CHAPTER 131: HISTORY BOOKS

’Again, there is nothing.’

[Just give up.]

In the library, I was sitting beside Selene, patting her head while looking at another book from the mountain of books before me.

A few hours ago, I decided to visit the library. It was one hour before sunrise, too far from the time I met Isaac so it wouldn’t make me suspicious if someone knew about him.

It’s better to be safe than sorry, isn’t it?

And now, I was starting to curse the government.

From reading that mountain of books with Glutton, I could start with a specific event.

There was an unknown war between the 4 races more than 220 years ago.

When exactly did it start? Unknown.

Any hints to why it even started? No.

Some names of participants who were still alive? None.

Something like — I don’t know, some deep details about it? Fucking nothing!

It was just too vague!

Only a few fights here and there, but nothing big.

How could a war between 4 main races have nothing like a big fight or millions of casualties?

The next part was even worse.

Demons.

170 years ago, they appeared out of nowhere.

Not a single book showed anything about how, where or why, but instead, they only showed what they probably did and some theories about them.

Of course, I couldn’t trust this information anymore, but it might be true, so I kept them in mind anyway.

The demons took advantage of the war and the weakened state of the races to start stealing the land.

They killed, raped, robbed, blackmailed, did everything that could be considered bad and eventually, took over around 40% of Eldoria, which included the entire southern part, in 50 years.

And they even built strange towers that corrupted the world’s mana to turn it into anti-mana.

The only thing that stopped their growth was when all the races finally united and formed a government. Since then, almost all the fights in history were equal without a real winner.

And here came a few problems.

The lack of information about the war between the 4 races. It was just a black void in all books.

Of course, I could understand that showing that information might cause many problems.

Imagine being a human and when you read a history book you realize that the kingdom beside you has committed a massacre in your homeland.

How are you supposed to work with them after knowing all these terrifying acts they did to your kind? You may even ignore everything and seek revenge, right?

Just for that, I couldn’t take that as a proof of something wrong happening in the government and the kingdoms. It was just natural.

But the demons’ part was the real problem.

There were many, way too many theories about them and the anti-mana that I couldn’t remember them all.

And the latest theory was only 2 years ago! It was saying that the demons might be actually invaders from another world which explained their strange energy, ha!

’I’m starting to think they are doing that on purpose. At least try to be more creative!’

How, even after 170 years of fighting them, no one knew about the demons’ origin and still making stupid theories?!

How did they appear out of nowhere with enough strength, numbers and knowledge to take over 40% of Eldoria’s land and build towers to turn mana into anti-mana?

It just didn’t make any sense!

I rubbed my head, exhausted from all the thinking.

’I don’t know anymore. Are they hiding those things for good reason or is Isaac right?’

Seeing plot holes in history was normal. It wasn’t enough to make me start rebellion, but it was enough to make me consider it.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have any other source of information.

The only 2 I could think about were Isaac and the other reincarnators.

For Isaac, he was also an untrusted source and might be only trying to manipulate me.

As for the other reincarnators, I didn’t know anything about them.

Maybe they were extras like me. Maybe they were among the main characters. Maybe they were teachers. Maybe they were cultivators. Maybe we had already met and didn’t know each other.

And the scariest one — maybe one or both of them already knew about me.

Why? Because I’m such a fool.

’That’s what I get for stealing earth inventions. My store is literally selling the earth’s food!’

What seemed to be a good idea to earn money ended up being the worst one ever!

The only way they wouldn’t recognize me would be if they weren’t from earth. It was definitely possible, but not certain.

’Well, there is nothing I can do, right?’

I’d think about that after meeting Isaac tonight. As for now, it was time to do something useful to get stronger quickly.

"Selene," I called while standing up, "I’m done now. Will you stay here?"

Selene stood up immediately and shook her head.

"No, I’ll follow you."

I raised an eyebrow, looking at her with confusion.

"I didn’t even say what I’m going to do."

"I’m still coming with you."

"...."

I stared at her for a moment before sighing.

"Okay then. Let’s go and see the academy’s dungeons. We need to get used to them before entering a real one."

"Mhm!"

•••

[The Dark Order]

"Start... the... meeting..."

Immediately, all the seats ignored Cecil and turned their gazes toward Isaac.

Their reaction was too natural, almost robotic as if they would kill themselves by a word from Kael.

And despite Cecil’s nature, even he wasn’t an expectation.

"Ahem," Issac cleared his throat and took a deep breath before starting,

"Originally, I was supposed to meet the 3 chosen ones in Elyndra and recruit them... but there was a problem."

The seats looked at him with confusion as he continued:

"Out of them, the one known as Raylin Crimson Bloodborne didn’t know my future title."

"What?!"

"How?!!"

Zack and Morrayne shouted in unison, their eyes wide open in shock and disbelief.

Isaac ignored them and continued:

"It’s either he has something that can counter me specifically, which is unlikely, or he isn’t a chosen one, which means—"

"—Mike has made a mistake," Julien cut Issac off and continued, letting out a depressed sigh, "Again..."

The weight of his words pressed heavily on all of them as they knew what that meant.

"...Is he losing his connection with Fate of Chaos."

Morrayne asked, but no one could answer.

They didn’t understand this matter so well, therefore they weren’t sure of it.

"If he is just another child of fate, then who is the fourth chosen?"

Uriel also asked, but just like the former question, no one could answer it.

An unknown chosen one was something they couldn’t afford to underestimate. There were supposed to be only 4, and each one of them could change everything.

"Tss, so what happened while talking to those 3? Did you convince anyone to join us?"

At Tharos’ question, Isaac finally spoke again.

"I still need to work more with Raylin. I told him to see the history books in the academy. If we are lucky, we may have another child of fate working under us. Unfortunately, we can’t know if he is a child of order or chaos."

Isaac paused for a moment and sighed.

"As for the real chosen ones. The girl chosen by Fate of Chaos refused. She even betrayed the demons and decided to work alone. When I tried to ask about her goal and plan, she somehow broke the dream, haha."

"But the man chosen by Fate of Order wasn’t as bad as her. He said that he will need more time to think, giving us some hope at least."

They nodded at his words, then Kael turned his head toward Julien.

"Old... Julien, what... about... the... celestials..."

As everyone looked at Julien, he brought his hand above the table, then out of nowhere, a severed head appeared.

It was the head of a woman, and her expression showed that she was under extreme pain and agony before her death.

"That’s their response I suppose. Sorry for disappointing you all, but they are just like the arrogant dragons — only care about themselves and the present, and can’t see the dangers swimming around our world."

*Bam!*

"Fuck!"

Zack slammed the table while cursing, then all the gazes turned to Kael as Uriel asked:

"Lord Kael, what is the plan now? Just order us."

"Haaa..."

Kael let out a long sigh, sending shivers down everyone’s spines.

He rested his head on his gloved hand and spoke with an aura of authority.

"We... continue... our... original... plan... without... them..."

"Even... if... no... one... helped... us..."

"Even... if... they... were... against... us..."

"We... will... succeed..."

For Kael, failing wasn’t even an option. He was going to do everything necessary to achieve their dream.

Even if he had to kill thousands, millions, or billions — he believed that they would be remembered as necessary sacrifices.

And he was ready to carry all the guilt himself.

"Soon... I’ll... visit... Elyndra... myself..."

"We... just... need... to... wait... that... accident..."

"This... way... children... of... Fate... won’t... die... and... I... won’t... need... to... hold... back..."
