CHAPTER 101: CHAPTER 101: WE’RE HAVING A FIRM OUTING—WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

-

In the morning, Summer Nolan signed for an oversized bouquet of vibrant purple tulips at the front desk.

The beauty was breathtaking.

"Attorney Nolan, who’s apologizing to you? These flowers are stunning, the sender must be really sincere," the receptionist said to her with a smile.

Not far away, Elias Spencer, who was about to leave, heard the receptionist’s words and looked at the glaring yellow roses.

Summer didn’t see him. She fiddled with the flowers and curiously asked, "Do purple tulips mean an apology?"

"Yes, their flower language is ’apology, regret, and cherishment,’ which adds an extra layer of ’valuing the relationship’ compared to yellow roses.

The person who sent you the flowers is expressing ’guilt for hurting you and hoping to make amends,’" the receptionist said confidently.

Summer just felt her privacy was being laid bare, coughed slightly, "Focus on work, stop worrying about useless stuff."

Just then, Elias Spencer walked over with long strides, glanced at her flowers, raised an eyebrow, and in a cool, slightly sarcastic tone asked:

"Who did something to Attorney Nolan to send such a big bouquet as an apology?"

Summer was startled by his sudden appearance, especially since he heard the receptionist’s words!

The feeling of being caught returned, making her a bit uneasy. She forced a calm smile,

"A... former classmate, said something bad about me in front of other classmates, and I found out, so he sent apology flowers."

"Which classmate?" Elias clearly didn’t believe it, could it have been Ian Sterling?

But last night he had bodyguards stationed under her building, and they said she didn’t go out last night.

Could Ian have been waiting at her place all along?

Were they together last night? What did he do to apologize?

"... Even if I told you, you wouldn’t know them."

Once again, this man made Summer feel guilty and nervous. She swallowed silently, then suddenly steadied herself, crossed her arms, and said with a smile,

"Didn’t expect Attorney Spencer to be quite the gossip."

After saying so, she picked up the flowers and quickly returned to her office, closed the door, and hurriedly searched for a card in the flowers.

She needed to get rid of the evidence fast!

If Elias found any clues, it would cause more trouble—

Finally, she found Ian’s handwritten card in the flowers, opened it, and glanced at it. He said it wasn’t deliberate last night, hoping she’d forgive him—

Just as Summer was about to tear it up, the office door suddenly opened. She turned to see him coming in and immediately slipped the card into a folder.

"Stop running into my office, Raymond Dawson already suspects us!"

Elias Spencer approached her and asked, "Was Ian at your place last night?"

Summer could only play the charm card, hanging her hands around his neck, pouting, "What would he be doing at my house?"

She poked his chest again, "Can you stop making wild guesses all the time? What, are you addicted to catching me in the act?"

Elias removed her hands, rummaged through the flowers several times, didn’t find a card, and then took out his phone, directly calling her mother—

Seeing this, Summer’s mouth twitched violently, she really wanted to kick him a few times!

As his call connected, and hearing her mother’s voice inside, her heart leapt to her throat!

"Attorney Spencer, what’s the matter?" Mrs. Nolan asked.

"Aunt, Ian’s phone is missing. Could it have been left at your place last night?" Elias asked.

Mrs. Nolan found it strange, if Ian’s phone was missing, he would call to ask himself, why would Attorney Spencer be calling?

Summer suddenly coughed, "Cough..."

Mrs. Nolan heard her daughter coughing inside and quickly realized, could it be Attorney Spencer being jealous and doing a spot check?

"Ian didn’t come to our house last night, how could his phone be here? Let him look elsewhere."

Hearing her mother’s response, Summer’s lips tugged upwards slightly in appreciation. She adored her mom, she was so clever!

"Alright." Elias looked at her and hung up the phone.

"Go ahead, check again more thoroughly?" She crossed her arms and looked at him, coldly sneering.

He coughed lightly, put his hands on his hips, changed the subject coolly, "These flowers are ugly and smelly, have your assistant throw them out later."

Summer didn’t respond to him, suddenly grabbed his tie, and sneered at him, "Why don’t you set up surveillance at my house? Monitor me 24/7?"

Elias looked at her, raised an eyebrow, "Sure."

"Sure my foot!" She smacked him with his tie, exerted dominance.

He glanced at his watch, had a client meeting at a coffee shop, "Let’s have lunch together at noon, if you dare skip out again and sneak off to eat with that man, I’ll deal with you tonight!"

After warning her, he suddenly pulled her closer by the back of her neck and bit her lip before leaving.

"..." Summer was stunned, why had he been randomly kissing her lately?

Catching in the act, he’s becoming more adept at it.

In front of him, she felt powerless—can she even get this revenge smoothly?

Summer couldn’t even imagine if he knew Ian lived next door, what sort of madness would he unleash?!

"Right, I can’t let him keep catching me and causing trouble, why can’t I catch him and mess with him?"

"Funny thing is, why hasn’t Iris been looking for him much lately?"

"Find a time to give her a little nudge?"

-

The next day, all law firm employees without significant work were suddenly going on a team-building trip to a scenic spot in the suburbs of the city.

This was Summer’s suggestion to Raymond Dawson, in preparation to wrest a case from her dear ex-boyfriend.

The firm hired a big tour bus, and no one was allowed to drive their own cars; they had to show team spirit and obey team management.

Summer wore a white sports outfit, her long straight hair tied high, exuding youthful vitality. As she boarded the bus, everyone stared at her, offering various praises.

Elias Spencer sat alone in a row, signaling her with his eyes to come over. Summer glanced at him and chose the seat opposite, parallel to him.

What a joke, the whole firm was here, if she sat next to him, those people would definitely gossip.

Elias saw she didn’t come over, displeased, but had nothing to say.

Soon, another person boarded wearing a white sports outfit and carrying a single-shoulder bag— it was Ian Sterling!!!

Seated in the fourth row, Summer spotted him immediately, blinking in surprise, why did he suddenly show up?

Elias naturally saw him too, his cool face slightly chilled.

"Could you make some room for me?" Ian asked politely, standing next to Summer.

Summer sat still, looking at him, as she was still mad about last night, her tone a bit cold, "What are you doing joining our firm’s outing?"

Well, well, before she was worried about Elias causing trouble, speaking out of turn, and now she’s worried about this man doing the same—

Hmm, very well, just great, are you trying to wear her out mentally?

"Cough... I haven’t traveled in a while, thought I’d join you guys for some fun, I called Director Dawson, and he said I’m welcome to come along."
