Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Embarking on the Journey (3) Chapter 173: Chapter 173: Embarking on the Journey (3) Gavin Campbell was surprised. Was this considered hospitality?

Caroline Ruiz, on the other hand, was more accepting of the situation. She thought to herself, this is indeed the Village Chief’s hospitality. Even in a city, if it wasn’t a holiday, a dinner table wouldn’t have chicken, duck, fish, and meat all at once – at most, there would be one or two types of dishes. It was enough to eat.

So, this was certainly considered hospitality.

Caroline drank several bowls of soup and had two bowls of rice. It was strange that although these dishes didn’t look particularly appealing, she didn’t feel disgusted upon eating them. She hadn’t even eaten anything sour today.

After eating so much, she didn’t feel morning sickness either.

For a moment, Gavin couldn’t understand Caroline. He thought that, in this environment, he should adapt more quickly than her just as a matter of course. But the result was Caroline adapting much better than him.

Feeling somewhat embarrassed, he forced himself to drink another bowl of soup. He sincerely felt that the soup had a strange taste, yet Caroline didn’t seem to mind it and drank three bowls.

“Miss nurse, have you finished eating?” The Village Chief cautiously asked Caroline.

“Yes, I’ve finished eating. Thank you for your hospitality, Village Chief,” Caroline thanked him. Gavin followed suit and expressed his sincere gratitude.

“As long as you’ve eaten well. I’ll come over later to clean up, let me take you to your dormitory now.” The Village Chief said nervously. The medical conditions in their village were really poor, not just the medical environment, but everything was lacking.

So when they heard that a doctor and nurse from the city were coming to the countryside, the Village Chief immediately had his house cleaned and prepared, vacating two rooms for the visiting doctor and nurse to stay in.

Even then, upon seeing the living accommodations, Gavin couldn’t help but frown. If not for witnessing it firsthand, he couldn’t have imagined that there would be a place so backward and with such poor conditions within the same province.

Caroline seemed more at ease. Because she had followed national news with her father since childhood, she knew that conditions weren’t equally good for everyone in the same country. This was why her parents would donate some money every year. Although they didn’t give much, small contributions accumulated and could make a difference for those who needed help.

Ladies first, it seemed to be a universal rule. The Village Chief let Caroline choose her room first. She pushed open the door on the left and saw a bed inside. She could tell that it was a new bed bought from outside along with other new things. Caroline turned around and thanked them again.

Apart from thanking them, she didn’t know what else to say.

It must have taken several days for the Village Chief to prepare all of these things, as Gratan Town was quite a distance from the nearest town.

Caroline was genuinely grateful. The Village Chief, considering her fatigue from the journey, advised her to rest early and then accompanied Gavin to the room next door. Afterward, he settled the bus driver as well. After a while, the Village Chief personally brought hot water for them, accompanied by his wife.

In March, the weather wasn’t too hot or cold. However, the temperature could get quite chilly in Gratan Town during early spring mornings and evenings. Given its unique geographical location, the weather here was even colder than outside. It would be impossible to sleep without soaking your feet in hot water on such a night.

“Miss, would you like me to help you with a hot water bottle for the night? This was my daughter’s, and if you don’t mind, I can bring it over for you,” the Village Chief’s wife offered, clearly fond of the fair-skinned Caroline.
