Seven Sins System Chapter 452. Just A Trophy

Turning my attention back to my team, I no longer complained or reprimanded myself for any reason. I stopped paying attention to my mood.

The source of this bitterness, I assumed, was disappointment. Perhaps there was a part of me that had hoped Puriel would understand me after we were trapped together in that cell for the past few days.

Maybe it was the thread of fate that bound us.

Or perhaps, deep down, I longed to return to the past, to the simpler days when she was my friend—no, my pet, more precisely. Initially, that’s why the young me had approached her and asked her to play.

I watched my team train but my thoughts kept circling back to Puriel.

Was it my pride that made her rejection sting so much?

There was a small part of me, a foolish hope, that believed I had a chance to win her over, to make her mine.

The idea of having a goddess, especially the goddess of chastity, as part of my harem was an interesting one.

It would be a victory like no other, a trophy.

But was that all it was? Just a trophy?

If that were true, why did her words manage to ruin my mood so thoroughly?

Why did her disdain cut so deep?

I knew the answers, of course. Deep inside, I understood the turmoil. I knew why I felt this way, but I tried to deny it.

A devil shouldn’t fall in love, especially not with a goddess. It was a rule, an unwritten law that maintained the balance between dark and light.

It was a dead end, and I had known that from the start. But why couldn’t I let go?

I sighed.

Darren’s elven agility was impressive.

Ion was a blur as he darted in and out of the holographic monsters’ reach.

Barry used his brute strength to overwhelm his opponents.

They were performing admirably, but my mind was elsewhere.

‘This is stupid…’ I thought, pressing my temples and massaging them a bit, hoping it would make me feel better. Of course, I knew it was a futile effort.

“Doc! Behind you!”

Barry’s panicked voice yanked me back to reality.

One of the five-meter tall stone golem holograms that my team was fighting had somehow gotten behind me and was raising its massive hand, ready to squash me like a bug.

The fact that I hadn’t noticed it until Barry’s shout showed just how distracted I was.

Despite the danger, I remained calm. This hologram was nothing more than a child’s toy to me.

The golem’s hand came crashing down, but with deft footwork, I simply dodged out of the way.

-       BAM!

The golem’s hand slammed into the ground, sending a gust of wind rushing past me, but I didn’t flinch or blink.

My expression remained bored and flat.

“Focus, Azrael,” I muttered to myself, annoyed at my own lapse in attention.

I couldn’t afford to be distracted all the time like a broken-hearted man.

I wasn’t a man!

I was a devil!

A devil should never have a broken heart!

We even didn’t have a heart!

I retreated quickly, my gaze never leaving the hologram monster.

My footwork was precise and effortless. It was time to reclaim my role as the team mentor.

Given my cover as their healer, attacking wasn't an option; I had to guide them strategically.

“Remember what I told you about facing huge monsters?” I called out. “Destroy its balance first!”

Claire nodded sharply. She adjusted her stance, her eyes locking onto the golem’s legs.

“Right, team! Focus on its joints! Barry, go for the knees!”

Barry lunged forward, his spear aimed at the golem’s massive knee joint.

“On it, Claire!” he shouted, thrusting his weapon with precision.

Darren had already taken his position at the rear. His bow was drawn, the arrow aimed at the golem’s other knee.

“I’ve got the left one,” he said, his voice calm and steady.

Ion, with his dual daggers, darted in and out of the golem’s range, looking for an opening.

“I’ll weaken the joints,” he said, his fox-like agility making him a blur of motion.

Evie stood at a distance, her hands crackling with elemental magic. “I’ll slow it down,” she declared, launching a blast of ice magic at the golem’s feet, hoping to freeze them and hinder its movements.

I watched as they executed their plan. They were second-semester students, but they moved with the precision of seasoned warriors.

Well, not matched with my warriors, but for mortals? They were good enough.

The golem staggered, its balance compromised by the coordinated assault. That monster was on its knees.

Barry’s spear struck true, piercing the knee joint with a satisfying crunch.

Darren’s arrow followed suit, hitting the other knee and causing the golem to wobble.

Ion’s daggers flashed as he slashed at the joints, weakening them further.

Evie’s ice magic took effect, the golem’s movements slowing as its feet began to freeze to the ground.

“Excellent work!” I shouted. “Keep it up! Don’t let it recover!”

They continued their assault. The golem teetered, its massive form swaying as it struggled to stay upright.

“Now, go for the final blow!” I commanded.

Claire seized the moment, her sword flashing as she leaped at the golem’s torso. With a powerful strike, she drove her blade into the golem’s chest, the force of the blow sending cracks spidering through its stone body.
