Chapter 125 Gold–Digger

    Chapter 125 Gold–Digger

    :

He wore a gray T–shirt and loose pants, giving off a youthful vibe. Plus, he was tall.

“Such a coincidence, we meet again,” he said with a smile as he walked over.

I also thought it was a coincidence. To run into someone twice in two days–even Romeo and Juliet took years to meet again. Could this guy be my true match?

As I was lost in thoughts, he sat down in the chair next to me, resting his chin on his hand and smiling at me. “Are you here alone?”

I nodded. “Yeah, just here to buy something.”

“I’m alone too,” he said with a smile, ncing toward the door. “Let me treat you to something.”

“Thanks, but I’m good. I was actually nning to leave and grab a bite at a restaurant.”

“Oh!” He seemed a little disappointed, but then he quickly ran to the front desk to grab a pen and paper. A momentter, he ced a sticky note in front of me. “Here’s my name and contact info. I’m in Sylvania. Are you from Craneport?”

“No, I’m from Hanzora,” I replied honestly.

A smile briefly crossed his face. “So, we’re not that far apart.”

I looked at his name–Jace Rayner.

It was a rare surname, and I couldn’t help but stare at him, a bit surprised.

    He looked slightly embarrassed.

Suddenly, his phone rang. He nced at it, looking a bit annoyed. “I have to go now. My grandfather’s here for a doctor’s appointment, and I came to buy him a gift. Next time I’m in Sylvania, can I visit you in Hanzora?”

I had intended to shake my head, but in the end, I nodded. “Sure, we can catch up when you

    have time.”

Jace seemed pleased. He got up, said goodbye, and left.

After he left, I stood up to go but didn’t take the paper he gave me.

If we were meant to meet again, we would. Besides, he was too young, and it didn’t feel

I wandered until around 4 p.m., when Shawn called to say he was going back. He’d booked a flight and asked me to meet him at the airport, as he had already packed my things.

When I arrived at the airport, Shawn was sitting in the VIP lounge, opening hisptop to check on work.

Seeing me, he closed theptop, walked over, and said, “Where did you go? Not even a call to let me know.”

I looked at Shawn, and my good mood vanished in an instant. Although he’d been behaving bettertely, just thinking about his dirty deeds with Queena made the few remaining feelings I had for him feel like money dropped in a sewer–whether I took it or not, it was painful either way.

Shawn frowned slightly and said, “Didn’t we agree to go see the house today? You didn’t answer your phone. Are we not getting it anymore?”

“We are!” I blurted out. “Let’s go next week. I can pick out the floor n first.”

Seeing that I was finally paying attention, Shawn chuckled with amusement. “Gold–digger.”

    I just stared at him.

On the way back, Shawn was quieter. I knew he was feeling the pressure with all the work on his te. It all stemmed from his ambition to umte wealth as quickly as possible.

But that was his ambition. In his previous life, he spent little on mepared to what he made. I hadn’t even received a fraction of what he had freely given to the Queena’s family. So now, his hard work was all about securing a better future for Queena and her family.

I didn’t feel the need to pity him.

When we got back to Hanzora, it was getting dark. Summer was about to hit its peak, and Yuna

was about to start her summer break.

As we arrived home, Shawn mentioned he missed his daughter and asked if I wanted to join him for dinner at his mom’s.

I told him I was feeling a bit tired and decided to stay in. He didn’t insist and went by himself.

Around 10 p.m., Shawn came back, carrying a sleeping Yuna. Heid her down in her room, and when he noticed I hadn’te out, he came to knock on my door.

I was lying back in the rocking chair by the floor–to–ceiling windows, doing a face mask. Shawn lowered his voice and said, “Yuna’s home. Aren’t you going to see her?”

“She’s home, so what?” My tone was cold.

“Tiffany, you don’t look like a mother anymore,” Shawn said, his anger rising unexpectedly. He strode over, standing over me, staring down. “Yuna’s not even seven. How can you have this attitude? Are you mad at her, or are you mad at me?”

I looked iat /ihim in silence. Shawn had never been in my shoes, so he couldn’t understand my pain, and I understood that.

But love is something that either exists or it doesn’t. You can’t fake it.

A look of disappointment flickered across Shawn’s face, silently reprimanding me for not being ipetent.

“Tiffany, I allow you to be yourself, but first and foremost, you’re a mother. I hope you don’t forget your responsibilities.” Shawn might let me handle other things my way, but when it came to Yuna, he wouldn’t budge an inch.
