CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: GIRLFRIEND VISITS A BROTHEL, BOYFRIEND PAYS THE FINE

Officer Spencer heard the phone number she reported for the second time, raised his eyebrows slightly, couldn’t help but glance at her, and went out to call the number using a dedicated landline ——

More than twenty minutes later, Elias Spencer arrived at the station with the fine, paid the money, stood to the side with arms crossed, watching her being reprimanded and educated by Officer Spencer, his expression cold ——

It was hard to guess what he was thinking.

Summer Nolan glanced at him, and it felt like thousands of horses were galloping through her mind!!

She just felt utterly embarrassed but didn’t dare to talk back to the officer at all.

After the reprimand, Officer Spencer looked at Elias Spencer and suddenly asked her, "You need your family to pick you up, what is Attorney Spencer to you?"

Summer Nolan glanced at the aloof Renowned Attorney Spencer, coughed lightly, and stammered, "He... is my... boyfriend..."

If she said he was her ex-boyfriend, this Spencer would definitely insist she call her family!

Moreover, she couldn’t allow an ex-boyfriend to be here just to laugh at her; somehow, she had to drag him into her mess and make them both embarrassed!

"Attorney Spencer is your boyfriend?" Officer Spencer looked surprised at Elias Spencer.

"Yes." Summer Nolan nodded.

"Ha, it’s the first time I’ve seen a girlfriend going soliciting and her boyfriend paying the fine. You really opened my eyes." Officer Spencer looked at Renowned Attorney Spencer, surprised that he didn’t refute, and chuckled.

Wouldn’t they have to fight it out when they get home?

After leaving the station, she didn’t speak to him or thank him, feeling thoroughly mocked!

Why did she have to be so embarrassed in front of her ex-boyfriend?

"Get in." Elias Spencer walked to his car, giving two curt words.

She hesitated for a moment but got in. The rain had lessened a bit, and the windshield wipers rhythmically swayed on the glass. She stared at them, silently sighing.

He started the car and drove away.

On the way back, he drove silently, expressionless, his jaw line tense. Summer Nolan turned to look at him, feeling a chill from him.

"I hope Attorney Spencer can keep tonight’s events private..." She spoke up, not wanting the whole firm to know, or her image would be ruined.

Elias Spencer gripped the steering wheel, eyes focused ahead, still cold and ignoring her.

Summer Nolan watched him, annoyed, unsure of how to provoke him, calmly smiling and explaining:

"I just sympathize with that young man. He has to raise his siblings, his mom is severely ill, and his dad is a gambling addict with debts up to his neck. I just wanted to help him escape his plight..."

"Besides, isn’t it common for men to go to those places looking for escorts? We are all adults, right, and have needs. You understand?"

"You can solve it yourself, but I can’t, can I?"

"Considering we’ve dated, don’t let this get out!" Summer Nolan earnestly tried to persuade him.

But after a while, he didn’t make a sound, and she was getting frustrated, her patience waning, "Besides, we didn’t even sleep together! If you spread rumors, what will the firm think of me?"

After some time, he continued not to make a sound, acting as if she wasn’t even in the car.

The atmosphere felt stifling inside the car.

Summer Nolan glanced at him again, gritted her teeth, unwilling to cajole him further, let him be!

If he wanted to spread rumors, let him!!

Elias Spencer dropped her off outside her apartment and drove away, from start to finish, without saying a word, his demeanor ice-cold.

The next morning.

Summer Nolan was so worsened by her cold that she struggled to get out of bed, so she was an hour late to Summit.

As she walked into the meeting room, Elias Spencer glanced up at her, then coldly lowered his gaze, continuing to review the contract in his hands.

"You don’t need to look at me like that; I’ll make it up by working extra hours." She said hoarsely as she sat down opposite, enduring her dizzy head, and started working on the documents.

After enduring for more than two hours, supporting her head with one hand, her hand went weak, and her head suddenly fell onto the conference table, eyes closed, fainted.

Elias Spencer looked up at the woman across, frowned, and called her name dusky and cold, "Summer Nolan?"

Seeing no reaction, he stood up and walked over, touched her forehead — it was burning hot...

Elias Spencer looked at her coldly, very unwilling to deal with her, but still picked her up and walked out of the meeting room. The employees outside looked at them, all faces full of surprise.

Many female colleagues swooned, wishing it was them in Attorney Spencer’s arms!

After sending her to the hospital, the doctor administered the fever-reducing medication, and Elias Spencer called her mother, explained the situation, and told her the room number, then returned to Summit.

He didn’t want to wait for her mother, avoiding misunderstandings.

The fever kept Summer Nolan unconscious for three or four days before waking, opening her eyes to see her mom sitting on the sofa, watching TV and eating fruit.

She scanned the room and asked her, "Who brought me to the hospital?"

"Your colleague, he’s quite kind-hearted. Once you’re better, you should show your gratitude." Mrs. Nolan said.

Summer Nolan remembered fainting in the conference room; who else but Elias Spencer? She quickly asked, "How long have I been asleep?"

"Today is the fourth day. By the way, what’s your relationship with Elias Spencer? You’ve been cursing him as a bastard dog while unconscious!" Mrs. Nolan asked interrogatively.

Her phone didn’t save Elias Spencer’s number, so Mrs. Nolan didn’t know that both calls were from him.

Summer Nolan blinked, surprised she had cursed him?

"You know he’s my competitor. Isn’t it normal for me to curse him? What’s there to be surprised about?"

She lifted the blanket and got out of bed; now, aside from lacking physical strength, she wasn’t still dizzy.

Her throat didn’t hurt as much anymore.

Having not worked for four days, would he say she wasn’t earning her pay?

"Mom, can you process my discharge?"

"Your cold isn’t fully healed, what discharge? Stay here and rest properly." Mrs. Nolan said, bringing her a cup of warm water, still worried about her health.

"Really, there’s nothing wrong. You should go." She took the cup and drank over half in one go.

Unable to dissuade her daughter, Mrs. Nolan went to complete discharge procedures, while Summer Nolan visited the bathroom and, stepping out, heard a woman angrily shout her name:

"Summer Nolan!"

She turned to look, surprisingly finding it to be Mrs. Vaughn.

Seeing her in a wheelchair, with her right arm and leg in casts, her seductive face swollen as a pig’s head.

Couldn’t help but laugh.

Who beat her up so badly?

She walked out, her arms crossed, looked down at her asking, "Mrs. Vaughn, did you need something?"

"What’s your relationship with Elias Spencer?" Mrs. Vaughn asked angrily.

Summer Nolan looked at her puzzled, wondering why this woman suddenly asked that?

"We’re just colleagues, why?"

"Hmph, if just colleagues, would he come by specifically to warn me not to touch you and beat me up like this?!" She tightly clenched her hand, angrily retorted.
