Sharing Dreams with My Bestie’s Cousin
Chapter 207 - 207 Not dead
Chapter 207: Not dead Chapter 207: Not dead Shang Hexing said nothing.
He silently opened the insulated box and scooped up a bowl of porridge to feed Wen Zhi, “It’s not hot, the temperature is just right.”
Wen Zhi pursed her lips and refused to open her mouth.
After a few seconds of standoff, Wen Zhi still stubbornly resisted, and Shang Hexing sighed lightly and explained, “I was worried about you, so I had no appetite. Now that you’re awake, do you want me to keep worrying?”
Wen Zhi immediately shook her head.
Shang Hexing extended his hand holding the spoon forward, “You eat, then I’ll eat.”
Wen Zhi hesitated for two seconds but then obediently opened her mouth.
It was red date and pumpkin porridge, thick but not overly sweet and very nutritious.
Wen Zhi obediently finished the entire bowl of porridge, and after seeing the bottom, Shang Hexing asked if she wanted another half bowl, to which she shook her head, “I can’t eat anymore, you eat.”
Shang Hexing glanced at her.
Wen Zhi immediately flashed a smile for him to see.
The meaning of her smile was that she was feeling much better and didn’t want him to worry.
The corners of Shang Hexing’s lips lifted in a very slight curve, and then under Wen Zhi’s gaze, he ladled himself a bowl of porridge.
After finishing, Wen Zhi urged him, “Have another bowl.”
Shang Hexing said, “There’s none left.”
“How can that be, I clearly saw there was more,” Wen Zhi said as she tried to lean over to check the insulated box for any remaining porridge.
As she leaned over, Shang Hexing put away the insulated box, “Rest a little longer, by six o’clock, I’ll have Chen Jinhai deliver another one…”
Wen Zhi, “Porridge?”
Shang Hexing asked, “Don’t feel like having porridge?”
Wen Zhi bent her knees, resting her elbows on them, and spoke languidly, “I know this is nutritious porridge, but I only suffered some superficial injuries, I should… not need to be on a special diet, right?”
Wen Zhi didn’t know how animated her expression was as she said this. Shang Hexing saw it all and his smile deepened a bit, as he picked up the insulated box, “You don’t need to be on a special diet; I’ll have your favorite food sent over later.”
Wen Zhi wanted to smile.
When she saw Shang Hexing smiling too, knowing he was laughing at her, she immediately pressed her lips back together and with a barely convincing tone said, “Alright then.”
After Shang Hexing left, Wen Zhi also lay down to sleep a little longer.
She dozed off for about ten minutes but, due to the pain in her hand, couldn’t fall asleep and had to get up and put on her shoes to go out.
Chen Jinhai was right outside the door. When Mr. Shang left, he instructed Chen to listen for any noise from inside and to come to the door if necessary to stand guard.
Chen Jinhai, who took his responsibilities seriously, feared any accidents, so he kept watch outside the door the entire time.
Seeing the door open now, Chen Jinhai immediately stepped forward to ask, “Does Miss Wen need anything?”
Wen Zhi was startled by the sudden appearance of Chen Jinhai, “Chen Zhu, what are you doing here?”
Chen Jinhai spoke the truth, “Mr. Shang has something that will keep him away for two hours, Miss Wen, you can give any instructions directly to me.”
“It’s nothing, I just couldn’t sleep and came out for a walk.” She didn’t know that Shang Hexing had left.
Chen Jinhai was very attentive, “Would you like some water, Miss Wen?”
Wen Zhi shook her head.
Chen Jinhai, “Would you like some fruit?”
Wen Zhi was about to shake her head again when she caught a glimpse from the corner of her eye, not just various fruits on the table, but also several jars of cookies with different flavors. Besides that, there were also candies, all in glass jars, and the candies’ packaging was in very fresh colors, looking very pretty.
Wen Zhi walked over and picked up a jar of light blue candies.
Chen Jinhai saw the delight in Wen Zhi’s eyes and immediately said, “All of these were prepared by Mr. Shang. He knew you liked these.”
Wen Zhi picked up a jar of light green candies, her face undisguised with joy, “They look so pretty.”
Seeing Wen Zhi happy, Chen Jinhai also smiled.
At that moment, Wen Zhi suddenly turned her head and asked, “Where did he go?”
Chen Jinhai’s smile froze for two seconds, “Mr. Shang, he…”
Wen Zhi puzzled, “What’s wrong with him?”
Fearful something might give him away, fortunately, Chen Jinhai responded quickly, “It’s like this: Mr. Shang today, in order to get your wounds treated as soon as possible, pulled some strings. Not long ago, Mr. Shang arranged a dinner to thank that friend for the help.”
So that was it.
One indeed needed to repay a debt of gratitude.
Moreover, Shang Hexing reaching his current position without easily exploiting any relationships, but this time it was for her…
Wen Zhi didn’t ask any further and sat down to eat cookies.
Off to the side, Chen Jinhai nervously raised his hand to wipe his forehead and exhaled a sigh of relief.
…
Shang Hexing’s leaving had nothing to do with arranging a dinner to thank Qin Yao, he had gone to another hospital.
Chong Wanyin wasn’t dead.
“There’s no brain death, but she’s currently in a deep coma. The doctor said there’s a ninety percent chance she’ll become a vegetable, and she may not live past three months because her injuries are very serious, and several internal organs have sustained severe damage,” said Gu Rang.
He was standing outside the ICU, with Shang Hexing beside him.
After Gu Rang finished speaking, he turned his head to look at Shang Hexing beside him and asked, “You must have listened to that recording Zhan Feng gave you, right?”
Shang Hexing’s face was expressionless, “Mhm.”
Actually, he had been investigating all these years and had already found the results.
Gu Rang’s expression darkened, “It’s a pity, the person who most deserved to die didn’t.”
After speaking, Gu Rang turned around to leave.
Shang Hexing called out to him, “Wait.”
Gu Rang stopped but didn’t turn back.
Shang Hexing walked over to Gu Rang and asked, “Could I take a look at my uncle’s body?”
Gu Rang outright refused with a cold tone, “Let’s wait until Wen Zhi arrives.”
Shang Hexing said, “I haven’t figured out how to tell her yet.”
The blow was too great; Wen Zhi might not be able to bear it.
Additionally, Shang Hexing was more worried that Wen Zhi would think that if it weren’t for her insistence on kidnapping Chong Wanyin, her father wouldn’t have died, and she would blame herself for everything.
Just thinking about this scenario made Shang Hexing feel even more dejected.
How could Gu Rang not understand Shang Hexing’s concerns, for they were also the concerns of everyone else.
After a long moment of consideration he said, “Then don’t tell her. If one day she asks about President Mu, just say that President Mu is living well with Wen Yiwan at the Wen Family’s home. Wen Zhi doesn’t like Wen Yiwan, so hearing this she will not inquire further. And also…”
Gu Rang didn’t finish speaking.
He shifted slightly, his tone very serious, “The matter of Chong Wanyin’s serious injury, let’s also keep that from her and just say that Chong Wanyin has already returned to Bai City.”
“Alright.”
With all that instructed by Gu Rang, Shang Hexing had nothing more to say.
But there was one thing…
Shang Hexing still asked, “My uncle’s body, where do you plan to send it?”
Gu Rang replied, “It will be cremated first.”
“No,” Shang Hexing immediately objected, his face looking grim, “no one can be sure how long we can keep this a secret. When Wen Zhi finds out the truth, finds out we conspired to deceive her, and didn’t allow her to see her father for the last time, whom should she hate?”
Gu Rang understood the implication of Shang Hexing’s words, “So you mean, we should freeze President Mu’s body?”
Shang Hexing didn’t speak.
Gu Rang’s expression turned complex, “According to President Mu’s last wishes, he hoped we would bury him next to Mrs. Mu’s grave, and furthermore… it’s proper for the deceased to be laid to rest as soon as possible.”
Shang Hexing’s tone softened slightly, “My uncle’s last wishes? Does that mean my uncle already made arrangements with you before?”
