A forced evolution (Final part)

While we were sleeping, I suddenly woke up and noticed that Lady Nyx was still up, ensuring we were safe.

"Oh, Rose, was I making too much noise?"

She asked me after she noticed I was looking at her while swinging her staff around.

Honestly, her fighting style was so elegant; there were no useless movements, but I could not understand which one she was using at the moment.

"No, I simply could not sleep."

"Really? What is bothering you?"

"For now, I don’t have anything in mind, but if I can, may I know what kind of style that one is?"

"What do you mean?"

"I have never seen anyone using a long weapon like a staff or lance and combining it with hand-to-hand combat, at least not among the Arachne. So I thought it was a fighting style known outside of this place."

"I doubt anyone other than me knows of this style."

"Why?"

"Simply because I was the one to create it. I adapted various fighting methods to it, and I didn’t teach it to anyone for the moment."

"Why didn’t you teach it?"

"Because it is still not complete, there are some flaws that I need to adjust."

"I see..."

"So what is bothering you?"

"I can understand you, but did you remember what I told you the day Eris introduced you?"

I could not hold back my tears after hearing what Lady Nyx said for the whole time she was there; I could not do anything to help her except prepare some black tea.

"You may think that doing only tea was not enough, but in reality, it was of great help to calm my mind after knowing what happened to Eris and what I was supposed to do, and it still helps me a lot now as well."

She saw through me; it seemed there was nothing I could hide from her.

"D... Do you maybe want to drink some?"

I asked her as I was hiccuping.

"Yes, of course, but today I don’t want to drink it alone."

"...Lady Nyx."

"At least when we are by ourselves, call me simply Nyx."

"Alright."

"Yes, what do you want to ask me?"

"Is there any moment that you feel scared, and is there anything you are afraid of?"

"Honestly, there are a lot of them; even now, I don’t know what lies ahead in this hallway, and even more, I’m afraid of going out of this dungeon."

"Why so?"

"To make it simple, I will be forced to fight the gods who long ago killed me. If it were for me, I would love to simply stay here and have an easy life, but even if I did, I would simply be postponing something inevitable. Do you think the millions of people waiting for me out there will eventually forgive me for my decision?"

"I think they will eventually do it; no one in this world can be angry forever for something."

"Haha, look at this; I got emotional for a moment. It is better if I wake the other two up so we can start moving forward."

’I never thought that lady Nyx had so much in her head; maybe even now she didn’t tell me everything.’

After Laddy Eris and the bodyguard woke up, we started walking through the hallway guided by Lady Nyx. We reached a metallic door with a large cavity in the center. On our way there, we encountered a few monsters that were not that strong. Lady Nyx asked Lady Eris to take care of them to see the results of her training in the past month. Lady Eris looked quite excited to show her result to her mother, and she defeated the meat-made monsters in no time with only her thread.

"You did well."

Lady Nyx said as she caressed her head.

"Great job, Lady Eris."

"Thank you for the compliment, Rose, but you don’t have to be so formal with me."

"Alright, everyone, should we open the door?"

Lady Nyx said as she walked closer to it to brute force open it, but the moment she tried to, she was electrocuted.

"What the fuck was that?"

"Mom! Are you okay?"

"Yes, there is nothing to worry about."

As Lady Eris was walking towards Lady Nyx, I noticed something strange was happening right above their heads.

"Lady Nyx, Lady Eris, run away from there! Something is falling right above your heads!"

They looked at the ceiling and saw a big ball of meat falling. Fortunately, Lady Nyx grabbed her daughter, spread her wings, and flew away from the place.

"Thank you, Rose, for alerting us in time."

"No problem."

"Mom, do you know what that is?"

"It is a meat golem."

"What!" x3

"You are sure it does not look like a golem."

"Look closely and wait for a moment for it to completely form itself... At least this is what some ordinary, brainless idiot who wants to show off their little strength will tell you to do to me. I would prefer to do this!"

She said before stretching her arm toward the changing ball, conjuring a sphere of darkness, and throwing it at the ball, but after she did, she fell to the ground.

"Mom...Mom, wake up!"

"Lady Eris, what is the situation?"

"After she suddenly fainted, Mom’s body started getting enveloped in this weird blue liquid."

"Understand, leave her with me; you and the boy have to defeat the golem before it’s too late."

"I entrust her to you; guard, come with me; we will defeat that thing."

"Roger that!"

Thanks to Lady Nyx’s first attack, the golem was not in any condition to fight back, so it didn’t take long before Lady Eris and the boy came back. I, on the other hand, had figured out what the problem was with Lady Nyx.

"Apparently, she is just sleeping."

"Wait, what?"

"You remember that because of a title, she has Lady Nyx, will undergo a forced evolution."

"And you think that is what is going on now."

"I think so; well, the only thing we can do is to wait for her to wake up by herself."

"You are right; let’s wait for the moment."

After a week, Lady Nyx didn’t wake up; instead, the jelly liquid around her had solidified. It was so hard and heavy.

’How long will she sleep for?’

I thought while being on the night watch, sitting alone in front of the fire.

’Now I understand how difficult it was for Lady Nyx to do this for more than three days in a row.’

(Bring her into the room.)

Suddenly, I started hearing a voice; it looked like I was not the only one since Lady Eris and the boy instinctively woke up upon hearing it.

"What was that?"

Lady Eris asked, coming out of the tent.

Out of nowhere, shadows started to accumulate in front of Lady Nyx’s body, shaping themselves into a somewhat human form.

Upon seeing it, Lady Eris got instantly angry.

"You again!"

"Eh? Lady Eris, do you know who this person is?"

"Not really, I just saw it once in a dream; it was this person, the one who put that mask in my face."

"..."

"What do you want this time? If you have anything to say, you can do it after getting away from Mom."

The shadow figure slowly walked away from Lady Nyx while holding his hands up.

"What do you want this time?"

(I want you to bring her into that room.)

"Why should I do as you say?"

(Your mother’s actual race is the first in this world. If you want to help her evolve quickly, she will need a lot of blood, and in that room, there is enough for her to evolve in just a couple of days.)

"How do we know that you did not prepare a trap in that room?"

(I can open it for you and let you check it, but if you don’t do anything, she may take over one year before finishing her first evolution.)
