Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 260: Arrogant Lizard and Hunger
CHAPTER 260: ARROGANT LIZARD AND HUNGER
Gazing towards the red lizard coming out of the fiery debris, Scaly narrowed her eyes dangerously as she prepared herself for the inevitable confrontation. Feeling a sense of excitement running through her body as she stretched her now far larger wings. Not because she felt like stretching her wings, but because she wanted to show off her now larger wings to this first opponent since waking up. Not wanting to get beaten when it came to looking intimidating. After all, her opponent already had an awesome entrance, and she couldn’t fall behind when it came to looking cool.
Rawr...?
However, different from her, already ready for battle, the fire poison eating lizard didn’t react like she expected it to after seeing her. Instead of getting ready for battle, it instead just tilted its head looking over towards her with a clearly confused expression plastered all over its face before examining her in a way that told her without any question that the red lizard wasn’t the slightest bit afraid of her nor amazed by her wings like she had wanted by showing off her new pair of wings.
This lizard... It doesn’t see me as a threat!? How dare-
Rustle~
Complaining in her head at the audacity of the fire poison eating lizard and just about to launch the first attack towards this audacious opponent who dared to look down on her, Scaly found her train of thought being interrupted, as her opponent suddenly glanced around the top floor of the ancient stone watchtower before directly turning around to leave without the slightest bit of hesitation.
Not even bothering to give her a second glance as it directly left the way it had come. Disappearing out of sight before Scaly even had the time to react to this sudden new development, as her perceived first enemy ran away before the battle even began. Giving her no chance to test out her new strength in battle, while at the same time leaving her in a state of confusion.
Confusion because she had believed that the fire poison eating lizard had come up to the top floor of the ancient stone watchtower to fight with her. Only to find out that the arrogant lizard barely glanced at her for a few seconds before turning around to leave without attacking like she had originally been getting ready for.
If it had run out of fear, it would still have been acceptable to her, but it was clear to her that had not been the case.
I... What!?
Left in a state of utter confusion at this sudden development, Scaly could only stare towards the flaming remnants of the bookshelf that she had tilted over to block the passage leading up to the top floor of the ancient stone watchtower with a look of disbelief on her face. Unaware of what to do in this kind of situation.
Standing and allowing the fire poison eating lizard to get away would not be fitting, as this was the opponent she had been getting ready to face off against and use to measure her current strength; while following it would make her seem despera-
No! I can’t just allow it to run away!
Swoosh~ Thump~!
Shaking her head as she lowered her wings, Scaly banished any thoughts of allowing that arrogant red lizard just run away after looking down on her, as she jumped forward and began descending down the staircase chasing after the fire poison eating lizard that had already managed to reach all the way down to the ground floor by the time she began descending the tower. Not intending to let it get away-
Rustle~
However, by the time that she reached the bottom of the ancient stone watchtower, the fire poison eating lizard had already disappeared amidst the sea of purple worm grass, somehow managing to blend in with the purple colored purple even with its distinct red colored scales that should have stood out when compared to the sea of purple that was formed by the purple worm grass that surrounded the ancient stone watchtower on all sides.
But this was far from enough to discourage her, as Scaly flapped her now far larger wings and found herself easily lifting off the ground without the assistance of wind magic for the first time in her life. Wasting no time as she scanned through her surroundings for any sign of the fire poison eating lizard.
After all, even if it had somehow managed to blend in with the sea of purple worm grass covering the hill that the ancient stone watchtower was situated on top of, there was no way for it to hide itself after it left the hill. Meaning all she had to do was wait patiently for it to show up and fly down to get it the second it left the safety of the purple worm grass.
The problem here was... Although she wanted to wait patiently for the fire poison eating lizard to reappear, the hunger that she had managed to suppress so far began to slowly take over.
Even though she remained in full control of her own body, she understood from what she had gone through during her past evolutions that this would not remain the case for long, as hunger would soon enough consume her and make her seek out prey on her own without any regard for the enemy she was quietly waiting for.
Worse, she had a feeling that she would have to ensure she left the base of the ancient stone watchtower before that happened, as she had no idea how well her hunger-consumed self would manage to navigate through the invisible walls formed by the mist that restricted how high one could go.
Speaking of the mist, she had noticed that it had noticeably become thicker since she had decided to undergo her fifth evolution inside the ancient stone watchtower.
In the past, she could see at least two kilometers around herself, while now, she could barely see one kilometer around herself.
Concerning as this might be, Scaly didn’t really care too much about the mist becoming a bit thicker and more of a fog than a thin mist. All she cared about was the fact that the monsters that had been present when she had decided to undergo her fifth evolution were still around and even more numerous from what she could tell. Ensuring that there were more than enough around to fill up her stomach when it was time.
Now that she was looking at those monsters roaming around the open plains around the hill, she spotted a few especially delicious looking monsters among-
No! I Can’t... Give in... Have to... Endure...
Feeling the hunger already starting to partially take over as she could almost hear herself swallowing while focusing intently on a flock of especially delicious looking flying demon beasts who seemed to have just fallen inside the mist and found themselves unable to fly out no matter how hard they tried, Scaly did her best to keep herself in control while keeping an eye out for the fire poison eating lizard that could emerge at any moment.
Any moment...
Any... Moment...
Rumble~
Argh! I can’t! This is far too much! I will just find it later or hunt down another powerful monster to test out my new strength!
Flap~ Whoosh~
Feeling her stomach starting to scream out in protest after only a few minutes lingering around the base of the ancient stone watchtower keeping an eye out for the fire poison eating lizard that remained hidden amidst the sea of purple worm grass, Scaly found herself unable to hold back any longer, as she flapped her large pair of wings and began descending down the hill. Eyes already locked on an especially delicious looking monster who just so happened to be lingering at the very edge of the purple worm grass. Unaware of the danger rapidly approaching from above-
Chomp~! Ptsh~
And before it even had time to react, Scaly had already opened her mouth and chomped on it.
Rooar-!?
[Gained 202 Exp]
Barely giving it enough time to let out a pitiful roar filled with both disbelief and pain before it ultimately perished the second Scaly exerted a bit more force. Allowing her to soon enough swallow down the relatively weak monster with ease.
The only real problem she encountered being the fact that her mouth was still too small to swallow a monster whole, something she now knew for certain, as she in her hunger almost end up chocking to death on her prey due how she had first attempted to directly swallow this smaller monster by instinct.
Small as it might be to the current her, it was still around the same size as she had been before her fifth evolution, and it wasn’t easy for her to directly swallow a monster that was essentially only a little less than half her current body size without chocking to death along the way...
