CHAPTER 258: ZACHARY’S JEALOUSY

Liam’s eyes sparkled. A little more push, and Riya would reveal everything. "That bastard," he muttered. "He bullies everyone. He didn’t even leave you."

"Tsk." She clicked her tongue, making a long face. "He tricked everyone and forced them to work for him. I’ve seen it. Everyone is scared of him. Me too. He also forced me to work for him."

She pouted tightly and dropped her head on the table, drowsiness pulling her down.

But Liam wasn’t done yet. He had so many to ask. "What is his plan? What is he forcing you to do this time?"

"He is planning something big – very big," she said, closing her eyes.

"What is he going to do this time?" he asked urgently. "Answer me."

"He is going to hurt everyone and reclaim his position," she said.

Liam’s blood ran cold. It didn’t take a second to guess who was Zachary’s target. "So, it was him, right? He was behind Mrs. Grant’s fall. Do you know something?"

Silence.

"Shit!" Liam slammed his fist on the table. He was this close to getting the truth out of her mouth, but Riya had fallen asleep. His clenched fist trembled on the table. "But I have enough evidence to make Zachary step back from targeting the Lawsons."

He quirked his lips as he held up the recorder. "Is anyone here?" he called out.

A servant came over. "Sir. Do you need anything?"

Liam glanced at Riya. "Take Miss Grant to the guest room."

The servant nodded. "Sure."

Without looking back, Liam strode out of the house.

The next day...

When Riya woke up, it was already noon. She pressed her fingers on his forehead, wincing. "My head is splitting. I shouldn’t have drunk so much."

She sat upright, dazedly looking around, only to find herself in an unfamiliar room. She remembered Liam bringing her to his place. "Is this his room?" she wondered.

Despite the discomfort, she still smiled at the prospect of sleeping with him in the same bed. "Did anything happen between us last night?"

She bit her lower lip in anticipation. But she couldn’t remember anything. Looking down, she found herself fully dressed. A hint of disappointment crossed her eyes.

’He didn’t touch me,’ she mumbled to herself, her lips curling slightly. ’He is quite different from what I anticipated. I thought a Playboy like him wouldn’t resist a beautiful and sexy woman. But I was wrong. He won’t touch anyone without permission.’

She giggled softly, pushing her hair behind her ear. "Liam, you really left a lasting impression on my heart. I’ll do my best to win you. But before that, I need to fix certain things."

She tossed the blanket aside, ready to climb out the bed when her phone buzzed. She reached for her bag and took out her phone, only to see several missed calls from Zachary.

A gasp tore from her throat. "Why did he call me so many times?"

She then suddenly remembered calling him last night, but all her calls had been unanswered. Maybe he had been calling her to check on her.

"Oh, shit," she muttered, her expression turning ugly. "He must be mad at me. What am I going to do? Shall I call him back?"

Her heart hammered in her chest. But she was afraid he would scold her.

"If I don’t call him back, he will get even angrier."

Her fingers trembled slightly as she phoned him.

"Finally, you got the time to call me back." Zachary’s cold voice made her shudder.

"I-I just woke up," she stuttered. "Last night, I was tired and slept late."

"Tired?" he scoffed. "You weren’t at the hospital even – left with your fiancé early. What had you been doing with him all the night that you slept late?"

"I didn’t..."

"Don’t lie," he snapped. "I know your kind of woman so well. You might be drooling over Liam, eager to sleep with him. What? Did he keep you awake all night? That’s why you slept until noon?"

Those humiliating remarks pierced her heart. "It’s not like that," she snapped, her whole frame shaking in rage. "Our engagement party was ruined. Mom was at the hospital. We were all stressed. Liam wanted to have a drink with me. I agreed and accompanied him. We got drunk and fell asleep. Nothing happened between us."

"Do you think I’ll buy that?" Zachary roared. "I saw how clingy you were at the party – you kept holding his hand. And still now, you are at his place."

Zachary clasped the steering wheel tightly as he looked at the building ahead. He had been waiting there for her impatiently, calling her multiple times. But all his calls went unanswered. He was about to storm in when he received her call. If he had not feared being exposed, he would have stormed into the house already.

"Why are you yelling at me now?" Riya snapped, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I already told you to keep me away from this mess. But you pushed me into this. You told me to agree to this marriage to keep our relationship a secret. You told me to win Liam’s trust. I’m just following your order. Why are you mad now?"

Zachary slammed his fist on the steering wheel. Yes, he was the one who had pushed Riya into this. It was he who had asked her to get close to Liam and win his trust. He thought she was just a means to achieve his goal and that he would abandon her as soon as the purpose was served. But no – he couldn’t tolerate watching her with Liam.

"I told you to win his trust, not to sleep with him," he barked.

"Nothing happened between us..."

"Come out right away. Or you will regret it."

Beep

"What?" Riya looked down at the phone, her expression bleak. "Is he outside? Waiting for me?"

Chills crawled up her nape. "I’m done today. He’ll definitely kill me." She jumped out of bed, grabbed her bag, and dashed out.

"Miss, you are awake." A maid approached her with a smile. "Please have a seat. I’ll serve you breakfast."

"There is no time for that," Riya said in a hurry and bolted toward the door.

"But sir will ask about..."

"I’ll call him and apologize." Riya ran out without looking behind.

Inside the study...

Liam smirked as he looked at the laptop screen. He knew a drama would unfold in the morning, so he had already installed a spy camera in the guest room last night. But he didn’t know Riya would reveal all the secrets in just one phone call.

"Uh," he sighed, leaning back on his chair. "I tried so hard last night to make the truth come out of her mouth. But Zachary’s one phone call was enough to make her reveal everything. Zachary, Zachary – you have fallen for a woman like Riya. You are badly trapped."
