Rise of The Demon General
Chapter 552. The Immortal God of War in Action
CHAPTER 552: CHAPTER 552. THE IMMORTAL GOD OF WAR IN ACTION
"Our world’s survival...? What kind of bullshit are you spouting about?" Jiang Tong asked.
"Explaining to you will be too troublesome. Not that you will believe it, anyway," Xuang Feng said.
Liu Xun came beside Jiang Tong and whispered, "General..."
He gestured at their army. The situation wasn’t going well for them. With the frontline soldiers unable to engage the enemy freely, they could only rely on the backline archers to kill the enemy’s mid-line. It was utterly ineffective. Battling with such a handicap against a force that outnumbered them, it was only a matter of time before they were defeated.
Jiang Tong understood Liu Xun’s concern. They didn’t have the luxury to chat.
"You seem to worry about your troops back there," Xuang Feng said. "But believe me when I say that your concern is only the tip of the iceberg."
Xuang Feng made a hand gesture. That gesture seemed to be a signal, as the troops below them began to do something. The weird wagons that they saw earlier were arranged in a line. The troops did something to the wagons, and they transformed. A long barrel came out of each wagon, while four limb-like appendages appeared from the sides. These appendages had sharp ends, and they stabbed into the ground. The long barrels aimed at where Echos Army was.
"What are those?!" Jiang Tong demanded.
"You will find out soon," Xuang Feng replied.
The troops put a large metal ball into a hole by the base of the barrel. They then stuck a talisman on a plate under the hole. The talisman glowed. Words of power flared around the wagon as the talisman exploded. The explosion didn’t wreck the wagon, though. The words of power produced energy that guided the blast into the hole. The concentrated force of the explosion threw the metal ball inside the barrel out the other end. Despite having the blast channeled into the barrel, the recoil still shook the wagon. If not for the four appendages anchoring the wagon to the ground, it would have probably flung back by the force.
The metal balls flew straight and far. The energy dome that shielded Jiang Tong and the others from passing through didn’t stop these metal balls. They were so fast that Jiang Tong’s followers floating in the air couldn’t react or do anything to the balls. The balls continued in the air and passed above Khode’s puppet mob. They then fell amidst the Echos Army.
Upon impact with the ground, the balls exploded. Their explosions were not normal fiery blasts, though. The explosions brought forth various elemental calamities.
One ball transformed the area in its vicinity into a rocky mountain. The soldiers within the blast area were crushed by this mountain. Those with strong enough constitutions resisted the crush, but they were entombed under the heavy mountain, unable to leave.
Another ball terraformed the blast radius into a lush forest. Weaker cultivators were killed by having their bodies impaled by tree branches and vines, while stronger ones with high defense were entangled by the curling branches and vines.
Explosions containing other elements marked the other blast sites, and they were not limited to the divine elements. Some discharged infernal elements. Wind blades, lightning storms, gravity crushes, icy coffins, and there was even a ball that conjured a dark world that blinded and corroded everything within its scope.
That one barrage of attacks took out a considerable number of Echos soldiers. The Martial Realm Echos Soldiers floating near the strange wagons that fired those elemental balls looked with concern as Khode soldiers loaded another metal ball into each of the firing wagons.
"How do you like our Yuanxu Cannons?" Xuang Feng asked Jiang Tong. "Those are the pride of Khode’s tech specialists."
The Echos Army was already at a disadvantage from the start. The Yuanxu Cannons turned the situation even worse for them. Jiang Tong knew that they were in a race with time.
"Hmph! I will show you what I do to that pride of yours."
Jiang Tong grabbed a pair of large bronze balls hanging by the sides of his waist. As he did, words of power flared on the surface of those balls. The balls then melted into bronze liquid.
"Metal molding," Xuang Feng uttered. "It is one of the two special arcane arts you are famous for, but that won’t help you penetrate our formation shield."
Jiang Tong didn’t bother to say anything in response. The two liquified balls had changed shape and now became two long lances that stuck on his two hands. He brought his hands together, and the lances merged, forming an even bigger lance. This lance started making a drilling motion. Jiang Tong thrust this drilling lance into Khode’s energy wall.
The energy wall flared as it resisted the assault. Xuang Feng looked to his side. His people, who were holding the large talismans that formed the energy wall, seemed to be struggling. They exerted their aether. Words of power floating around the talisman intensified as they reinforced the energy wall.
Seeing that, Xuang Feng turned back to Jiang Tong and said, "Your effort is pointless. You will never breach our wall."
"Is that so?" Jiang Tong replied. As he spoke, the bronze drill changed color. The silver color of his skin slowly crept from his hand into the drill. Soon after, the entire drill became silver. Following the color change, the drill’s spinning speed increased. The energy wall it was trying to penetrate flared even brighter. This time, it also vibrated.
Xuang Feng could see that the energy wall was struggling to resist Jiang Tong. He yelled to his people who controlled the barrier, "Don’t let him breach the shield. Give everything you have!!"
"Haaaa...!!" Jiang Tong roared as he exerted even more strength. His drill pushed into the shield. The shield was stretched like it was a layer of paper.
"Ahh...!!!" One of Khode’s soldiers holding the large talisman yelped as the talisman in his hand burst into flame. This soldier was positioned closest to where Jiang Tong tried to penetrate. When that happened, the shield gave in. Jiang Tong pierced through and created a hole in the shield.
"Get in! Follow the general...!!" Liu Xun exclaimed. He was ready with his bow. He fired several arrows that followed behind Jiang Tong. These arrows spread out once they passed the hole. They targeted nearby enemies and kept them busy while his comrades slipped through the hole.
"Protect the talisman bearers!" Xuang Feng waved his sleeve and slapped the arrow that targeted him. He rushed to the Khode soldier whose talisman was destroyed. That same soldier had already been pierced by Liu Xun’s arrow. His body was currently dropping to the ground.
Xuang Feng took his position and revealed a large talisman, the same as the one held by the other shield barriers. He channeled his aether into the talisman, and it reacted with the shield before the entire formation unraveled. Thanks to his quick action, the shield held. The hole Jiang Tong had created was quickly closed again.
By then, Liu Xun and many others had entered. Unfortunately, not many managed to. The enemies inside the shield outnumbered them.
"Target the talisman bearers!" Liu Xun instructed. He continued to fire his arrows. They flew toward the closest talisman bearer other than Xuang Feng.
"I won’t let you!" Xuang Chao put himself in the arrows’ path. He held a curved saber with one hand. His other hand held a talisman. The talisman unleashed a torrent of winds that knocked all the arrows in his vicinity.
Jiang Tong’s men went for the talisman bearers to disrupt the shield so they could let more of their comrades in, but Jiang Tong himself went for different targets. The Khode soldiers down there were done loading the balls into the Yuanxu Cannons and were ready to fire them.
The big drill in his hands liquefied again before transforming into a different shape. This time, it turned into a silver bow and arrow. He fired the arrow, which struck the second closest Yuanxu Cannon. The bow in his hand then transformed into an axe, which he used to cleave the cannon directly below him.
His attacks broke the cannons into pieces. Without pausing a breath, the axe in his hand turned into a javelin, which he threw in the direction of another cannon opposite from the one hit by his arrow. As for his silver arrow, it flew back to him as soon as it hit the target.
The silver javelin swiftly destroyed another cannon before flying back to Jiang Tong as well. In one fell swoop, he broke three Yuanxu Cannons. Sadly, he was only one man. Destroying three cannons before they were fired was his limit. The other Yuanxu Cannons, further away from him, proceeded with the firing.
Khode soldiers and battle puppets around the destroyed cannons immediately rushed to Jiang Tong. They all unleashed their attacks, which landed on him. Yet, he didn’t seem perturbed. The silver arrow and silver javelin returned to his hands, and they transformed into two long blades.
His body spun and created a hurricane. When the hurricane subsided, the soldiers and battle puppets were in pieces.
"I will kill every last one of you, you Khode filth! I will make you regret ever setting foot on Echos’ soil...!!" He roared.
