CHAPTER 363: I WILL TURN YOU INTO A RAT
"Please tell me that they were at least dead?" Inez blurted out. She couldn’t even fathom how Tracy could forget something so important like that. Tracy was weird. Her emotional dynamics were strange but she was caring. This much was something that she understood.
Tracy turned her stormy eyes at her and Inez gulped. "Well, I have some news to tell you, sweetheart. They were not my priority. You were and I was not going to pay any attention to them when I didn’t know where you were and in what condition."
Inez felt her heart flip upside down a little.
Killian’s eyes narrowed. All the warmth and concern in his eyes was replaced by a hint of ferocity as he turned to look at her completely. "Answer her. Were they dead?"
"No. They were alive or as alive as they could be in that situation."
His face hardened. "You have to be kidding me." He had seen the vessels created by the witches and honestly, he knew that they would prefer death to whatever fucked-up condition it was called. He ran his hands through his hair before asking, "How many of them are alive? And where?"
"About three miles from the pack where you were at before. There is an abandoned warehouse right next to the seashore. That’s where they are at the moment. Doesn’t look like much from the outside but—the witch had expanded it from the inside. There are several arrays created within the warehouse." Tracy’s eyes drifted to Inez, whose face had gone pale, while Killian’s face had hardened into a chilly popsicle. "At least one of them was quite rational even after being morphed into something inhumane. Shifter, she must have been one. As for the rest, I cannot be sure. There is a good possibility that the witches tried to mix the humans and vampires with the shifters. But such a mutation cannot survive for long."
Finn sighed, and Dominic muttered an angry curse word. He looked horrified at the prospect that the witches had risen to power and they had been turning a blind eye to these disappearances all this time. Well, it was more on them than on me if she was being honest. So many lives could have been saved if they had just listened when everyone was screaming that there had been witch sightings in the city.
Or maybe he was just reacting because she had proven that he was an idiot like the rest of the council guys.
It could be either of them but no one was willing to pay attention to him at the moment.
Laxus stepped forward. He shared a glance with Killian and said, "I will go with Finn and Ajax. The three of us can find them; maybe if we leave now then —"
"There is no point." Killian shook his head. "Our pack members are still at Red Blood; you three might be able to rescue them. But it will take a long time; most probably the ones who are alive might be dead by then."
Laxus sighed. "I told you that we should have brought more people with us but you refused to listen. Now look at the situation we are in at the moment."
"It is better to leave them there lest someone turn the entire pack upside down. And I am not having it. Again," Killian breathed out heavily. He glanced at Inez and frowned as if he had seen something that he didn’t like and then pulled her closer to him. Raising her head, Inez realised that Dominic was standing way closer to her than he was before.
"We don’t need a rescue team," said Tracy as she snapped her fingers. A casual snap and the air in the room responded immediately. It made the air inside condense and change into a small whip that slammed into Dominic’s chest and sent him flying backward into the wall.
The impact made a satisfying thud. Nothing that would have hurt him but still a force enough to make him jolt out of his reverie or whatever one would call it. His oversized ego seemed to be just as rattled as his expression as he slammed into the wall. The things on the small cabinet scattered all over the floor. His expression was full of shock and fury as she slid down the wall in a comical manner.
His beta, Tao, stepped back as if he was on his way to bolt out of this room at the smallest possible explosion. Probably he believed that staying here was going to get him killed. It might be because, well, he didn’t quite do his job well in protecting his alpha.
"Did you think I was joking when I said that you need to stay away from her?" Tracy glanced at the man and spoke in a cold voice. "That I was being just dramatic for fun and don’t mean an actual harm?"
Silence hung in the air.
Killian was smirking from the side. "Oh— I love it when she does that to someone else."
At least someone was enjoying it. Inez on the other hand looked horrified and Scarlet. Well, she was way too quiet for some reason. Maybe she was still reelng in all the shock that she had gone through and was still recovering from it.
"You are no one to her," Tracy continued, ignoring the shocked look on Dominic’s face. "And she doesn’t want you. She said ’no,’ motherfucker; so you better get your act straight and stay away from her before I make you. Another stunt and you are getting sent to mars. Got it? Don’t you dare, make things difficult for me. Or for her."
Dominic’s eyes widened as he snapped his head towards Inez who turned her gaze away without saying anything.
He pushed himself off the ground with a growl. Bristling with barely contained rage as his hands clenched and unclenched as if he was deliberating whether to throw his fists at her.
"You have six seconds. So you better explain to me why I shouldn’t tear you limb by limb," he growled.
