She Holds the World After Being Reborn
Chapter 569 - 568: This Ill-Fated Romance Comes to an End
CHAPTER 569: CHAPTER 568: THIS ILL-FATED ROMANCE COMES TO AN END
Nightfall had finally descended.
On the open ground in front of Dawei’s camp, a conical heap of miscellaneous weeds and timbers was arranged.
Atop the cone lay two corpses.
One was Yan Jing, another was Cong Ge.
Yan Wanqing expressionlessly took a torch from a soldier’s hand, stepped forward slowly, and the firelight cast her countenance as bewitching as a demon.
Uncle, Cong Ge, it was I who harmed you. After today, I will abandon all mercy and leave no room for it, no longer believing in any love or affection in this world!
She resolutely threw the torch onto the kindling drenched in oil, and flames burst forth instantly before her.
Xiao Pingfeng, fearing she might be burnt by the fire, pulled her into his embrace.
Yan Wanqing did not dodge.
His heart leaped with joy, thinking that after this event, she had finally become sensible.
Willing to stay by his side.
Xiao Pingfeng finally let out a sigh of relief.
The great fire burned until the latter half of the night before it finally extinguished.
Yan Wanqing stood waiting until the latter half of the night; she personally collected the ashes of the two, and then was persuaded by Xiao Pingfeng to go back to sleep.
Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, Xiao Pingfeng felt as if he were dreaming.
Just in the morning, she was still repelling him, but now she was willingly lying in his arms.
Xiao Pingfeng couldn’t help but gaze at her until dawn, his longing unfulfilled.
Her curled lashes fluttered slightly, Xiao Pingfeng’s eyes brightened. "Wanwan, you’re awake?"
The person on the bed opened her eyes, her gaze slightly vacant but then it turned stern and icy-cold as she turned to look at Xiao Pingfeng.
Strange... indifferent... murderous...
This pair of peach blossom eyes was filled with all the frost in the world, but devoid of the tenderness and sentimentality Xiao Pingfeng was familiar with.
"Wan..."
He had barely uttered a word when he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He looked down to see a pair of fair hands gripping a sharp hairpin—this hairpin was currently halfway into his chest!
She exerted a lot of force; the pin had sunk deep into his flesh, enough to prove her intent to kill!
His Wanwan really wanted him dead.
"Disgusting man," she spat out a few words, and the next second, she kicked him directly off the bed without a trace of sentiment.
Xiao Pingfeng’s back hit a table and let out a loud crash, he spat out blood before coming to a stop.
The person on the bed got dressed quickly and nimbly, then rolled off the bed and without a word, made her way towards Xiao Pingfeng, her eyes brimming with murderous intent.
"Wanwan..." Xiao Pingfeng looked up at her. "To die by your hand is also an honor in this life."
She cocked her head and looked down upon him. "You have the gall to die by her hand?"
Xiao Pingfeng frowned slightly, about to speak, but saw her reach out abruptly and without a word, pull the hairpin from his chest, causing blood to gush forth, nearly making him faint.
She looked disgusted as she wiped the hairpin on his pure white undergarment before carelessly making a bun with it.
"I won’t kill you, Xiao Pingfeng, you’re not fit to be a man." Su Bai took two brocade boxes from a nearby cabinet, tore the bedsheets into a makeshift knapsack to carry on her back, and before she left, she couldn’t resist and delivered another kick directly to his abdomen.
Knocking him out cold.
As she left, she ran into soldiers about to enter. She scowled, "What do you want?"
"What happened in there? It was quite the commotion," the soldiers wanted to enter.
Su Bai blocked them. "Your majesty just likes it loud, move aside, I’m off to cook something for him in the kitchen, we’ll continue afterwards."
Her blunt words made the soldiers blush and move aside.
Su Bai snorted, rolling her eyes.
Such words could only confuse them for a moment; the urgent task was to leave the camp as soon as possible.
Su Bai deftly knocked a soldier unconscious, took his clothes and sidearm, and then seized a horse to sprint straight into the depths of the jungle.
Within the jungle, a mountain breeze was blowing gently.
Su Bai laughed loudly, "So spineless, are you hiding somewhere secretly crying?"
There was no response.
Su Bai called out again, "Yan Wanqing, I know you’re here, why are you playing dead?"
This time, Yan Wanqing was shocked.
Last night, she had been forcibly dragged into the Inner Sea, and had seen Su Bai looking like a heartless ghost, slept in Xiao Pingfeng’s arms all night, and she was so angry that she hadn’t rested at all.
Then, early in the morning just as she was finally getting sleepy, she saw Su Bai stab a hairpin into Xiao Pingfeng’s chest and even kicked him unconscious.
These were actions she could never do herself.
She was somewhat astonished.
"How did you know I was here?"
"Just like I can feel you in the Inner Sea, you must surely be able to feel me too," Su Bai galloped on, turning around to see the sound of hooves and the noise of people already coming from behind.
She curved her lips into a smile, "These people have finally followed the scent here." Without another word, she dismounted and slapped the horse’s rump hard, sending the animal crazily running into the depths of the jungle, while she herself leaped onto the top of an ancient tree, silently watching the cavalry beneath her.
Continuing with telepathic communication.
"I know you must have as many questions as I do right now, but don’t worry, Yan Wanqing, everything will be clear once we see that dog, Song Huaxu."
Yan Wanqing shook her head, "Song Huaxu placed a restriction in our bodies, different from the Poisonous Insect Poison, it’s something even higher ranked, not easily removed."
Su Bai was unconcerned, "There must be a place to remove it."
"Are you talking about Penglai?" Yan Wanqing furrowed her brows, "Speaking of Penglai, I’m reminded of someone from the past."
Ji Yuntai.
Su Bai was unaware of this past, her shoulders burdened with a heavy pack, "Then we’ll go to Penglai."
"But before that, we need to go somewhere first," Su Bai squinted her eyes, gazing into the distance.
Yan Wanqing felt a sudden tightness in her heart, "Where?"
"I want to see your son," Su Bai realized her phrasing was off, "No, our son."
The events of those years, she could only vaguely glimpse through Yan Wanqing’s memories, some fragments, but when she saw those scenes, it was as if she had experienced them herself, pain piercing her heart.
Although she didn’t know why she was sharing a body with Yan Wanqing, Su Bai felt that she was an independent personality, and needless to say, so was Yan Wanqing.
Su Bai felt she was a living person.
The light of dawn filtering through the jungle, the rising sun in the east, Su Bai headed straight for the border, while Yan Wanqing fell into a deep sleep.
She trusted Su Bai.
Without reason.
Perhaps it was because they shared a body, or maybe because they could understand each other’s hearts.
She was too tired.
This love, which had fizzled out without illness, had drained all her hopes.
It should disperse with the morning breeze in the wind.
Within the Dawei Camp,
Xiao Pingfeng’s face was pale, he smashed the medicine bowl in front of him, "Chase after them!"
"I want them alive or dead, but I must see the body!"
The corners of his eyes were almost red with tears.
No one could betray him, no one!
Neither could she!
He must find out the meaning behind the last words she said when she left!
