CHAPTER 69: CHAPTER: 69, HOW IT HAPPENED_2

Dainsleif was on his way towards Whiteburn city while Rex was silent, afraid the insufferable man would insult it again in the Narrator style.

"Hey... why do I feel like you cursed me just now?" Dainsleif asked.

"No, you must be imagining things in the dead of night." Rex excused.

Dainsleif took his excuse and began to plan out his next steps. "By the way, how do you work again? I forgot for some unknown reason." He asked.

"Okay, You need the short one or the long one."

"What is the difference?"

"The short one would be brief and tell you right away what you need to do to begin. The long one on the other hand needs ten whole Chapters to be explained including my history and history of all 16 layers and would make you overthink for the future." Rex stated, offering two options.

"Give me the short one. The Author can explain the lore later."

"’Okay. So I have 16 different layers, each having its own class and skills of the top tiers. To unlock each layer, you have to find suitable vessels and take their identity and live in that identity until you reach level 100 and pass the first tribulation before you can unlock the next layer.

"Every 10 stat points you cultivate within a layer, your actual stat would increase by 1 Red stat which is comparable to 50 normal stats. The maximum golden state you can gain from each layer is 10, meaning 160 golden stats on each section.

"Just in case, the effect of the Golden Stats would only apply when you are not in a layer. Once you activate a layer, you would be back to the beginning being weaker than a toddler and rise from the ground until you reach level 100 again." Rex Explained.

"Hmm, I understand. But what is this Vessel you are talking about?"

"It’s like someone’s identity. Either kill them and take their identity forcefully or you can make a deal with them which they have to pay with their life and identity as a price if you want to be righteous obviously. Otherwise the forceful method is less problematic in my opinion, so I would recommend that."

"So the person has to die one way or the other?"

Suddenly, they heard the nearby bushes rustle and footsteps approaching them. Dainsleif quickly summoned his ’Forgotten Fate’ sword, ready for any emergency.

As the footsteps approached closer, a bloodied and clearly injured young man rushed out of the bushes, his face showing desperation and dread. While running, he stumbled on a rock and fell forwards.

The young man was so injured that he could barely move his body and couldn’t even rise from the ground.

Behind him, three cloaked figures looking like assassins came out. They looked at the man lying down and saw that there was only one man other than them.

They sighed in relief and their leader at front signaled the two beside him to go and kill the stranger as they couldn’t have witnesses.

"Dain! Save the boy, I feel something from him. He can be of use to us." Rex said to him. Dainsleif nodded and prepared himself for the battle.

The two lackeys were quick to attack him and turned invisible for a few moments before both of them appeared right in front of him, aiming their daggers at him.

Dainsleif quickly used his Grandmaster rank swordsmanship and attacked the one at front while dodging the attack from his back. He then quickly distanced himself and looked at them.

The attacker at his back was in a blank state when he saw the person dodge, but what made him horrified was the bloodied sliced body of his companion.

"Thud!" A sound rang out, attracting the leader’s attention. The lying young man also looked up to see one of his pursuers’ bodies sliced in half with crimson blood illuminated by the moonlight splattered on the ground.

Everyone who witnessed the scene was taken aback. The leader’s eyes narrowed with weariness as he couldn’t believe what had just happened.

They all were transcendent above level 60, he himself was an Expert with level 66 cultivation, and yet, he knew he couldn’t slice through a human body like his companions with as ease as the stranger.

He then decided to take action as this might be a person with cultivation reaching level 80 or possibly even level 100.

Hope emerged in the young man’s eyes. The dazed assassin finally snapped and looked at Dainsleif with anger and resentment. He rushed forward in fury and attacked the person with his leader preparing a counter attack if the person was able to dodge the first one.

As Dainsleif was now able to see both the leader and the furious assassin clearly, his techniques were more refined with no sign of the previous urgency when the two attacked him suddenly.

Now his focus was clear and his mind made decisions clearly. With swift movements, Dainsleif calmly walked forward while the enraged man was rushing at him.

As soon Dain was close enough, he made a short dash and ignoring the dagger blade, he sliced the man’s body in half like the previous one and appeared behind him.

Behind him, the man stumbled forward, his upper half slid down to the ground first, and then his lower half wobbled for a second before ultimately falling down as well. His eyes held disbelief while taking his last breath.

The leader looked at the scene in shock, his pupils dilated with alarm and fear. Just who can be this person’ he asked himself. But he knew one thing, he had to escape... or he would face the same fate as his companions.

But before he could turn around, from the corner of his eyes, he saw the stranger right behind him holding the sword that took the lives of his companion.

Then the world spun, after which he felt his face crashing on a hard surface. His eyes caught the sight of his legs and the stranger walking towards their target before his vision turned dark.
