CHAPTER 380: TWO V/S ONE (2)

Third Person’s POV

As this happened, Ethan’s crimson irises burned with an even darker light, and the second knife spun from his hand and streaked toward the expressionless werewolf girl below like a flash of blue lightning.

Her platinum eyes widened, and a guttural, low roar broke from her throat that seemed to be carrying the primal air of an enraged beast.

In her defense, she crossed her slender arms in front of her chest and then from her ten fingers extended ten shimmering claws of pure white energy, claws that seemed to waver between the tangible and the ethereal.

Just as they formed, Ethan’s knife arrived, and with a shriek of rending air, they clashed.

The impact sent her small frame flying backwards like a ragdoll hurled by a giant.

She tumbled across the ground with dirt scattering in her wake, while cracks spider-webbed across her glowing claws.

Fragments of white light could be seen shattering from her fingers like fiery sparks, and as she tried to push herself up, she winced as the creeping chill of Ethan’s knife still spread up her hand, and a bitter cold threaded with shadow burrowing into her wrist.

Feeling the threat and looking at her condition, a guttural roar tore from her lips.

She gathered her energy and instinctively tried to expel the invasive frost, but her instincts screamed, and she froze because a second knife was already arcing towards her forehead.

Alarm jolted through her body, and she instantly abandoned her attempt to purge the darkness.

She clenched her sharp teeth until her jaw ached and forced everything she had into her hands.

Her claws flared and elongated to half a foot each and slashed upward in a desperate frenzy.

Ice and sharp streaks of her energy collided again and again, and sparks of frost and fragments of white scattering like a storm of broken stars.

At last, the knife fractured into shards of blackened ice, but her reprieve was fleeting because Ethan was already closing in with two knives, each gleaming between his fingers of his hands and his expression was carved in the mask of merciless calm.

Without pause, he unleashed all four at once, and their deadly arcs formed a net that allowed no escape.

The petite girl roared, and this time she sounded less like a human and more like a beast pushed to its edge.

She struck, and her claws flashed as she met the onslaught head-on.

The first blade shattered, but the second broke her claws completely and exploded into shards of ice that clattered around her like glass.

Her hands had numbed and had darkened completely till her wrists, and it seemed as if someone had painted them with the darkest black.

But she couldn’t feel anything as the cold had already robbed her of the sensation of her hands, and she could no longer feel her own fingers but only the creeping cold tightening its grip.

Seeing herself in such a state, rage flared in her eyes and, to Ethan’s surprise, drowned out the fear she had started to feel.

Her roar rose sharply with a wild beast air, and in that moment, something primal awoke in her.

From her back, a phantom wolf’s head burst forth. Its fur was as pale as moonlight while its fangs dripped with power.

It didn’t waste time in any sort of aura farming and immediately lunged at the remaining knives with savage precision.

Ethan’s eyes flickered, and his surprise broke through his stoicism.

The wolf’s head moved not like a construct, but like a living thing and seemed almost... intelligent.

Seeing it, a buried memory that had already been buried in the back of his mind stirred deep within him suddenly.

His mind threatened to drift, but he crushed it as this was not the time to daydream. He had an obligation to thrash some unruly brats and rescue his cat.

While he was thinking this, the wolf spirit’s fangs gleamed, and clamped down with terrible force.

Instantly, cracks started to spread like spiderwebs along the knives’ surfaces, and small shards of it began splintering beneath its bite.

To any observer, especially to the previously arrogant werewolves, it seemed for a moment that the beast head would succeed.

But then the knives pulsed and ignited with an eerie mix of breathtaking blue and eerie dark glow.

In the next instant, they exploded.

The white wolf’s head was instantly ripped apart mid-snarl and dissolved into fragments of light that vanished completely back into the werewolf girl’s back.

The short-ranged explosion detonated with a vicious crack and tore through the air.

The shockwave shredded the petite wolf girl’s defenses and flayed her delicate face and neck with countless bloody lacerations.

The wounds were jagged, raw, and were already an oozing blackness as the creeping chill of Ethan’s dark ice began to gnaw at her nerves, while a frigid numbness spread through her veins like poison at the same time, making her limbs quiver uncontrollably.

Her platinum-gray eyes widened in disbelief and fear at last glimmered in those expressionless orbs that had seemed unshakable before, and for the first time, the unflinching doll-like mask cracked.

Ethan’s lips curled into a sharp grin, and the crimson in his eyes deepened as he stepped forward, ready to finish this before she could resist futilely again.

But before his hand could close around her, the air itself screeched.

A volley of thin, needle-like bone spurs erupted from the ground and the trees around him and hissed through the clearing like a deadly rain.

It caught him a little off guard as they came at him from every direction, fast and merciless.

Ethan’s gaze hardened, and his pupils narrowed to razor-thin slits.

With a flash of ruthless intent, he drove his boot into the wolf girl’s stomach.

The impact of his kick cracked the silence like thunder as she was flung across the clearing, her petite frame crashing through the underbrush.

A spray of blood arced in the air and splattered scarlet across her torn clothes and stained the pale earth beneath her.
