to this day, nobody knows this—" Ronan trailed off when his eyes met Adrian’s knowing gaze.

For a moment, he remained still but eventually, he shrugged, "If that counts?"

Just as he was looking away, he felt a strong gaze on himself.

When he looked up, his gaze locked with a beautiful pair of eyes.

Ruby did not break their eye contact immediately as she used to do before. But rather, she looked at him for a long time before looking away.

On the other hand, Ella sank into contemplation after hearing Ronan’s words. It seems like life has not been completely fair to anyone.

She smiled bitterly.

"Alright, alright, next!" Kade lightened the atmosphere immediately, one of his hands reaching out to pat Ronan’s shoulder in a natural movement.

Just as Kade reached out towards the bottle, Ella placed her hand on it, "Let me do it."

"Go ahead."

Ella grabbed the bottle and twirled it.

After a few seconds, the bottle stilled. This time, it pointed at—

Adrian.

Multiple gazes shot at Adrian, all at once. But Adrian remained seated like he was completely unbothered.

He even leisurely reached out to fix a loose strand of Ella’s hair.

Nobody interrupted their moment.

Ruby being Ruby sat there silently and minded her own business.

And Ronan and Kade had learnt their lesson after bothering the couple before so they also stayed put.

It was Ella who spoke up instead, "Baby, truth or dare?"

Adrian paused,"Which one do you want me to pick?"

"Will you really listen to me on this?" Ella perked up when she heard that, "How about you pick tru..."

"Wait, that’s cheating," Kade cut Ella off, "Brother needs to make his own choice without you poking your long nose in his decision."

Ella pouted. What point was there if Adrian picked ’dare’? Was there something in this world that Adrian King did not dare to do?

"Truth." Adrian said calmly, leaning back on the couch.

Ella’s eyes lit up, multiple questions already cascading in her mind.

But before she could utter a word—

Ronan beat her to it, "Ace, we have always seen you with Miss Yu. Why don’t you take the chance and tell us about your first love?"

The room fell silent.

Ronan’s question intrigued Ella as well.

"So my question is: When did you fall in love for the first time?" Ronan finished.

Kade nudged Ronan, motioning him to drop the question but Ronan seemed to have his own thoughts.

Such a question definitely piqued everyone’s interests but when the person on the other side was Adrian, nobody dared to push it too much.

When Adrian did not say anything, Ella also turned to glance at him.

"I was 15 at that time," the words left Adrian’s mouth, unhurried and composed.

The living room sunk in silence.

Ella’s lips twitched slightly, "You never told me you had a childhood sweetheart before.’’

It wasn’t until she uttered the words did she realize that they sounded strange for some reason.

The air turned stiff and nobody said another word.

Kade squirmed in his spot, as if he was sitting on pins and needles.

He wondered why all his good deeds yielded evil results... He just wanted a good game yet every question seemed to have offended one person or the other.

Just as he was thinking about what to do, Ruby stood up suddenly.

Kade turned to her, "What happened?"

"I am sleepy," she looked at him.

Kade immediately caught onto the cue and winked at her, giving her a huge thumbsup, "Bertha, take Ruby to her room to rest. She must be tired."

Bertha, who was standing at a little distance, immediately acted on command.

Ruby nodded at Kade and Kade gave her a grateful smile.

This entire brief interaction did not go unnoticed by Ronan whose eyes narrowed slightly.

"Since Ruby is tired, I think we should stop the game here..." Ella also got up and left.

With Ella gone, Adrian trailed behind her like a shadow.

"Knight, what possessed you to ask such a question?" Kade turned to Ronan, his brows tightly knit.

Ronan did not say anything.

"Let alone Ella, we also had no idea that brother had someone he liked back then. Their relationship is as fragile as it gets, how can you ask something like this?" Kade continued.

"Must I explain my decisions to you?" Ronan glanced at Kade briefly before he got up and retreated to one of the guest rooms.

Kade stood there cluelessly, scratching the back of his neck.

Decisions? What decisions? Weren’t we just playing a game? Why does it seem like a war now?

Ella did not go to the Master bedroom. Instead, she walked off to the other side and entered her old bedroom.

Just as she was about to close the door, a hand blocked it.

Ella frowned and released the door.

She quietly stepped away and climbed on the bed.

Adrian followed her silently, "You..."

"Don’t say anything. I am sleepy," Ella pulled the blanket up till it covered her head.

’Silence’

Ella blinked under the blankets. Did he leave?

In the next moment, she felt the mattress sink as Adrian laid down beside her.

A few minutes passed but Adrian did not say anything.

Why is he so quiet now? Ella frowned.

Her conscience: You just asked him to not say anything.

Ella frowned harder. Is he that obedient? Usually, he would not listen to me at all... Now, I am asking him to be quiet and he is staying quiet!

The stormy winds rattled the windows.

Even after an hour, Ella tossed and turned on the bed, unable to fall asleep.

She pushed away the blanket and sat up on the bed.

When she glanced to her left, Adrian seemed to be sound asleep, his breathing was even and his expressions unusually serene.

’He sure seems harmless when he is asleep...’ Ella clicked her tongue and turned to the other side.
