Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?
Chapter 533 - 43 Half-elf Girl Also Needs Guidance
CHAPTER 533: CHAPTER 43 HALF-ELF GIRL ALSO NEEDS GUIDANCE
Peggy was well-suited to be a maid.
Her physical traits as a member of the Blood Clan meant she hardly ever felt tired. Combined with her naturally quiet and docile personality, she seemed to possess a unique talent for caregiving.
Take the rocking chair for example, she could simply push the rocking chair without a change in expression for an hour, which soon lulled Aske into a comfortable sleep with its rhythmic motions.
Even after the squad leader had fallen asleep, Peggy didn’t stop her movements but continued to gently sway the chair while staring blankly at Aske’s face.
She suddenly felt that it might not be such a bad thing if time would just stop forever right now.
She really wanted to stay by the squad leader’s side, accompanying him till the end of time...
Just then, the elevator door opened.
Peggy looked up somewhat blankly to see Medea returning with two little girls. Holding one in her left hand and another in her right, she seemed very much the motherly type with a broad smile on her face.
"Why has this guy fallen asleep again?" Medea frowned as she looked at Aske on the rocking chair.
Peggy didn’t answer but merely displayed a scornful expression that said, "I knew you wouldn’t understand him."
"Who says I don’t understand him?" Medea rolled her eyes, "Why sleep on the rocking chair? I’ll take him back to the bedroom on Fire Island."
"What are you doing!" Seeing Medea reach out to pick him up, Peggy quickly stepped forward to block her.
If Medea took him away, the problem would no longer be about where Aske slept, but who he slept with.
"I’m carrying him to Fire Island," Medea said with an innocent expression, "Do you want to help?"
"Help? Yes! I want to help!" Peggy quickly responded, "Shall I lift the hands, and you lift the feet?"
"I’ll support him from the left side, and you support him from the right," Medea said, barely holding back a smile. Lifting hands and feet, what nonsense! It’s not like we’re carrying a corpse!
So, the two girls supported Aske from either side and pulled him from the rocking chair.
Then Aske woke up.
"What are you guys doing?" Aske looked bewildered as the two girls held him on each side, much like court officers holding a suspect.
"Nothing..." Medea and Peggy had just spoken when Aske put on a stern face, displaying a squad leader’s authority,
"What time is it? Have you completed today’s training plan yet?"
"Weren’t you the one who took me for practical training this afternoon?" Peggy exclaimed in shock.
"Practical training is practical training, but does that mean we skip the daily training?" Aske retorted.
"I!@#¥%..." Peggy screamed internally, offering no rebuttal, and dejectedly headed to Fire Island.
"And you, Medea." Aske turned around, "Nora is about to level up to Lv.10, you and Eleanor keep an eye on her, especially for mental issues."
"Uh-huh." Medea was noncommittal, simply folding her arms and saying, "Aske, you seem a bit slack lately? You weren’t like this before."
"It’s not slacking," Aske replied, "it’s a rhythmic adjustment."
"After all, even a Titan of Iron can’t handle being on edge all the time."
"Oh?" Medea grinned and wrapped her arms around his neck, "Then the cold way you usually treat me, shouldn’t that be adjusted too? Even an Enchanting Demon will wither and die without being cherished~"
"I’ll give you three seconds..." Aske coldly raised three fingers, but before he could finish, Medea had already teleported to Fire Island.
This guy sure knows how to escape quickly. Thinking this, Aske turned his authoritative gaze toward Mia and Miel.
Even in front of the Anti-Christ, the two young girls couldn’t help feeling a bit anxious.
"I’ll start training right away!" Mia raised her hand first, but Aske tapped her forehead.
"What training? You should advance first! The ingredients you got from Rasul last time, Medea has already made the Magic Potion," said Aske. "Go back and wait for your sister Nora to advance, then look for her."
He ruffled the young girl’s hair, messing it up like a bird’s nest, and Mia didn’t dare to resist; she could only sheepishly say "okay" and teleported to Fire Island.
Aske then looked at Miel and was about to speak when he noticed she seemed to have something heavy on her mind.
"Aske," Miel asked softly, "do you believe that something like destiny really exists?"
"Destiny?" Aske was somewhat puzzled. What’s with the team recently? First Eleanor, then Nora, and now Miel is also asking deep questions; it seems they all need some psychological guidance from me now.
"What I mean is, are the things that will happen in the future already predetermined and unchangeable?" Miel asked anxiously, "Remember when we left Constantinople last year, that old man from Dragon Country also made a similar prophecy, right?"
"If there’s such a prophecy saying you’re destined to become something, should you embrace it, or should you try to resist it?"
"Sit." Aske pointed to a small stool next to the rocking chair.
Miel obediently sat down beside him, placing her hands on the armrests of the rocking chair, her chin resting on the soft crook of her arm, and her long eyelashes fluttering as she looked expectantly at Aske.
"First off, dismiss the notion of destiny. You’re asking if the things that will happen in the future are already set," Aske chose his words carefully, "and I can tell you."
"Yes."
After all, over this past year, the direction of world affairs mostly aligns with the main plot of ’Song of Iron and Fire.’ Except for Constantinople being conquered earlier by the Crusaders due to the absence of players, other storylines haven’t changed significantly.
The East Solomon Empire still fell, Jingluo cried; even without RMB magnates, Olympia City still survived; Divine Luo’s Emperor Otto, despite not being driven half-mad by players, still challenged the Church Court and was suppressed, regret plastered everywhere in big character posters.
Then, next year, the Hafsi Dynasty in the South Continent will probably still follow the main storyline through the Gibraltar Strait, unleashing an Undead Heavenly Disaster on the Iberian Peninsula. This is because the Church Court, to cope with Divine Luo’s defiance and the destruction from the Magic Tide, had to consolidate their defenses, leaving a power vacuum at the edge of their territory; this isn’t something players can change.
Only, the once invincible Banshee Queen Minerva, now turned into the Half-elf Gunner Miel, so the intensity of this Undead Heavenly Disaster will definitely decrease as, after all, the scattered Undead Wizards of Mauritania alone aren’t really strong enough to stir up much trouble, though native Iberian forces are weak too.
"What is called destiny, or the events that are going to happen, actually heavily depend on the present," Aske responded, "In fact, no soothsayer is needed—even those sensitive to international political climates can accurately foresee most developments. Black swan events are, after all, rare."
"However, an unchangeable destiny doesn’t exist. If during the low tide of the Magic Tide, the global trend depends on the power balance between nations, then as the Magic Tide rises, strong and few High Rank Transcendents will begin to deeply intervene and influence the direction of the world."
"Miel, this world is ultimately unequal. A decision from those in power can dictate the destinies of thousands of ordinary people. If there really is any destiny, it’s likely just the collective will of those in power and not some mysterious existence."
"In the past, due to political inertia, it was very difficult for ordinary people to become powerholders, it might even require the political network of two or three generations of families; however, in the near future, changes brought by the Magic Tide have already emerged. The so-called powerholders will gradually shift from political families inheriting ancestral prestige to true Demigod powerhouses."
"So, want to become stronger?" Miel murmured.
"Yes," Aske said, "Only by becoming stronger can you possibly master your own destiny, Miel."
"I understand," Miel said earnestly, "I will become stronger, Aske."
If there really is such a destiny.
I will never let you face an ending like Natalie’s.
