Seven Sins System Chapter 453. Distracted

With a deafening crash, the golem fell, its massive body shattering into a million pieces.

The team stood victorious, their breaths heavy but their spirits high.

I allowed myself a moment of satisfaction.

“Great job, everyone,” I said, my voice filled with pride. “You executed that perfectly.”

The team members exchanged grins and high-fives.

Claire sheathed her sword, her face flushed with exertion but lit with a satisfied smile. “Thanks, Doc,” she said, her eyes meeting mine. “Your guidance made all the difference.”

I nodded at the team. "You all did great, but there's always room for improvement. Barry, your spear thrusts were on point, but remember to keep your footwork light. You need to be ready to move at a moment's notice."

Barry gave me a thumbs up, his usual grin back in place. "Got it, Doc. I'll work on that."

"Darren, your aim was excellent, as always. Just keep an eye on your surroundings. You need to be aware of more than just your target," I continued.

Darren nodded, his expression serious. "Understood, Doc. I'll make sure to stay more aware."

"Ion, your agility is a huge asset. Use it to your advantage, but don’t get too close unless you’re sure it’s safe," I advised.

Ion flicked his ears in acknowledgment. "I'll be more cautious, Doc."

"Evie, your ice magic was crucial in slowing the golem down. Keep experimenting with different elements to see what works best in different scenarios," I suggested.

Evie smiled. "I'll keep that in mind."

"Claire, you did a fantastic job leading the team. Just make sure to communicate clearly. Your team relies on your instructions," I finished.

Claire sheathed her sword, nodding confidently. "Will do. Thanks for the feedback."

"Alright, everyone. Continue with the training," I said, stepping back to let them continue their exercises.

Before they resumed their drills, Evie approached me, a thoughtful look on her face. "Can we talk for a moment?" she asked.

I nodded, curious about what she had to say. "Sure. Let's go over to the bench."

We walked over to the side bench, away from the noise and activity of the training ground.

Once we sat down, I turned to her, noticing the concern in her eyes. "What is it, Evie?" I asked, keeping my tone casual.

She took a deep breath, clearly trying to gather her thoughts. "I noticed you've been distracted today. Is everything okay? Is it because of Puriel and what happened this morning?"

I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck. Evie was perceptive, always had been. "You’re right. I’ve been a bit distracted. Our disagreement… It's bugging me."

Evie nodded slowly, her eyes full of understanding. "I figured as much. You seem... different today. Not your usual self."

I chuckled dryly, shaking my head. "Yeah, it's been a tough day. Puriel and I have a complicated history, and sometimes it just... gets to me."

Evie leaned forward, her expression earnest. "If you need to talk about it, I'm here. I’m your woman. We look out for each other."

I smiled, appreciating her offer. " It's not that I don't want to talk about it. It's just... hard to explain. There are a lot of unresolved feelings and issues between us. Sometimes it feels like we're from completely different planets,” I stated. “Or realms,” I continued in a sarcastic tone since we were indeed from different realms.

She reached out and placed a hand on my arm, a gesture of comfort. "I get it. Relationships are complicated, especially when there's so much history involved. But remember, we're here for you. You're not alone."

I nodded, feeling a bit of the weight lift from my shoulders. "I appreciate that. Really, I do. It helps to know I have support." To be honest, I was a bit weird for me to say it since I never needed something like this in the past.

She smiled warmly. "Always. I will get back to training. We have a lot of work to do if we're going to be the best."

We stood up and rejoined the others.

The rest of the session passed in a blur of drills and instructions, the familiar rhythm of training providing a much-needed distraction from my tangled thoughts.

But I had to admit, the training managed to take my thought of Puriel although we were at the same place.

The session came to a close, I gathered the team together.

"Good work today, everyone. Remember what we went over. Keep practicing, and we'll keep improving."

They all nodded, their expressions determined. "Yes, Doc!" they chorused.

We finished with a few more exercises, and then it was time to wrap up.

The team began to pack up their gear, chatting and joking with each other.

I also packed up my gear as the team dispersed. While most of them headed to the academy shower room to clean up and change, I preferred the privacy of my own dorm. The training hadn’t made me sweat at all.

Julia approached me. She sat down beside me and handed me a bottle of water without saying a word.

I took it with a smile, immediately unscrewing the cap and taking a long drink.

“It seems like she’s bothering you more than what you told us this afternoon,” Julia said matter-of-factly, referring to Puriel.

I lowered the bottle and scoffed, a humorless laugh escaping my lips. “I have to admit, yes. And I feel pathetic about it.”

Julia raised an eyebrow, her expression gentle but probing. “It’s not pathetic to have feelings, you know. Even devils aren’t immune to that.”

I sighed, looking down at the water bottle in my hands. “It’s just... complicated. There’s a lot of history between us, and it’s hard to separate the past from the present. But it’s just hard to shake off these stupid feelings. They linger, like shadows.”

Julia gave me a comforting smile. Her gaze was on me, observing me. “It’s normal. You went through a lot together. Just remember, you’re not defined by your past. You can move forward.”
