"What happened?" Killian asked. He walked over and came to a stop beside Finn before ncing at the lump in the middle of the cell. His brows furrowed when he looked at the twisted form lying inside. In the dark, he couldn’t see the head or feet of whatever was lying inside the prison cell.
Though he knew that it was a human, it should be one, as the body inside did resemble one. But at the same time, it didn’t. Even with his shifter gaze, he was having a hard time seeing through the twisted mess in front of him and could not turn to look at Finn. "What is this?"
"We have a guess, but we cannot tell anything for the time being unless Third Eye is done with his research," replied Finn. He sounded tense, even with Tracy present in the same space as him; he didn’t rush forward to charm her up like he usually did.
"Third Eye? He is here?" questioned Killian as he took a whiff of the scent, and he did catch a few notes of Third Eye’s scent among all the other scents mingled. "Why is he here? Since when did we start calling Third Eye for interrogating trespassers?"
iCalm down. At least listen to what Finn has to say before you lose your temper. /i
His beta rolled his eyes at him. He usually did it when he thought that Killian was acting like an idiot or when he was determined to act like a know-it-all. Killian knew that very defiant glint in his eyes; he always had it when he was about to rebel against him. Usually, he had a reason for it. Killian hoped that Finn had it this time around as well because his temper was running way too low to listen to Finn’s nonsensical ifs and buts.
"We didn’t call Third Eye to interrogate this bastard. We called him because I fear that this thing is neither a shifter nor a vampire. If I am not wrong, this is more or less a prototype of what you will call an amorphous." Finn nced at the thing inside the cell with disgust.
As soon as he finished speaking, Tracy, who stood next to Inez, stepped forward and, ignoring the two men, she slid inside the prison cell without any apparent fear. The door opened on its own as if there was an invisible doorman standing behind it. Killian turned to look at Finn and asked, "Did you leave the door open?"
"I didn’t..."
iIt’s really weird... /ihis beast’s voice rumbled within him, and this time around, the voice permeated the pack bond, which meant that Finn heard him as well. Inez snapped her head up and looked at the two of them. She, too, had heard his beast’s voice, but she didn’t question anything. Instead, Inez stayed quiet, patiently waiting for his beast to finish speaking.
Killian turned and looked in the witch’s direction. "What’s weird?"
iThose eyes. I swear I saw them be thunderous—like stormy clouds. I don’t think she is a simple witch; I have never seen witches do that. /i
Killian’s eyes narrowed slightly. It was the kind of detail that he would never pay attention to, for he didn’t care about this witch.
iYou should. She is —I don’t know different from other witches. /i
"There is something wrong about this woman," he muttered, already having decided.
"You are just annoyed that she said that we didn’t imprint," Inez rolled her eyes. Killian’s beast words had shaken her slightly. She recalled Tracy’s eyes turning the colour of storm clouds thest time the two of them were together.
A witch whose eyes changed like the sky—was she just a witch or something else?
"She is not doing anything to harm anyone," interjected Finn softly, already bent on betraying his alpha. "She seems to be helping us, so why question her? Everyone has a secret or two."
"Like how you hate eating the skin of tomatoes?" Killian sneered from the side. Since the man was bent on stabbing with the knife, he might as well return the favour.
"You cannot eat tomato peels?" Tracy remarked as she stepped out of the cell and looked at him with a frown.
Finn stared at her with a face so red that Inez was sure that she had never seen him this red before. He stammered for a long time beforeing up with a straightforward reply, "I cannot eat the peels, but I am..I am fine with tomatoes."
"You are one strange man," Tracy stated without realising that she had just stabbed the man in the heart, or maybe she did know. The blow that she delivered was not small, and Inez noticed Finn stagger under the metaphorical arrow that pierced through his heart.
She then turned and nced at Killian. "Yup, it’s a failed prototype. A failed amorphous who was supposed to inherit the abilities of both the shifter and vampire, but ended up in quite a tragedy. I would have suggested sending this corpse to the council, but I believe that there is no point in doing so because the people of that council of yours—they are useless, aren’t they?"
"Wait, you mean to say that this thing was supposed to inherit the properties of both shifter and vampire?" Killian asked with a frown.
"Amorphous are not always shifters who can shift between various kinds of shifters, but also between species. At least that is what the theory the witches have at the moment," she nced at the man who had died a horrible death and shook her head. "It’s such a shame that he was injected with the venom of a vampire and then left to work his way around the poison that was infiltrating his body. To make things worse, they must have used the iblood-weaving spell, /iforcing the vampire venom into his body. He must have felt his body getting ripped apart—and with the healing malfunctioning, he must have suffered quite a lot. Look at the flesh bubbles; the scars reopened again and again."
"I believe that this shifter might be your own pack member. That’s why it came here; since it’s a failed prototype, the witches must have discarded him like a failed doll. Look around and see if you can find his family; thest thing you can do for him is give him a decent funeral."
