Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure
Chapter 132: Jealous of Himself
CHAPTER 132: JEALOUS OF HIMSELF
I let out a small laugh, still feeling a strange mix of relief and disbelief. For the first time in years, I wasn’t signing something that would trap me.
"Since I’m officially part of the company now," I said, tilting my head slightly, "does that mean I finally have the right to know who Mr. Lan really is?" I added softly, "Maybe... at least learn his real name?"
Lando avoided my gaze, clearing his throat before speaking. "I don’t think so," he said. "Mr. Lan is a very private person. Most of the staff here don’t know his identity, including the celebrities."
I went quiet for a moment before asking, "But you do, don’t you?"
"I do," Lando said with a small nod. "I know him well enough. That’s why he gave us a wedding gift."
Yeah, a diamond necklace that humiliated Madeline in front of everyone.
"I see..." I murmured. "Then when will I be allowed to know who he really is? If I become a famous actress, would I get the chance to meet him in person?"
"I’ll tell him about that," Lando said. "But honestly, knowing his identity or not doesn’t really matter. He’ll still support you either way."
I lowered my head, staring at the floor. He was right, his identity wasn’t that important. But it still stung a little, knowing other people might know Lando’s secret while I, his wife, was kept in the dark.
Still, I couldn’t blame him. We hadn’t known each other for that long, and it was probably too risky for him to reveal something that big so soon.
He’d probably tell me later... when we truly knew and trusted each other better.
"You’re right," I said finally, lifting my head and smiling. "Whether I know Mr. Lan’s identity or not won’t change my career. But at least... can you tell him that I’m really grateful for how well he’s treated me?"
Lando raised a brow. "But he hasn’t actually done anything for you yet."
"What do you mean?" I asked. "He’s only taking twenty percent of my income, that already shows he’s looking out for me."
I smiled wider, maybe a little too bright. "If someday he allows me to get to know him, I’d love to invite him to dinner."
Lando’s tone turned slightly irritated. "You don’t need to have dinner alone with your boss."
I narrowed my eyes slightly, finding it amusing because it honestly sounded like Lando was jealous of his own alter ego.
Why was he getting worked up over his own alter ego?
"Alone?" I said with a teasing smile. "I was actually thinking of inviting him to our house, so we could have dinner with him together."
Lando relaxed almost instantly. "Oh... I see."
I bit back a laugh. Did he really think I’d leave him if I met a man richer than him? Was that why he sounded so defensive earlier?
I wasn’t entirely sure, but judging from his expression, it was very possible.
After all, he’d grown up among the wealthy and powerful. He must have seen countless stories of women leaving their partners for richer men, and men cheating on their wives the moment they found someone younger or prettier.
I could never understand people who cheat.
Why would anyone betray the person who had stayed by their side for so long, just to chase something new?
Maybe it was because they never truly knew their partners in the first place.
But Lando and I were different. We might have known each other for less than a year, but at least we trusted each other, and we felt safe together.
I would never trade him for someone richer. It was rare for me to meet a man who could make me feel this secure the way Lando did.
"Someday... you’ll get to meet Mr. Lan," Lando said suddenly. "But for now, all you need to know is that he’ll never put you in a difficult position in his company."
I smiled and nodded. "That’s reassuring," I said softly. "Thank you, husband. And... please tell Mr. Lan that I’m grateful for everything he’s done."
Lando gave a small nod before turning to discuss work details with Marissa. Since she’d be managing my schedule, I quietly let them talk it out.
About half an hour later, their discussion finally wrapped up. "Alright," Marissa said, standing up with a smile. "I’ll organize Helcia’s schedule carefully and slip in a few ad shoots here and there, so she doesn’t get too overwhelmed."
She began packing her things and picked up her bag. "Well, I should get going. I don’t want to annoy Xena by being late."
"Oh, you’re meeting your wife?" I asked with a smile.
Marissa nodded. "Yeah. She just got back from a business trip, so I’m picking her up at the airport. I’ll grab a taxi, so you don’t need to come with me."
Before I could even say a word, Marissa was already heading for the door, leaving me alone with Lando.
No... why did she have to leave me alone with my husband?!
Oh, it was actually such a great thing—wait, no! It wasn’t great at all!
Like I said before, being around Lando in a work setting already felt a little awkward, and now, with Marissa gone, it felt even worse.
Did he want me to leave too? He was probably busy... but there was something important I really wanted to talk about.
"Do you... have a bit of time to talk?" I asked, my voice coming out more hesitant than I meant it to. "I... actually have something important to discuss."
Lando glanced at his watch, then looked back at me with the same uncertain expression I was wearing. It was almost funny how two married people could still be this awkward with each other.
"I actually have a meeting in about ten minutes," Lando said. "But if you don’t mind waiting, would you like to stay here? The meeting probably won’t take long."
